Great corner tactics!!
Folowing on from Jimmy the bullet's quality production....Here are some corners that really helped get a fighter through a fight.......
MOORER - Holyfield - Wonderful performance by Atlas....
HONEY - Curry - Duff cajoled his Man through the fight...boosting his confidence....Also quick to tell Honey he was fighting the wrong fight against Starling....
WILLIAMS - Chyz - No overreaction when Williams was getting creamed early....The old sage relaxed his Man between rounds and gently cajoled him back into the fight...good work..

Re: Great corner tactics!!
Teddy Atlas urging Moorer on is the one that sticks in my mind, he couldn't have done any more to try and get Moorer to be more active but he seemed to be working with a fighter in a world of his own, missed his chance to really put a beating on Holyfield that night.
McCracken in the corner for Froch against Taylor is a great example of a clear headed concise trainer, wasn't getting flustered when things weren't going right but kept his instructions clear and simple throughout.

Great trainers know what works for different guys...
Soft cajoling or a rocket up the butt...
We prefer the latter at the blue oyster!!!

In Atlas' case he's always been a rocket up the butt kind of guy, doesn't really show any sympathy for his fighters, I may be wrong but he called the Foreman knockout a couple of rounds before it happened.

Re: Great corner tactics!!
D'you remember before the Foreman fight when he was trying to get in George's face and grabbed him at the press conference.......
George said "go get me a sandwich".........
Bit out of order that but you're right...If you're sensitive you don't hire Atlas..

Re: Great corner tactics!!
His career has never really gone anywhere because of it, other than Moorer I can't think of any other high profile fighter he's led to a world title. Trying to intimidate Foreman is never going to work, even as an old man he was made of pure flabby granite.

He missed out with Tyson...
Could have been a great launching pad for him..

Can't imagine that partnership would ever have worked, Tyson always needed a softy in his corner to give him encouragement and reassurance something Atlas was never able to do.

Re: Great corner tactics!!
Then again maybe If he'd held that gun to Tyson's head during the Douglas fight and said " side to side or you get this..."
history might have been different..

Great example, Froch was looking a bit lost as it was his 1st experience of a fight not really going his way I think. McCracken got Froch fighting the right fight and making Taylor work the whole time rather than just nick the rounds while Froch lunged in poorly which was how the fight had been going. Froch really boxed well the later half of the fight and it was by know means a case of Taylor running out of steam after dominating 11 rounds like some people seem to remember.

Going into the last round there really was only a round or two in it, have watched the showtime feed of that fight and they had it even going into the final round while the associated press had it as a split decision in favour of Taylor. Round 8 onwards was all Froch.

Re: Great corner tactics!!
i think booth was great in the corner of groves against degale. he was getting a full 60 seconds of clear and concise technical instructions, and in the other corner degale was getting all the wrong advice (telling he's winning, not urging him to step it up etc).

Joe Goossen with Corrales in the first Castillo fight.
After his second knockdown and a point deduction he said something along the lines of " you best f**king put it on him now!" Cant remember the exactly what he said but that seemed to work

Might be true ghostly but given the knockdown and boxing lesson he'd had earlier, you had the feeling wAtching it... At least among those I watched it with, that he needed a ko to win by round 8. Also it seemed more like Taylor gassing than froch turning it around in my view. All credit to him for doing so regardless
