'once brothers' Empty 'once brothers'

did anyone else catch that documentary on espn classic the other night, called once brothers?

was about Drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac, and their close friendship whilst they were in Yugoslavia and their first season in NBA...their relationship soured when he threw a croatian flag away in 1990 championship final...he later said that he would have done the same if it was a serbian flag as they were 'yugoslavians' at that time....

He re-traced all the steps throghout that time, and stepped back onto croatian soil for the first time in 20 years, and got a horrible reception from many croats...

he also visited his ex-best friend Drazen's grave and visited Drazen's parents who were still fond of him..

it was very intresting and moving documentary

It was one of those 30 for 30 documentaries and like nearly all of them, it was superbly done.

There are a couple of other good basketball ones in the series like The Fab Five, Wnning Time, No Crossover, and Without Bias. I haven't seen it but as part of the Volume II series, they made one called Benji about the murder of a High School Basketball star.

this one was very intresting, and it did show the real split between all of those nations, and it was shocking to see the reaction that Vlade got when he went back to croatia.

Saw this several months ago (ESPN Classic were showing lots of their 30 for 30 documentaries, which Thomond is right to say are largely excellent even for those of you with little interest in American professional sport).

This one was particularly outstanding because it was not really a sports documentary as much as the story of the break-up of Yugoslavia as told through the story of the country's two outstanding basketball players of the time. That they were never able to reconcile their differences because of Petrovic's untimely death, just as he starting to fulfil his potential in the NBA, made the story even more poignant.
