2013 Draft
Kansas City is now on the clock. Surely they have to take a QB, though at #1 its a stretch for this years crop. Beyond that, I know for sure Jacksonville are #2, Oakland #3 and Philly #4.

Re: 2013 Draft
I still think even as a QB, #1 is far too high for him.

Re: 2013 Draft
Lions will pick 5th rounding out the top 5.
Whichever of the Browns and Cardinals had the easier schedule will pick 6th with the other 7th.
Bears will pick 20th as the sole team on 10-6 who did not make the postseason.
Giants will pick 19th with a Redskins win

I'm pretty certain there is no agreed top QB, so hard to give the name but can't see them not going for QB unless they've got one of the less favoured ones as their top guy I doubt they trade the pick.mikeygnfl wrote:Geno Smith?

Awful year to be desperate for a QB.

I'll probably do a couple of mocks before the draft but not until after the superbowl.

Yeah I think I'd have a hard time justifying Smith at #1. Think KC fields calls

For the last three years, I've tried to do about 4 mocks. One after the end of the regular season, one after the SB and senior bowl and one after the combine and just before the draft

Re: 2013 Draft
I don't think Smith is that great a number one overall prospect, but I'd have a hard time putting anyone else in that spot. And with the KC qb situation so dire, unless a guy like Glennon or Barkley rises a hell of a lot, I still see Smith being the guy whether he is good enough or not.

Think back to two years ago. Everyone had Fairley and Bowers going to Carolina...

Bowers turned out to have no knee, Fairley turned out to be a knob and Luck was going #1 before he didn't declare

Also worth mentioning that Pioli is likely getting 1 more year so would he entrust that to Smith

Re: 2013 Draft
The issue with this draft is that pass rushers and cornerbacks are probably the positions offering the most talent. Clowney next year will be the exception most likely but the positional value isn't enough for first overall.
I always had Cam going number one, it was just the thing with his dad that had people going insane for no reason

Definitely not, but I don't think there was ever any doubt he was the best in his draft class. He was nowhere near as good a prospect as Luck or RG3 though

Re: 2013 Draft
I bet the Rams were hoping for something better than 22nd from Washington.
It wouldn't be much of a surprise if the Chiefs pick up a QB like Smith, Flynn, even Tebow to do a job for a year or so while they strengthen othet areas.

True, but unless RG3 is AD2 their return next year might be better than expected.mikeygnfl wrote:I bet the Rams were hoping for something better than 22nd from Washington.

How far up the board? I have the feeling he's going to regret not declaring last year.mikeygnfl wrote:I can see Matt Barkley rising up the board.niner wrote:I don't think Smith is that great a number one overall prospect, but I'd have a hard time putting anyone else in that spot. Re: 2013 Draft
It depends on how desperate teams get and which QBs are available for trade/ free agency. There are about half a dozen teams at the top of the draft that will be looking at QBs.

Re: 2013 Draft
Good point, but I think there are very few teams who will be looking at their roster and saying "QB is the only need" or at the QB class saying "he's an elite QB".mikeygnfl wrote:It depends on how desperate teams get and which QBs are available for trade/ free agency. Re: 2013 Draft
I think Barkley will work back into the mid 20s simply because hes a QB.
Can't imagine Reid will get too cute with the pick though, it'll probably be Geno Smith.

Re: 2013 Draft
I've been reading reports suggesting Oakland may be looking at trading down in the first round to obtain more picks. Sure Buffalo were the team mentioned because it would mean Oakland dropping to 8th but then also getting on the clock in the second round as well
Although I can safely say no matter were Oakland end up picking its going to be defensive all the way with pretty much every pick we have

Makes sense for the Raiders to move down/ get more picks as their 2nd round pick was traded to the Bengals.

Re: 2013 Draft
I think both Jacksonville and Oakland will hope to trade down, think most offers will come from teams scared of missing out on Joeckel or Milliner.

I think we have to move down to be honest. We need work everywhere on the defense and that seems to be where the talent is in this draft. I reckon we could drop back into the middle of the first and pick up Mingo or Dion Jordan or maybe even Manti Te'o. We'd at least get a proper chance to strengthen our depth with a couple of extra picks too. It's just finding a team desperate to jump up!

Re: 2013 Draft
Kansas City Chiefs have come out and saud they will 'take the best player available' which means they probably won't be drafting Geno Smith.

If the Eagles go to Cover 2 I'd have a hard time seeing Milliner get past 4.

Albert Breers mock is interesting, bases it off the opinions of those he speaks to within NFL teams http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts/albert-breer/155117

Re: 2013 Draft
Some interesting selections there. Joeckel looks the consensus no. 1, Keenan Allen looks a good fit for Miami and Eddie Lacy would be a curious pick for the 49ers.Derbyblue wrote:Albert Breers mock is interesting, bases it off the opinions of those he speaks to within NFL teams http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts/albert-breer/155117

Re: 2013 Draft
Who do we reckon is the best player available? I'd say Joeckel, but I can't see KC taking him. They need a potential playmaker and a new face, Joeckel wouldn't be glamorous enough.
Don't like the look of that mock. Barkevious Mingo at 3 is too high for an edge rusher who has had a disappointing year and can be targeted with the run. Star Lotulelei is top 5 talent, picking him at 11 seems unrealistic. I rate Dion Jordan higher than 15, but I just like him and think he can be a well rounded OLB. Good against the run and at pass rushing, and much more athletic and better in coverage than you would expect from someone who is 6'7".

Re: 2013 Draft
That fits quite nicely with who I feel have 1st round value. Only real ? I would have at this point are Mingo, Hunter, i'm not Ogletree's biggest fan but I can understand why he might be highly valued, I like the two TEs but they might be overvalued, similar situation with John Jenkins. Good to see Jesse Williams in there.Derbyblue wrote:Albert Breers mock is interesting, bases it off the opinions of those he speaks to within NFL teams http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts/albert-breer/155117
