Biggest upset you got right.
Good morning
All of us usually have a fancy before a big fight, but what was your biggest call? Which underdog did you call right?
Did anyone predict and take the 24/1 Holyfield to beat Tyson for instance?
Mine , I predicted Margarito v Cotto 1 about right, Mosley over De La Hoya back in the millennium year, I predicted McLellan would knock Benn out in the first round (I was almost right)
Worst, Trinidad to knock Winky senseless, Kostya to hammer Hatton inside 4 and shamefully thought Chavez would catch up with Whitaker.
What's your best call
Cheers Rodders

Its probs my best one as I had £5 on each of 10, 11 and 12 round stoppage for Marg at 33/1.
I also had a couple of quid on Froch 12 round stoppage against Taylor.

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
Froch vs Bute, in the aftermath it has been largely forgotten that it was a real 50/50 before the fight, I put a few quid on Froch by KO at 7/1.
Worst, well, I had Audley to beat Haye, and I also had Audley to beat Price.
Woopsie.

I had money on the relatively light puncher Alexander to KO the iron chinned Urango.

That's a hell of a call, Alexander hasn't thrown a punch that good since and showed nothing to suggest he was capable of that before hand. That should have been mentioned on the greatest uppercut thread really.

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
There must have been something in the air for Margarito-Cotto I, because that's one upset that I got right beforehand, too.
I told all of my mates at school that Barrera would beat Hamed and got a shed load of abuse for it. Needless to say, I rubbed their face in it somewhat afterwards!

Yeah well Gordy had Lewis to beat Tyson, suspect this thread will have some way to run before anyone can top that particular beauty.

Lewis V Ruddock. I think Razor was the bookies favourite but I picked Lennox to KO him.
It was just a guess, I will confess that now.
I also picked Johnson to beat Jeffries.

Of course that counts, Rodders.
I picked Zak Dingle to beat Ned Glover in their fist fight, but that didn't turn out how I expected.

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
I picked Lewis to beat Mason - that was a pick 'em at the time if I remember.
I went for Benn over McClellan although I thought it would end early. I actually missed a friend's wedding to watch it.
I also picked Trinidad over De La Hoya and had great fun collecting my winnings from my mate, dodgy call by the judges or not.
However, such predictions are few and far between - some of my howlers were Pavlik disposing of Hopkins, Miranda punching out Bute, Hatton having a chance against Floyd and bothering to stay up to watch Tyson-Bruno 2 with the stupid assumption that Big Frank could defend his title in style. Oops...

Froch vs Bute - I predicted a Froch KO late on. I only based that on Butes "questionable chin".
Never put money on it though.
Attending the fight was good enough.

That's dedication! Did you actually say "sorry I can't make your special day, there is a rather tasty boxing match I would rather watch!"
I'm pretty rubbish at predictions other than the obvious ones. I did predict Katsidas to stop Mitchell early and put money on it but not sure how much of an underdog he was?

I was into boxing at the time. Thought Urango was shopworn and would be stopped but not KO'd. Think I got very good odds, it's somewhere on the old 606

Although I said Marquez would beat Pacquiao in the third fight and many people agree he did. Don't think that one counts though.

I'm not sure what the odds were for any of these fights or how big an upset they were but i went for Trinidad over de la Hoya, Calzaghe over Lacy & Margarito over Cotto 1st fight.

I called the Prescott win over Khan, took Prescott to win by KO in rounds 1-3 @ 12-1 with £15 smackers on it.
Was absolutely over the moon watching Khan on his PPV debut doing the chicken dance.
Other than that, I called the McCloskey upset when he was beat by Khan in the mid rounds

Can you shed any light on whether there were a vast amount of people in Belfast substantially better off after predicting Fury would stop him in the 5th(?)

I was literally the only person bar maybe BoxingFan88 who not only backed Froch to beat Bute, but for him to KO him too. Nobody seemed able to see past Bute's undefeated record, 8/1 at the bookies, made a tidy sum.

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
It did alright mate. Too be honest everyone in the bookies had money on Prescott.
In the build up on Sky they spoke about Prescotts KO record, and what with bambi legs being knocked over by blown up featherweights, it didn't take a genius to tell how it was going to go.

I told my mate to not put a £5 bet on Prescott 1st round KO, he would have got it at 66/1.
He didn't know much about boxing but I advised that Prescot's record was padded with a load of cr@p Colombian boxers and that Khan would spank him everywhere
He wasn't very happy with me

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
I called Peterson to beat Khan and made a beautiful £650 @ 13/1.
Made just over £100 on Moseley to beat Margarito as well.
Also called Prescott to KO Khan and Burns to KO Mitchell unfortunately on the latter I had £10 at 50/1 after round 6.
Had my fair share of howlers as well though, Haye to beat Wlad, Hatton to beat Pacquiao & Mayweather and Mitchell to beat Katsidis

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
I find boxing one of the few sports where you have a decent chance to beat the bookies. In the big fights the price them so its not really worth a bet but in domestic fights i honestly think they either dont pay too much attnetion as they dont stand to lose much or they just arent that knowledageble
Iv made money on quite a few of the Prizefighter series: Made a good few quid when Gaving Rees won it a couple of years ago (had him at about 5/2)
Some of the best winners (against the odds) i can think of from recent years were....
Rogan to beat Skelton at about 5/1
Haye KO Maccrinelli 1-3 (then subsequently backed Mac to get KO'ed in several fights which where he duly obliged)
Groves to beat DeGale on points 4/1
Ryan Rhodes to beat Jamie Moore (cant remember the price)
Ricky Burns - had him to win against Martinez which was big (about 6/1 i think)
Not an upset but i made a fortune on Wlad UD agaisnt Haye. I had £200 at 7/2.... everyone in the bookies (none of whom were real boxing fans) were lumping on Haye and i just couldnt understand it!
Iv got some very wrong as well... notable mentions.....
De la Hoya and Ricky both to beat Pacquio - just thought they would be too big and strong
I had Ordlanier Solis to beat Vitali... he hurt his knee in the first.
BHOP has cost me loads over the years, iv bet against him so many times and been shown up i refuse to bet on him now!
Paul Williams to UD Martinez when he got starched in the 2nd
Kev Mitchell to beat Burns

I had Wlad at 7/2 as well mate. My bro hasn't a notiion about boxing and rang me to ask how I thought it would go and I told him to put his dough on Wlad UD.
At 4am I had a voicemail from him and all his mates at a party, pi55ed shouting down the phone about how they were all going to buy me a pint as he told everyone what I said.
Funnily enough I am still waiting for the pint, no joke!!

Re: Biggest upset you got right.
I got Bradley/Pacquiao right - but got Bute/Froch horribly wrong, I remember doing a big post on why Bute would wipe the floor with Froch and take him out late, I was a tad wrong there!!!!!
Cotto/Margarito I got bang on - both times. I called Cotto/Mayweather to be a very close and competitive fight, most people on here laughed at me and told me Cotto would be knocked out by the 10th.
I also went with Gordy's amazing prediction of Lewis to beat Tyson, WHAT A SHOCKER!!

Ah. Sorry. I had Bradley winning on the night, to be totally honest, I was actually a bit baffled by the remarks everyone posted after about it being a robbery. I expected everyone to be ranting at HBO for there ridiculous commentary. When I rewatched it I had it dead even at a draw. Haven't watched it since, because, well it was a bit of a boring fight.
For me Manny coming alive for 30 seconds a round and doing basically nothing outside of that didn't win him rounds for me.

I agree with you, however most of the time in the 2 minutes and 30 seconds Bradley constantly missed the target, so I wasn't even scoring his 'landed' punches. He hit elbows and arms, which I don't count at all.

You really think so? I don't think there's any outrageous picks here like Douglas to beat Tyson or Holy to beat Tyson. Most people have also admitted the howlers, would seem pretty pointless to be lying on a forum.
