Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
First topic message reminder :
Hatton Confirms Primetime as UK broadcaster for
comeback fight against Senchenko
What: Hatton vs. Senchenko
When: From 7pm, 24th November 2012
Where: Manchester Arena
Watch: Exclusively on Primetime, Channel 498 on Sky, Virgin on Demand and Primetime Website (click here)
Hatton Promotions have today confirmed that Primetime will be the exclusive live UK broadcaster for Ricky Hatton’s epic comeback fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko. The pay-per-view broadcaster will broadcast the headline fight as well as the full undercard on channel 498 on Sky, Virgin on Demand and streamed live via their website www.primetimeboxing.co.uk.
When Hatton retired last year it was with a record of 45 wins and only two defeats. After his defeat of Tszyu in 2005, Hatton began to make a mark on the world boxing scene. He went on to become a world champion in two weight divisions and garnered a massive international fan base, making him one of the biggest British fighters of all time.
His defeat against Manny Pacquiao in May 2009 not only knocked Hatton off his feet, but was a massive blow to his self-esteem and identity.
The 24th November fight against Senchenko promises to lay some demons to rest and be marked as one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history. The ‘Hitman’ himself has stressed the personal importance of returning to the ring not just to have a comeback but to ‘redeem himself’ to his family and fans.
"I want British boxing to be proud of me again," Hatton professed. "The only way to convince everyone I'm back is by flattening someone on 24th November."
Since its launch in 2009 Primetime has offered viewers a host of premium boxing events to British audiences. Over the last three years the channel has been proud to show some of the world’s greatest fighters, from British champions Carl Froch and Amir Khan to international heavy hitters Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
For the Hatton vs. Senchenko fight, Primetime will also be providing the world feed as well as the pay-per-view for viewers in the UK and Ireland.
“To be offered this opportunity, to broadcast Hatton vs. Senchenko, is a huge deal for us.” said Director of programming Chris Ratcliff.
“This could be the start of a comeback tale of Hollywood proportions! We will support Ricky and his team all the way and wish all the best for him on 24th November.”
Ricky Hatton vs. Vyacheslav Senchenko will be shown live on Primetime, Channel 498 on Sky and Virgin-On-Demand, on Saturday 24th November for only £14.95. To order call 0871 200 4444 or go online to Primetime Website (click here)

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
What an earth is going on with that Hatton footage. Is Senchenko allowed to bring a stick into the ring? Did Ricky even hit it once anyway?
Although having said that, it might make the fight more interesting/competitive if Vyacheslav is allowed to fight Ricky with a stick.
He looks buff though. 'Cut' I believe is what the kids call it these days.

Sounds much better when Jack uses that term.
Joking aside, he does look in good shape, although I suppose he always did. It is what fitness is behind the physique and how he reacts to hit in the face, stick or no stick, that really counts.

Ripped is a term for skinny people with abs and nothing else, usually. Always thought Hatton looks ill.

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
Obviously looks in good shape, but so did Robin Reid last month and that didn't help him against one of the poorer SM British champs for the past few years.
But then again Hatton is only 34 and apparently started this training camp in decent shape and with good fitness, unlike years ago.
I'm hoping that the fact he started training camp in a lot better shape than he previously did, then this could act as a kind of make-weight for the fact he is a bit older.
We'll see.

Senchenko's training looks like when I hit the punchbag and run for the hills in case it hits me back.

Just watching those videos and its the best clip we've seen of Ricky in a camp since the Tzyu fight, hopefully he'll be back to his swarming best.
Nothing in those clips suggests to me that Senchenko is preparing for an opponent who will swarm him, looks like he wants to keep it at range but if Ricky slips the jab he'll be in for a long night.

His opponent is a two fight novice who has won both, his debut his opponent retired in round one and then out pointed a guy who was 0-4. I actually think he'll have a good straight right and that punch will stop the American.

Freddies opponent has 2 wins and no losses, so somebody's O has to go.
The 2 wins come against guys who haven't a win between them.
Although it shows good bottle it has to be shown for what it is, good luck to him anyway.

I don't know how Freddie has survived a proper training camp. I thought his knees were held together with pieces of string by now. He couldn't get through a 5 day test match without breaking down towards the end of his real career, and that includes stopping for sandwiches and a rest everyday.
I wonder how much roadwork he has done.

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
Probably looked for an alternative such as rowing or cycling, still using the knees but nowhere near the same severity.
Martinez on 24/7 said that he does a lot of cycling and feels its more beneficial than running.

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
There is an awful lot of blunt force trauma to the knee through impact when fast bowling, more so if the bowler is a "big unit", whereas he is only likely to be walking / skipping around the ring (and occasionally getting back up), so the knees should be ok.
I also like at this point to claim intellectual property rights to the phrase "Freddie hit for six".

You would think that he has an awesome overhand right. Marciano owed his powerful punches to his baseball days.
Sorry for making the comparison by the way.

Didn't know you were a cricket fan Union?
Our opening bowler's big toe nail goes black and falls off at the start of every season. It is common amongst pros from the force of the foot landing. Some of them cut a hole in their boots so the toes slips out instead of jarring.

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
Agreed, Don't think too many people expect much of a career from him. Few fights perhaps but nothing special.
Although he is talking about it being a serious thing and something where he wants to achieve success..whether that means titles or not im unsure.
He needs to be careful though because a couple of wins puts him right in frame for a shot at Wladamir next year
Imagine he went on to defeat one of Vitali, Wlad, Haye, Price or Fury...think it would leave many feeling stumped!!

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
I get the feeling the the BBBoC would step in if Wlads shadow even pointed in his direction - similarly with the others. However maybe he'll surprise us by making it to domestic level on virtue of his name alone
Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
I honestly reckon if he wins a couple on the spin and looks decent in doing so he will be lined up and end up fighting Audley Harrison!!
Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
In fairness, the Heavyweight division is boring with just Wladimir and Vitali dominating. Hopefully Freddie can go on to be the third man at the head of the weight class.

I may well do, the missus likes Hatton so she will want to watch it and if I've got nothing else on £15 is a damned sight cheaper than going to the boozer.

Not yet, the missus would have to shut up shop for a seriously long time before I'd consider that option.

Yeah but surely you'd have a better time in the pub, as long as you have friends.

Mrs Windows isn't that hideous, Chris.
I won't be buying it. A bad experience with the channel has left me too bitter and twisted to give them another chance. Not for this fight anyway.
Plus it clashes with Strictly Come Dancing.

That's not just the pub though. My friend are morons when it comes to boxing (and a lot of other things). Mike Tyson is the best heavy ever. Floyd is THE BEST ever. And my favourite, will Carl Froch not box Joe Calzaghe because they are brothers. Deary me.

Re: Hatton Confirms It's Primetime For Comeback
Can Primetime explain to me (or someone else) why this fight is actually on Primetime?
Its not a HD channel, the commentary is very poor as is the producer, picture quality is pathetic as well, and its not even a bloody title fight.
I paid for the Chavez Jr vs Martinez fight purely because i was interested in it, WBC Title fight with 2 of the top names in boxing. (Martinez for his brilliance and Chavez for his name).
Now Carl Froch, a 3 time world champion, is fighting in HD against a natural Light Heavy in Mack. Its a world title fight and is being shown in my subscription.
Ricky Hatton has not fought since May 2009. He is making a return in a bloody 10 round bout against a guy who was actually STOPPED.......YES, STOPPED, by Malignaggi, all be it on cuts.
Its not a title fight, its not HD, Froch is bigger and better yet his isnt PPV.
Can Primetime actually give us a reason or justification as to why this fight actually IS PPV????
Im struggling to find one gents!
Think i may leave this one out unless my Brother orders it, in which case ill be taking an hour drive to Stoke on Trent to watch it there!
What would happen if he were to win back a World Title?
Start showing one of Britains most popular boxers live on a poor channel??
Aweful in every aspect.

Hatton and Froch are on different channels with different business models though, so can the situations really be compared like for like?
I suppose the bottom line is that a company that specialises in PPV bid the most for the rights to show it. So the public have no choice.
I admire your sticking to your principles though. Stoke-on-Trent! Sod that.

I don't anyone with even a quarter of a brain agrees that it is a PPV worthy fight, but it is what it is. Obviously no-one else either wanted to pick the fight up/were offering enough money so Ricky did what he had to do. There is no point blaming either Primetime or Ricky, they have both exploited a situation that exists to the best of their ability. I don't like the channel and won't buy the fight, but I don't blame them for picking it up if no-one else wanted it.
It is more an indictment of the current state of the sport than anything else. Terrestrial can't afford/are not interested/have other commitments, and Sky don't need Ricky Hatton right now.
If Hatton won back a world title, then Sky would probably offer more money and Ricky would drop Primetime like a shot.

Just dont understand why we have to pay for a non title fight over ten rounds, yet in your subscription (if you have it), you get to watch a world title fight over 12 rounds, with a former world title challenger fighting as support. And in HD.
Whats wrong with Stoke on Trent?!

Because the superduper HD sports broadcaster that you (and me) already subscribe to don't want the fight? There is nothing more sinister or conspiratorial than that. If Sky really wanted it, they would have bid aggressively for it, won the rights and stuck it on Sky Sports 1. You can't expect Primetime to say 'ok we don't have HD and will really upset the boxing fraternity if we get this fight so lets not bother bidding for a fight that no-one else wants'. It makes perfect sense for them.
Nothing wrong with S-on-T. I went to a errm 'gentlemen's' club' there once and the ladies were lovely. The ones that didn't keep breathing stale tobacco smoke in my face, that was.
