Round 4 - Predictions revealed
Kamran
Benfica 2 - 1 Roma
Menez --------- Cisse
Fellaini
Fellaini proved to be the match-winner with a tremendous display of strength and agility. Early on Cisse score the opener with a terriffic shot from the D and could have doubled after he hit the post from a 1v1 situation. Instead Benfica scored when he barged Burdisso and went round the keeper and unselfishly passed to Menez who tapped home. Fellaini then scored a beauty as he chested the ball from the corner, flipped it over Pjanic and volleyed home a screamer for the winner.
Porto 1 - 1 Valencia
Ribery ------- Navas
Honours even with this game and both goals came from individual brilliance from the wings. Navas was torturing Gibbs all game as he came inside and out and Gibbs couldnt read him whatsoever. In the end, Navas once again flew past Gibbs and rocketed a shot to take the lead. On the other side Arbeloa consistently fouled Ribery which resulted in an early yellow card and since then Ribery drove into Arbeloa who didnt commit and therefore Ribery got the upper hand. Ribery danced past Arbeloa and curled a sweet shot for a deserved equaliser. It remained a draw in the end.
Spurs 2 - 1 Napoli
Bale -------- Lavezzi
Higuain
Spurs continued their winning run with another fine performance. However, they had to come from behind after Lavezzi put the visitors ahead when he latched on to Cavani's flick and he guided it past the keeper. Bale started the comeback from a 50 yard run and fierce shot which was unstoppable and then he proceeeded to do the same but this time he cut back for Higuain and he smashed it home. Napoli tried to surge a late comeback but the Spurs defence held firm.
Newcastle - Schalke
Ben Arfa -------- Kaka
This game didn't live up to the hype as most of the big players failed to shine and get a grip on the game. Careless passing by both teams led to the game not flowing whatsoever. However, A piece of magic from Ben Arfa gave this game a lift that was needed. Sanchez flew past Fernandinho and laid it off to Ben Arfa who jinked past Mertersacker and unleashed a stinging shot from 30 yards. Newcastle should have doubled after Cazorla put Ibra through but he blasted it wide when he could have taken another touch. Schalke grew more confident and finally equalised when Lampard's corner found Kaka who took one touch and volleyed home a brilliant swerving goal. Newcastle tried to get the winner but time was running short in the end.

Not much between these sides but Benfica hold the greater threat for me especially with van Persie up front. Roma have a lot of good players but not many very good ones and in close matches, a touch of extra class can make the difference. Here, Kagawa fed van Persie with a sliderule pass and the Dutchman slotted home passed his exposed compatriot Stekelenburg. It proved enough to take all the points.
Lazio 1 - 1 Atletico Madrid
Mandzukic ---- Falcao
Both these sides have good looking midfields combining some tacklers and some playmakers. Defensively, the home side are superior and with the Vidal / Montolivo combination protecting the back four, they proved a hard nut to crack. Atletico have some top players offensively although Ozil remains a little less effective wide right. But with players such as Suarez and Schweinsteiger running the midfield for them, they do create chances. Falcao took one of these to give the visitors a half time lead. An even second half as Lazio pushed for an equaliser saw both sides have chances but none were taken until 10 minutes from time when Hazard slipped the ball past the sleeping Ferdinand to set up Mandzukic for a simple finish. Honours even.
Porto 2 - 2 Valencia
Ribery ----- Drogba 2
Pedro
Quite a match in Oporto as both sides went for victory. Porto have a very strong attack and they caused Valencia's defence problems all match although they do possess one of the stronger defences in the league, this being a tribute to Porto's attack. Valencia's wingers enjoyed themselves against the relatively inexperienced Porto fullbacks and provided Drogba with plenty of ammunition. Despite his passing years, the big Ivorian converted twice and really ought to have notched a hat-trick but Cesar pulled off a stunning save. Porto's wide men also had a profitable afternoon as both scored to save a point for the home side.
Tottenham 2 - 2 Napoli
Mata ------------- Cavani 2
Higuain
More excitement came at White Hart Lane as a strong Spurs attack took on a compact looking Napoli side. The home side took a while to unravel the problem in front of them but Bale and Lennon started to find room behind the wingbacks and create problems for the centre backs as Higuain and Mata moved into good positions. Spurs took a 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of Mata but Napoli have their triumvirate up front and they combined to set up Cavani for an equaliser. Spurs retook the lead on 65 minutes only for the same combination to set up Cavani for his second. Spurs would have won this with a stronger defence but both goals conceded exposed the need to strengthen, especially in the centre.

Benfica 3 - 1 Roma
Fellani, RVP, Huntelaar : Pjanic
Think Benfica are stronger all over here, and at home can't see past a win for them. Roma have talent in patches but it's too individual - I think Benfica would be wise enough to cope with their threats. Cisse would cause problems but Hummels and Agger would work between them to shut him out. The three behind Van Persie would work nicely, inter-changing similar to the Chelsea attackers. Roma get a consolation goal at the end.
Lazio 1 - 2 Atletico
Terry : Falcao, Ozil
A decent match up between two strong sides. I think with the home supporters would get right behind Lazio and get the players taking the game to Atletico. Manduzic, supported by the three midfielders behind him, would threaten. Ruoyl and Rio's pace perhaps not what it was and he could exploit that. Atletico are full of game winners though and could turn the screw in the second half. The lack of subs from Lazio, and the frightening attacking threat against Lazio's tired legs would secure goals for Atletico, leading to an eventual win.
Porto 2 - 2 Valencia
Yaya, Tevez : Navas, Vidic
Like both sides here. The attacks offer different threats, Porto's movement and pace will cause problems whilst Valencia's power and aerial threat through Drogba will cause different problems. I think both attacks are better than their counterpart's defence, so can see goals. Overall I reckon a draw is a fair result.
Newcastle 2 - 1 Schalke
Sanchez, Cazorla : Lampard (pen)
Good match ups, can see both sides full backs marauding forward and swinging crosses in for the attackers. Newcastle's midfield has a nice balance and I think they would win the battle here. Maxi and Lampard may find it difficult to cope with the pace. Pique to cope with his ex-teammate Villa pretty well. Will opt for Newcastle at home, with their players in better form.

Lazio 4-4 Atletico
(Mandzukic x2, Hazard, Kroos) (Falcao x3, Suarez)
Lazio have built a very strong side, and the defences and midfields match up very well, but the striker v striker argument wins it for Atletico. Mandzukic is on good form, but Falcao is at his electric best as he gives Terry and Badstuber the runaround. A very high scoring game, neither defence able to cope too well.
Porto 2-1 Valencia
(Tevez, Pedro) (Navas)
Same side as last week for Porto, despite the ineffective M'Vila in DM, their front 4 make a huge difference. I also feel the AM/CF combination of Sneijder and Tevez are much stronger than the combination of Tello and Drogba, don't get me wrong, Valencia are strong but on top of that I still don't feel Gago as the DM is enough to stop Porto, so a tight game but Porto edge it for me.
Spurs 3-4 Napoli
(Mata, Bale, Higuain) (Cavani x2, Hamsik, Lavezzi)
Same old Spurs, strong upfront but weak in defence. Napoli's formation sets up for a good attacking threat but I don't feel the back three, although natural for Napoli, is the right formation to contain Spurs' front four. Bags of goals, Napoli shocking Spurs with Cavani, Lavezzi and Hamsik on fire, using the "you score three, we'll score four" motto to good effect. On a side note, Verratti ran the midfield with Modric effective but not helping Parker in the slightest in trying to contain him. Verratti with all assists for Napoli as he's given space to roam.
Newcastle 3-1 Schalke
(Ibrahimovic x2, Cazorla) (Alonso)
Schalke doing well and responding to feedback, but sticking Lampard at RW to give Fernandinho the CM role is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Lampard is ineffective at RW as he has no pace, and with Maxi Rodriguez at LW and the badly out of form Kaka at AM, Schalke need to overhaul their front men to stand a real chance, although Reus returning from injury will help. Newcastle have too much for Schalke this week, Ibrahimovic the obvious in form player but Cazorla in behind is also on great form, and despite Alonso and Fernandinho doing well in midfield for Schalke, they fall to a defeat.

In fairness I also thought the attacks from both sides were far superior to the defences so gave it 3-4.
