Re: FA Cup Final tactics
Stoke City
- Spoiler:
- 3-5-2
Asmir Begovic
Robert Huth - Ricardo Carvalho - Ryan Shawcross
Alan Hutton ----------------------------------- Maynor Figueroa
Jonjo Shelvey - Abou Diaby
Michu
Jermain Defoe - Peter Crouch
Subs: Thomas Sorensen, Matthew Upson, Clarence Seedorf, Wilson Palacios, Michael Kightly, Ashley Young, Kevin Mirallas
Cup final day, after achieving our goal of avoiding relegation, now it's time to put all our efforts into taking home the FA Cup. I've gone a little different in formation to catch Swansea out, I want us to keep the ball in the middle of the park, control the tempo and create chances with a good passing game. Begovic, command your area and watch for long shots. Carvalho/Huth/Shawcross, there to keep Swansea at bay whether they play 1 or 2 strikers, stay in communication throughout. Hutton/Figueroa, drop into a back 5 without the ball, into a midfield 5 with the ball. Get crosses in when forward. Shelvey/Diaby, both box to box, alternate going forward, keep the ball rather than waste it. Get shots in if space opens. Michu, AM role but drop back into midfield if under pressure, be the catalyst and support the strikers whenever you can. Defoe/Crouch, reignite your partnership for Portsmouth, create chances for each other and if fate is on our side, you'll be the goalscoring heroes today.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Palacios on, Crouch off. Extra body in midfield, sit back and absorb pressure before counter attacking.
If drawing: Palacios, Young and Mirallas on, Shelvey, Michu and Crouch off. Same formation but sturdier in midfield and more pace upfront.
If losing: Young and Mirallas on, Carvalho and Diaby off. Go to a 4-1-3-2, push forward and go for goals. If still losing late on, Huth and Shawcross get forward too.
