WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
On the YouTube PPV pre-show, Matt Striker and Scott Stanford introduced the show from ringside. Striker plugged tonight's main event of C.M. Punk vs. Ryback, then Stanford introduced a video package on the A.J. Lee scandal storyline, including her resignation as Raw GM Monday on Raw and John Cena's involvement.
Back to ringside, Striker and Stanford sent the pre-show into the ring, where Michael Cole was standing by. Cole introduced top star John Cena, who made his way out to the ring to join Cole for a discussion. Cole and Cena sat down in director's chairs, and Cole began by noting Vickie Guerrero claims to have evidence about Cena and A.J. that she will present on Raw tomorrow night. Cena waited out boos, then said he's just as upset because he wanted to wrestle in A-Town tonight.
Cole ignored a jab, then brought up a question on whether he is passing the torch to Ryback. Cena mocked the question, then said he just wants to see what Ryback can do inside the Cell tonight. Cole then introduced a tout on what advice Cena would give Ryback against Punk tonight. Cena offered some advice that brute strength alone will not get it done, so Ryback needs to bring more against Punk. He said he's excited to see what else Ryback can bring to the table.
Next was a question on whether Cena can beat Ryback. Cena turned the question into a question for the audience. They were mixed, so Cena asked again. Cena waited out another round of reactions, then threw his name out there that he would like to be the first to challenge Ryback if he wins tonight.
Next was a question on Cena's toughest opponent. Cena noted it was this same building that the challenge was made for Cena vs. Rock at WrestleMania, and he would like to challenge Rock to another match because he thinks he can win the second match.
Next was a question on if Punk wins tonight, will Cena acknowledge Punk as the Best in the World. Cena acknowledged boos from the crowd, then said he still will not because he has to believe in himself every time he steps into the ring.
Next, a question on what one word would he offer to Vickie Guerrero. He said he can't use this word and that word, then offered "Silence!" Cena had enough of the tweets and touts, but received another tout, this time from Dolph Ziggler mocking him for his involvement with A.J. Cena sarcastically thanked Ziggler for his contribution before challenging him to a fight tonight. Cena cleared the ring, told Cole to scram, and challenged Ziggler. No sign of Ziggler, though. After a pause, Ziggler's music played.
Instead of Ziggler, though, interim Raw managing supervisor Vickie Guerrero walked out on-stage to interrupt. Vickie walked into the ring and accused Cena of getting his hands caught in the cookie jar. She said Cena is so professional... then Ziggler suddenly hit the ring to try to sneak-attack Cena, but Cena dumped Ziggler to the outside, cutting him off. Cena's music played and the announcers speculated on whether Ziggler will cash in his World Title MITB briefcase during the PPV.
The announcers then fed to a video package on the Sheamus vs. Big Show World Title feud that will culminate tonight. After the video, Stanford and Striker broke down the PPV line-up.
Backstage: Josh Mathews brought in World champ Sheamus for a pre-show interview. Mathews asked if he's actually the underdog tonight against Big Show, which Sheamus laughed off. Sheamus said Show thinks he will knock him out tonight, but this underdog's bite is bigger than Show's bark. He said Show is the type to back down from a fight, but he will never back down from a fight. He then vowed to Brogue Kick the challenger tonight.
The announcers then fed to a video package on Ryback ahead of his WWE Title shot against C.M. Punk tonight. The title match video package closed out the PPV pre-show.

It's still not enough to keep Orton down for three though.
Del Rio is frustrated and he stomps away at Orton. Del Rio heads to the top, but jumps off and does nothing. Orton pushes him away and hits a dropkick. Orton tries for the RKo, but Del Rio counters. He tries to toss Orton into the ring post, but Orton blocks it and elbows Del Rio. Ricardo pulls Orton's arm into the ring post and Orton turns around into the cross arm breaker.

CM Punk is the first man to make his way out to the ring and he's accompanied by his advisor Paul Heyman. Punk gets a nice reaction from the crowd on his way down toward the Cell.
Ryback is the next man to make his way out to the ring, and the undefeated monster gets a pretty nice reaction from the crowd, although there are a couple of audible 'Goldberg' chants from the crowd.
After formal ring introductions for both men, we're ready to begin the main event of the evening.
The bell rings and Punk heads to the outside. Punk heads back into the ring and circles Ryback, avoiding a lock up and heading to the outside again. Heyman tells Punk he believes in him. Punk heads back into the ring and circles Ryback. Punk ducks another lock up, and chops Ryback. Ryback chases his across the ring, picks him up by the neck, and sends him across the ring, stomping down into Punk's chest. Ryback slams Punk down to the mat repeatedly before whipping him across the ring hard.
Punk tries for a tornado DDT, but he's tossed away by Ryback. Ryback sends Punk over the top rope to the outside. Ryback follows and Punk tries to pull the door open. Ryback tosses Punk into the cage, then does it again. Punk crawls under the ring and Heyman begs Ryback to leave him alone. Ryback looks under the ring and Punk sprays Ryback with a fire extinguisher before charging and sending him crashing into the Cell wall. Punk grabs a chair from under the ring, and he runs right into a big boot from Ryback, sending the chair crashing into his skull. Ryback picks Punk up and gorilla presses him into the ring. Ryback heads into the ring and presses Punk again, dropping him to the mat.
Punk avoids Ryback and the monster crashes into the turnbuckles. Punk hits a springboard clothesline, then heads up to the top. Punk hits a double axe handle smash, then heads up top again. Punk hits another double axe handle, then heads up to the top a third time. Punk leaps off and is caught by Ryback before being driven into the corner. Punk catches Ryback with a back kick to the face to stop his momentum. Punk leaps through the ropes to take out Ryback. Punk hits Ryback with the chair before dropping Ryback with a neckbreaker on the floor.
Punk tries for the neckbreaker again, but Ryback fights it off. Ryback charges, and Punk moves, allowing Ryback to crash into the steel steps. Punk rolls back into the ring. Ryback is up and in the ring quickly. Punk clamps on a rear chin lock. Ryback fights to his feet with Punk on his back, dropping him with a backpack stunner. Punk struggles up to his feet and avoids a spear in the corner. Ryback goes in shoulder first into the ring post, but recovers quickly. Punk hits the running knee in the corner, following up with a clothesline. Punk heads up to the top rope and hits the elbow drop.
Punk grabs a kendo stick and whack Ryback across the back repeatedly. Ryback stands and shrugs off the blows. Ryback clotheslines Punk, then back body drops him before hitting a spine buster. Ryback charges in with a big clothesline before calling for shell shock. Ryback shoulders Punk and marches around the ring. The ref stops Ryback and gets down, low blowing Ryback. Punk rolls up Ryback and the ref fast counts to three.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: CM Punk
Following the match Punk pleads with the referees to unlock the Cell. Ryback recovers and takes out the ref before launching Punk into the Cell wall. Ryback then turns back to the ref and launches him into the Cell wall before tossing him back into the ring. Ryback winds up and clotheslines the ref before picking him up and pressing him over his head, throwing him to the outside into the Cell wall. Heyman tries to drag Punk out of the Cell, but Ryback stops him. Ryback whips Punk into the Cell and Punk leaps and begins climbing to the top of the Cell. Ryback follows up after Punk.
Punk begs off but Ryback follows. Ryback shoulders Punk and drops him with shell shock on top of the cell. Ryback stands on top of the Cell and leads the crowd in a 'Feed me more' chant'.

That ending was just awful. The beatdown following the pin was a;right, but otherwise a completely waste of a PPV, a Cell match, and me being up til 3am.

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
Before people read the spoilers later and rag on the event, I would say from a pure in-ring standpoint this was one of the best and most consistant PPV's in a long time, even the Diva's match had a good finish to it, with Sheamus vs Show being MOTN astonishingly.
As results go it wasn't the best though, the DQ finish for the tag match, though it does make a sense, was weak, I don't think anyone wants Show as WHC and of all the scenarios I could think of to finish the WWE title match that wasn't one of the better one's though Ryback carried his post match beatdown off with aplomb.
I'll probably write more about this later but overall I'd say this was a good if nor great PPV wrestling wise, though some of the finishes could have been better.

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
I haven't watched the show but saw a quick highlight reel on youtube and have to say they all looked fairly good matches, it looked like the Orton and Del Rio match looked like a great match and the finish looked pretty awesome.
I would say for once the finish was a very logical and consistent to the way Punk is now being booked (cowardly heel). Its not to my personal liking but it made sense. It appeared to me they paid off the ref to keep the title which like I say it made sense. It cant be shocking and swervey all the time. As long as it fits to the story I have no problem with it.

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
watched it this morning. HIAC has really become a let down and misnomer of a PPV. Why only 1 HIAC match? If the PPV is called HIAC then I'd at least expect all the important title matches to be contested in it! The only HIAC match itself was mediocre. The finish was a very poor way of ending Ryback's streak, but tbh the way WWE have booked it anyway, an anticlimax is fitting. Goldberg must be doing a picard at all the Goldberg chants, as Ryback is such a poor man's Goldberg.
The booking decision to finish the tag titles with a DQ was pathetic. Kane is one half of the tag champions at HIAC PPV; think of the spots his character could have produced in the cell, but no because he's partnered in a comedy double act with D Bryan, they decide to finish it on a DQ and know there's no DQ in a HIAC match.
The world title match was MOTN. Sheamus was made to look incredibly strong and courageous. It was an excellent performance by him and he gets a moral victory in a way of being the only person to kick out of the KO punch. However, this match was out of place at this PPV. This would have made for an excellent main event at another PPV. The only reason I thought they weren't contesting it inside the HIAC was because of Ziggler, so he could run it; but apart from one backstage shot of him nothing, no attempt to cash in. Without Ziggler this match could have easily been a HIAC match. Sheamus could have been made to look even stronger had he been battered against the cell wall by Big Show. Opportunity wasted.
Why doesn't Orton get the Cena treatment on here? How many times does Orton get beaten down only to pull an RKO out of no-where and win? When Cena does it it's like a phirana attack tearing his character apart for being 'superman' Cena. Seriously, I'm sick and tired of Orton getting cheap wins because of the RKO. ADR had him in two very painful looking armbars, which in an MMA fight probably would have finished the fight. Orton's matches are so predictable nowadays.
All in all a very tame PPV and really a mockery of what HIAC used to be.

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
The PPV was very good, every single match was very entertaining even though the crowd was dead from the off.
The Orton and Del Rio match was a great start to the PPV, back and forth match that ended with an RKO out of no where.
The Sheamus and Big Show match was the best match of the night. Very good and exceeded my expectations i had for this match. When Big Show won i was expecting it to last for 45 seconds again but it wasn't to be. Good match none the less.
The main event was a great match as expected. I said before the match on the chatbox, we have seen this ref before and is the dodgey ref that was involved in a run-in with Punk a month or so ago on Raw. Crap ending to a decent PPV, however the after match was class. When Ryback and Punk went to the top of the cell i really was expecting Punk to go through the cell! Would of been epic.
Good PPV though, can see that ref becoming part of Punk and Heyman stable.

I thought it was a good PPV tbh, every match was all right, even the Divas was ok
The crowd were dreadful. Worst crowd for a long, long time. They didn't get into anything at all, all night
Sheamus/Show was brilliant. Best Show match for ages, and then finish was done well
Ryback/Punk was good as well, ending surprised me very much, didn't expect that ref at all
Overall a very good PPV and worth staying up till 3am for
One very pleased WWE fan here

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
I sky+ this, I woke up at 2am though so decided to stick it on live and watch the Punk/Ryback match
I must say, when I first saw that referee I knew he was going to be involved in a screwy finish, he looks so out of place, I thought it the first time I saw him when he called a Punk spot wrong, its obviously intentional but they didn't need to make him stick out like a sore thumb beforehand, he looks like a young Bischoff and comes across as green as hell.
Now onto the match, I liked it, I thought it worked well, Punk is the best Wrestler in the World, he's not the best fighter, warrior or action man, he's the best Wrestler in the World and in the face of all that he managed to break Ryback down by being smarter than him and using his Wrestling speed, Ryback being a Warrior survivied though and with it being an Action Man match he began to get the better of Punk, all this was pretty well booked in my opinion, the ending was poor but I don't think it made Punk look weak, he didn't ask for help, the ref screwed Ryback and Punk exploited an opportunity, Bret Hart used this tactic often in his World Title matches, it made them feel like the most important in the World.
The aftermath was awesome, I was watching through my fingers as I thought Ryback would botch and put Punk through the roof of that Cell, his destruction was amazing though, that Gorilla Press bump into the cage was top notch
I think we have to say the PPV was a success, the whole point was wondering how Punk can keep the title and have Ryback look even stronger, for me it's job done.
Also, I know plenty of people aren't happy that there was only one Cell match, for me there should only be one Cell match, I've felt that the Hell in a Cell gimmick has been so undervalued in recent years due to multiple matches being played out in that enviroment
It's about time we saw a re-hash of Danny Davies tho'

Re: WWE HIAC Results thread - will contain spoilers no really it will
I see a lot of comments on here about how 'the crowd are dead' and not getting into it. My question for you is, what is your reaction when you watch WWE nowadays compared to 1998-2004 for example?
When I watched back in them days I was on the edge of my seat waiting for something exciting to happen and when it did happen I marked out because it was built up magnificently.
Nowadays I sit and watch WWE and I have to admit I often turn off (or fast forward if recorded) because let's face it, the writing, the booking and the direction the product has taken is utter garbage.
From my own experiences I conclude by asking, how can you ask a crowd to get into something that is not written well, booked well or built up properly? Writing for drama or theatre is meant to play with the audiences emotions and build suspense. If I was in that crowd I'd be dead because the product continues to disappoint it is often nonsensical and just isn't exciting enough.

Harry, I understand what you're saying but why would you fork out to go to a PPV though if you had so many drawbacks
I'd guess that most of the crowd that go will go because they want to be there and love the product, so that in itself should mean you could expect a better atmosphere
Wrestling has always been hot in certain cities and not so hot in other cities

I hate how they've begun to turn Punk into a cowardly heel..
Someone should tell WWE it is possible to have someone as a heel and still look strong, Every heel for years has been exactly the same.
The last heel I remember looking strong while still doing whatever it takes to stay champion is HHH (What a surprise.)

I think Punk did look strong last night to be fair, he didn't want to face Ryback, who would, but he did face him and went toe to toe with him in surroundings that would suit Ryback far more than Punk, what happened happened and Punk to advantage of the opportunity given.
I'd have did it differently but I think it got everyone over which surely has to be the main thing

So where do they go with Ryberg from here? How do they write him out of the WWE title picture now that Jumpin' John Cena has recovered from Chalara dieback or whatever it was that ailed him? Actually who cares?

The Sheamus/Show match was absolutely superb, that match has done more for Sheamus than the whole feud he had with Del Rio. It really should be a starting point for bigger and better things.
I didn't mind the finish in the Punk/Ryback match, put it this way I can't wait to see what happens with it on Raw tonight so it's done it's job there. Rybacks post match beatdown was done very well, and how good is Heyman as Punk's advisor?!

The issue is that Punk is still very likeable to the crowd so the only way to draw enough heat is for him to be a cowardly heel or else too many people will cheer for him. HHH on the other hand was just so much easier to dislike...

It sounds stupid and juvenile (I'm only young) but when Punk went under the ring during his match, I genuinely thought for a moment that Goldberg would appear out from underneath.
I dunno, it was late, wishful thinking, I was just disappointed with the night so far.

Really enjoyed that. Ryback deserves a lot of credit for his performance, and with suitable follow up writing the ref angle was a good swerve.

I'm surprised the cell stayed in tact when ryback dropped punk on it at the end. I know that ryback landed on the crossbeam (that must've hurt!) to reduce the impact, but the amount the roof was giving way when they were just walking on it. Were they even over the ring when they did it? Either way that was a serious height if something went wrong. Props to the both of them!
