Sharing recipes for your favourite meals.
My wife and I have decided we want to get away from take aways.
Here in South Africa you have the usual McDonalds, Kentucky, Chinese take aways, Pizza's, Etc.
But you do get tired of eating Burgers, chicken, Pizza's and Chinese. So we started a recipe thing, not any recipe, only food we enjoy and tat is easy to make as my wife is not the most enthusiastic cook you'll find.
Often it is up to me if we want to try something new, so after some careful thought we started with about 12 meals, all easy to make, some take as little as ten minutes to cook, others a little longer.
I hate overcooked vegetables, I don't like roasted vegetables, prefer them lightly panfried in butter, with only salt and black pepper, but it must remain crunchie.
Not too fond of oven roasts in general, rather put a piece of meat on the Braai and have a light salad with it.
Anyway, the idea here is that many of us single or married have to cook for ourselves and I am sure there are many out there that feel they eat too much take aways themselves.
So I suggest we start different threads for different types of dishes.
Maybe one for Pastas, one for Red meat, one for poultry etc.
THe idea is to give a list of the ingredients, how to make it, and also how long it takes to make.
For me at least it is important to know how difficult it is to make, and also to get feedback from those who made it on how they enjoyed the meal.
I much rather prefer to make something that others have already enjoyed, and not just something from an internet site, that doesn't provide me feedback on most of these issues.
My end goal is to have around 30 meals that are tasty, easy to make and kinda healthy, this way I don't have to eat the same thing over and over.

Nice one Biltong, I'm not much of a chef but hopefully will pick up a thing or two from this section.

Re: Sharing recipes for your favourite meals.
I knocked myself up a homemade pizza a couple of nights ago. Per bought pizza base from tesco, jar of curry sauce, chicken breast and some cheddar cheese. Fry the chicken breast in the pan whilst cooking the base in the oven. Remove base after 5 minutes and smear tomatoe purée over it. Get cooked chicken breast, and cover in warm curry sauce and apply to pizza base. Light sprinkle of cheese and back in oven for 5. All this is low fat healthy stuff but it tastes great (better than it sounds).h

There is plenty you can do depending on what type of things you are looking.
I tend to find if you want empty your fridge or use the ingredients that are going off then all you need to do is buy a pot of pesto, with mozzarella and parmesan and you can pretty much put anything in it and it will taste nice.
For example Artichokes, Sun Dried tomato's, Chicken, Corn, Pork, Courgettes, any vegetable really goes well in it.
Another quick dish I make is Smoked salmon with Onions and Pasta.
You boil the pasta, fry the onions and courgettes together and then put it all in bowl, and add the smoke salmon in. Put some creme fraiche with horseradish, and chopped dill and squeeze some lemon in and boom perfect!
