Robin Soderling Having Doubts
It appears from this article that Robin Soderling is having doubts about his future in tennis.
At 28 yrs old and having had 18mths off will mono he seems not to be making the progress he had hoped for.
Is he now losing any incentive that he may have had to return to his career. ??

A slight mistake - your article implies he is 27 NOW but actually he is 28 now and was 27 when the mono issue started.

I don't see it. I always thought, that a lot of players who rely on power, that he'd start to wane earlier than say Fed or Ferrer without the mono
I couldn't see him getting back in the Top 15
Monfils is another we should be concerned about - I'm beginning to miss his kamikaze Tennis!!

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
not a fan of Soderling, who epitomises the word "ball-basher", but nonetheless it's very sad to see injury/illness cut a good career short. He'll always be remembered as the first (and so far only) man to beat Rafa ar RG, as well as the man who broke Federer's run of slam semis.

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
I had even read elsewhere, TT Warehouse I think, rumours of having been banned from the game after a failed test. Garbage I'm sure. Yep he didnt do badly beating Nadal and Federer at a slam...not many can say that for any slam!

I cannot say that he was my favourite player ..yes I do think of him as a ball basher and rather an unpleasant character at times.. one of my memories was when Almagro beat him in the final in Stockholm and how very unsportsmanlike he was on that occasion. However I do not wish injury or illness on any player and especially now with the birth of his little baby girl. So I hope he recovers soon

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
I remember him for his impressions...
All these players are disappearing. Soderling, Davydenko, Nalbandian, Roddick (now retired), Monfils, Verdasco, Gasquet (or is he coming back?), Youzney and even players like Fish, Simon, Cilic, Querry, Bagdatis and Wawrinka who could be a threat on their day are no longer scary in the least.

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
I liked Soderling. On his day he was unbeatable as Nadal and Federer found out at RG. Funnily enough, I never had clay down as his best surface but it just shows what a weapon his forehand was.
If he doesn't come back I will really miss him but he's not done too badly. I guess for a player outside the Top 4 just now, a Masters 1000 or 2 is probably the best they can do, which is sad in its (or is it "it's"?) own right.
It's a shame we lost him when he did; he was playing the tennis of his life (near enough).

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
For me, it was worse than his admittedly dodgy personality. Out of all the recent Slam finalists / Masters winners, he was the one who lacked courage, would fade when the going got tough, nearly every time
He made Tsonga's 'courage' look like that of Jimmy Connors!!

lacking courage? He did what no one has ever dared to do... and I don't mean the impressions.

What he dared to do didn´t need courage

Re: Robin Soderling Having Doubts
Sad for him, great player on his day and two consecutive RG finals is an impressive feat. Bizarrely, for me his defining moment will be when he stood his ground during the court invasion in the RG 2009 final. Pretty sure Soderling would've clobbered the guy if the security guards hadn't finally tagged him!
I hope he recovers fully soon, but he's had a great career if not.
