India v England, Second Test, Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
First topic message reminder :
So the 2nd test of the 4 match series between India and England is getting underway at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium from tomorrow. The hosts are leading the series after their win in the first test at Ahmedabad.
The track is expected to have assistance for spinners, but the possible bounce from the track and proximity to the sea might offer something for the seamers as well. The pitch was previously used in a Ranji match where Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane had scored hundreds.
The weather is expected to stay good.
Both sides have injury concerns going into the match. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav is unlikely to be risked as he's not fully recovered from the back problems that necessitated calling up Ashok Dinda as cover for the 2nd match in a row. However Dinda, who had covered for Ishant Sharma is unlikely to make it to the playing side, Ishant should be the prefered option. This will be Virender Sehwag's hundredth test. India probable side.
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Cheteshwar Pujara
Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Ravichandran Ashwin
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Sharma
Pragyan Ojha.
As for England Ian Bell is unavailable for selection as he's on paternity leave. Stuart Broad has some fitness concerns. Tim Bresnan had a shocker of a match last time round, continuing a prolonged form slump. Steven Finn continues to be unfit. Cricinfo seems to think that Eoin Morgan, and Jonny Bairstow is likely to make it to the side in place of Bell.
England probable
Alastair Cook
Nick Compton
Jonathan Trott
Kevin Pietersen
Eoin Morgan/Jonny Bairstow
Samit Patel
Matt Prior
Stuart Broad?
Graeme Swann
James Anderson
Monty Panesar.
In 2006 England won at Mumbai on the back of an all-round performance from captain Andrew Flintoff and good bowling performances from James Anderson and Shaun Udal. The last test at the venue produced a very exciting match that finished as a draw with the scores leveled.

How much do India miss the Wall in this stiuation?
How much will they wish it was Tendulkar who had retired at the right time?

If anyone can blow it from here we can. As we saw last winter even small targets can be difficult in the 4th innings with the pressure of the situation.

Don't think the pitch has changed so much. Just think swann and panesar have completely outbowled their indian counterparts.

Re: India v England, Second Test, Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
Its been the casein all 3 innings...if players can get settled and start picking the bowling and are in the right frame of mind they can build an innings and relax. If they dont theres plenty of help for the spinners to take advantage of indecision and poor shot selection.
Most of Englands late wickets were simply chucked away, India are feeling the pressure.
Could wrap this game up by lunch tomorrow the way things are going!

It's interesting listening to the indian commentary. I hope that we don't sound so biased to the opposition.

Well, thats quite a comeback from England. Still Gambhir and Dhoni could still turn the match back in India's favour.
We really need to get one of these two out soon to give ourselves a chance of winning.

In general it's ok, but on close calls they tend to confidently side with the indian team. Example being the gambhir lbw call shortly before the dismissal of tendulkar. It was a close call, maybe out, maybe not out. The indian commentator said it was clearly missing the leg stump much to the shock of an incredulous collingwood.

Dhoni gone! India effectively 6 for 6.
England surely must fancy their chances now.
Panesar gets his 4th of this innings and is just 1 away from a 10 wicket match haul.

I could understand if he said it might have been missing so the benefit rightly should go to the batsmen. But to say it was clearly missing leg stump is a bit one-eyed to say the least. Agree India should be made to use drs. I wonder if after the series even the umpires might start to call for it being implemented worldwide. It can't be easy for them having to adjust every series.

Wow - shot there from Gambhir. Wonder if he'll just go all-out attack now? Its not like they've got much to lose now.

Looks like India are going into T20 mode as Ashwin belts a six off Swann, taking him to 10. He's already outscored everyone except Gambhir.

Haven't been listening too long, but reading the live text it seems the umpiring has generally been pretty good (taking the lack of DRS into account). No howlers that I've seen.

Patel pouches a skier from Ashwin and India are now 7 wickets down, with a lead of just 24.

Re: India v England, Second Test, Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
End of D3:
a great day for English cricket...and a humbling one for Flower.
Humbling realization.....his side can't compete without two of his "pets"...Monty and KP in the subcontinent.
His "pet" KP played one of the finest innigns seen on Indian turners....and dropped every drop of a hat...Monty bowled as good as any spinner can on these tracks....ripping and turning.
NOW...will Flower get rid of Broad and have a real 100% team for T3 ?
The pitch is exploding every over but unfortunately for India may not have enough..and barring a miracle from Bhajji with the bat....England should be able to seal this one tomorrow morning.
PS1* Swann says he loves bowling with Monty...he loves when Monthy takes a wicket.
Translated to English that means following
"OMG I am worried...what happens on a pitch where only one spinner will play..... I will lose my spot to Monty."
PS2* Ravi ashwin ct. Patel bowled Madhusudan Singh Panesar.....might seem like this is a Ranji Trophy game going on
