2 players that IMO should have been in the EPS from the start.

Burns called in in place of JTH and 36 provisional cover for Joseph who may or may not still recover in time form his injury.

By the start do you mean when the EPS was announced in July? I'm happy they're both there now, but I don't think either of them had done enough back then to be selected.

Re: Burns and Twelvetrees called up to the EPS (and now, Launchbury)
yes it is recent form thats seen them be promoted to the EPS.
im happy to see them there, burns is the form 10 in the prem and 12trees has been going from strength to strength and his last 2 or 3 games have been top class.
a little suprising to see another centre called up, perhaps a sign of lancasters willingness to use tuilagi on the wing..

Matt
Well it's a centre that got injured, so surely it's not that surprising that another has been called up? If anything the fact that it's a specialist 12, rather than another 13, indicates that they think they've got the outside centre position covered with Tuilagi.

More importantly 36 can actually cover 10,12,13 off the bench. We might see a sane bench!

I'd be very surprised if Twelvetrees covers 10 from the bench. He'd have to leapfrog two of Flood, Farrell and Burns in just two days of training, which I don't think is likely.

JJ was replaced and he also covered wing.
there are now 2 wingers in the squad (monye and sharples) we can only assume both will be starting and tuilagi will move to the wing in the event of injury.

That's some pretty exciting news. Shame for the two centres who are out but adding two good players as replacements that offer a very different game to the current encumbered.
36 and tuilagi in the centre?

Re: Burns and Twelvetrees called up to the EPS (and now, Launchbury)
backs in the squad (dont think i have missed any?):
care
dickson
youngs
flood
farrell
burns
36
allen
barritt
tuilagi
monye
sharples
brown
goode
scrum half- 3 available surely 1 will not be involved in the 22. id guess care to start and dickson on the bench.
flyhalf- also 3, again 1 will not be involved. flood to start farrell to bench.
wings + fullback- monye and sharples are the only wings and goode has been training with the squad this week (although what does brown have to do), these must be favourites to start.
centres- a few options here but i think it will be barritt and tuilagi
that leaves:
36
allen
brown
for the remaining bench spot. i know i have made some assumptions here but im trying to guess the lineup for saturday.

That's just for the Fiji game though - Ashton will almost certainly start all three games that he's available for.

Re: Burns and Twelvetrees called up to the EPS (and now, Launchbury)
This is excellent news - its a shame once again that its injury that has promoted players to the squad as oppossed to strait forward selection though that I guess is the nature of the eps beast i'd love to slay.
Lets hope the gods of form and injury shine brightly on them both and they remain in the squad/side for many years to come.

Can Twelvetrees, Burns and Sharples please all start vs New Zealand?

I guess 606 would be happy with:
Care
Burns
36
Tuilagi
That would be pretty threatening.
Does Twelvetrees take long range penalties for Gloucester when Burns is playing? How far can he kick from?

Erm....lets NOT drop Barritt please....i see what your doing Beshocked.
But you can keep Farrell at Sarries...
Im all for looking at Twelvetrees...but we need to get to see barritts alround game yet before we go hoying him out the squad....

Incidentally did anyone else see Clive Woodward's team in the Sunday Times?
9. Care
10. Cipriani
11. Ashton
12. Burns
13. May/Armitage
14. Wade
15. Brown
His general point was that players shouldn't be judged on perceived attitude problems from previous regimes - if they mess up under you then by all means get rid of them - and that a player's defence is easier to fix than attack. I'm not sure how happy I'd be with that midfield facing the springboks and all blacks though.

is that a team he seriously suggested?
Move Burns to 10...drop Cipriani off the nearest pier and bring in 36 or Barritt to 12 and it has a look of potential....

Unfortunately that doesn't surprise me.
Ashton is a right wing as well.
If Cipriani's defence is easy to fix why has no one done it yet?
Imagine Nonu running at that backline

I saw that backline touted by SCW and did have a chuckle to myself. Just pick names for the sake of it and stick them anywhere, genius.

Although, people forget J May made his breakthrough at 13 before replacing Olly Morgan at fullback. Also got a hat-trick at 13 in his JWC debut.
Will be nigh on impossible shifting Manu though; along with Ashton, a cemented place.

Palmer with a calf problem? Oh dear.
So we could be looking at 4. M Btoha 5. G Parling 19. G Robson for the Fiji game. Accepting that Parling is a quality line-out lock, is this the most underpowered second row England have ever fielded?

Thats great news. Launchberry was a stand out performer in the Premiership so far this season.
In all honesty i think most would agree that all three should have been included in the EPS from the start.
Though unfortunately i doubt that they'll see any serious game time unless further injuries.

I would cry if we put out Englands most uninspiring Second Row Combo ever!!
Botha
Parling
Bench
Robson
If we now have Launchbury in the squad and dont use him....Lancaster should walk away quickly with his head down!!!

I agree Geordie, but currently I see it as the only choice he will make. I would at least have Launchbury on the bench and give him 20 mins or so in the Fiji game. It would do him the world of good I think.

Id give him a full half mate. Id have him up all night learning the lineout calls....and have grafting his a$$ off getting familiarised with everyone...then i would put him on at half time and say...just go out there and create as much chaos for Fiji as possible....Manic Aggression
