End of season or beginning of a new? Empty End of season or beginning of a new?

Post by racingnut Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:53 pm

This coming Saturday heralds the end of the Nh season,it starts again on the same weekend! Im old school and i liked it when there was a total break for the jumps fraternity then the season would start again with John Jenkins and John Francome bagging winners galore at places like Newton Abbott and Exeter.Does the board think that jumping needs a break, for everyones health including the horses? I do and i also think that you look forward to something restarting again more if its been totally taken away from public view.Im for at least a four week break for everyones sake.

It would be better if the NH season finished after Aintree, therefore allowing the spotlight to turn to the Flat, but then again with the AW racing the flat is now also a 12 month season.

I'm for a break also, got no problem with it finishing when it does however in my opinion a 6 week break would be ideal before the start of the new season. Like other sports, after a break you tend to look forward to the start of a new season with greater anticipation, and racing is no different.

I would have no jump racing May through to August.
I certainly don't follow it then.

then again I would scrap AW racing as well. Again I can't see the point of it.

Totally agree with your AW sentiments. Its absolute tosh.I went to Southwell once and almost fell asleep after the second race,no crowd,no atmosphere,no spectacle,no quality.

Well, ive just looked at the field for tomorrows so called end of season hurrah(Bet 365 Gold Cup) and it has to be said its lacking terribly in quality. Is it me or has this race wained in terms of the quality of protagonists in the last 5 or 6 years? I think the fact the last years winner and veteran Church Island carries top weight just about says it all.I can find loads of reasons for not selecting most of these and very few reasons for selecting any of them.two things that are going to be impertive, the ability to handle quick ground and jumping that will hold together round this tricky track.Baby Run will ensure theres no hiding place but hes had two hard races at both the big Festivals and for that reason and the current price hes passed over. One that i like is Faasel, yes i know hes enigmatic but he loves this better ground, hes fresh and if he decides to put it in im sure he'll run a big race,on some of his hurdles ratings hes thrown in.Not a race to get too involved in but at 16s or bigger i might throw a few shekels ew at him.

I think it is crazy that we are effectively back to the jumps tomorrow at Haydock and Sandown, just as we are beginning to adjust to the flat season. It is very confusing. Even more so considering the weather! Tomorrow at Sandown will feel like Eclipse day in July I should think.

Agree with racingnut about the quality of the Gold Cup tomorrow. It is a very poor renewal. I would love to see Baby Run win again but surely it is unlikely after 2 big runs recently. I also think Faasel is a massive price tomorrow. He won me some money at the festival as I thought he was the each way bet of the week at Cheltenham and so I can't really ignore him tomorrow. I think Meanus Dandy is the best alternative, Ruby Walsh rides, he won at Sandown a year ago and should be fresh for this.

I think there should be a break of a couple of months at the end of the Jump season........for everyone's sake.....especially the stable staff.
I know horses have to be cared for 365 days of the year but it would give the hard working staff a chance to unwind a little.

I've only just looked at the runners for the Bet365 Gold Cup......I agree it's very poor compared to previous years.

I still fancy Baby Run ....even tho' he's had two hard races recently.

I didn't know Faasel was now with David Pipe......I really must try and keep up Erm

I fancy....Poker De Sivola, Faasel, Baby Run and Church Island Very Happy

i think that there should be a break to show the end of 1 season and the start of the next. i agree with steveo that along with summer jumps, the all weather should be scrapped too or at least drastically reduced. the amount of racing today is crazy, think there is about 8 meetings altogether. im not up with the whole prize money issue thats going on at the moment but surely if they reduced the amount of poor racing going on then would there not be more money to go round so that the tariffs are met on the higher class racing?

also agree that this years renewal is really poor. i cant really pick a winner of this. i will probably route for church island, baby run or triggerman today

Thanks steveo,

I have to admit to being rather pleased with myself for that.

I'm seriously thinking of taking up this betting lark for real Very Happy
