Neath Port Talbot College take Ospreylian derby honours
8 November 2012 15:53pm
By Matthew Davies
Neath Port Talbot College were the big winners in the Ospreylian derby with Bridgend College at Llandarcy yesterday afternoon.
Playing at home, Neath Port Talbot outscored Bridgend eight tries to one, making it 20 tries in two matches for them. Bridgend found themselves trailing 27-6 at the break with it all to do. A brace of tries from Jack Powell and one each for Dafydd Howells and Joe Davies provided Neath Port Talbot with control of the match.
There was no slowing up for Neath Port Talbot, as they came out for the second half. Lewis Evans and Luke Price touched down within the opening ten minutes of the half to ensure their dominance continued. Winger, Ryan Fussell crossed the whitewash for Bridgend, showing that they still wanted to play some rugby.
As the game drew to a close, Shawn Henderson and Jack Anderson added Neath Port Talbot's seventh and eighth tries to round-off an impressive 55-13 victory over what is a strong Bridgend team.
The lead changed hands six times as a late Sam Evans drop-goal helped Gower College Swansea secure a 23-21 victory over Coleg Gwent.
Both teams exchanged penalties early on through outside-halves, Sam Evans and Scott Turner, before Gower's Adam Williams crashed over for a 5-pointer just before half-time, converted by Evans. Turner reduced the deficit with a penalty before the referee blew for the break.
Coleg Gwent snatched the lead soon into the second half as Alex Phipps grabbed a try for his team. Soon after, Gower were back in front as Tom Evans scored his side's second try. Evans slotted another conversion.
It continued to be Holly Wilaboobie for tat as Coleg Gwent found themselves in front again as Kaan Keen touched down. Turner added the extras to give Gwent a slender one-point lead.
Gower went on the hunt for the victory, needing one score to get back on top. Evans stepped back into the pocket and bided his time before slotting a crucial drop-goal. Sam Evans proved to be the hero as Gower held out for a courageous win.

Thanks. So they're playing each other 4 times over the year? Seems a bit much as I'm sure these guys have clubs to play for aswell. Llandovery College, Neath-Port Tablot College and Coleg Sir Gar are dominating.
