Toby Floods tackle for all to see
First topic message reminder :
Not not a Prince Harry moment but the tip and Andy Goode last night
http://www.espnscrum.com/premiership-2012-13/rugby/story/175309.html
Fair play for him for being able to push the lard bucket that far (who himself should be cited for 2 incidents in the game) certainly less of a mismatch than Warburton vs Clerc but still doesnt look good for him at all. Squeeky clean record and being a jolly good chap and all that should help but if he dioes get a ban it screws his chance of regaining form in time for the 6 nations.
Looking at it Flood was driving sideways and almost falling over when Goode was actually tipped and rolled, and he wasnt dropped or driven from a height, Goodes head was almost down by the point his legs went over horizontal and he had a hand down.... appears clumsy rather than deliberate....probably a low end with record and lack of biscuit eating taken into account shouldnt keep him out too long.
On his performance though I dont think his coaches would be too bothered if he was banned for a long time. Looks rusty, big worry for the lad whos really struggled with persistent injuries over the last few years. Its threatening to derail his career, and last night wont help one bit.

Was flood carded??
Just saw the video and IMHO if the second tackler hadn't pushed Goodes head toward the ground causing Goode and Flood to topple the tackle itself was a very good strong tackle, it just ended unfortunately for Goode.
I wouldve waved play on, but then I enjoy rugby as a physical contact sport, many at the IRB would prefer it as touch I think!!

Varndell safely put a player down,
the moment of inertia could have turned it into a spear tackle but Varndell made sure it didn't and placed him down safely.

Here you can see the Vosawai tackle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUolaIjDtoQ
I expect at least a 4 weeks ban, he looked dejected but that was utterly stupid to do that.

Flood's tackle looked really bad on Goode, it was not intentional but they normally are not but it looked worse than Wrarburton's tackle in the RWC. If the tackle was in the HC it will be 12 weeks out.

Flood cleared.
Suggestions that he was deemed not to be "solely responsible" for the way Goode fell. I will wait to read the hearing transcript before making any other comment.

Re: Toby Floods tackle for all to see
IK see from the other thread on this topic that the WUMs and Trolls have been drawn like a moth to a flame - shame as I would like some sensible discussion on this.
any way quote from the chair of the panel:
We all knew Hawkins was involved - but looking at the tape again I see that Percival has his hands under Goodes hips - kind of. I reckon though he means that Goode knew it was Feeble Flood who was incapable of holding his vast weight and thus dived.
any way quote from the chair of the panel:
"Whilst we found that the elements of a dangerous tackle were made out, after very careful analysis we could not be satisfied, to that standard required, that the dynamics of the incident had not been caused, or contributed to, significantly by the involvement of other players from both teams."

Re: Toby Floods tackle for all to see
It's a dreadful decision but until these panels become divorced from the unions (I'm not entirely sure how they can be in the premierships case) you will always get this. Would an Irish panel or a welsh panel have done different for one of their players? Some chance but it is perhaps something the IRB should look at

I'm glad he's been cleared as I personally didnt have any great issue with the tackle in the first place, even if he hadnt had a bit of help from a friend.

Viewtothegym - removed your posts because these kind of posts have already caused a lot of bickering in this thread and any more of this will lead me to locking the thread.
There has been some reasoned and articulate debate on this thread - I'd like to keep it that way!

Perhaps the most relevant ...considered an "off field yellow"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1g2r35-aOI
No doubt the England selectors influenced that too

Re: Toby Floods tackle for all to see
haven't most other tip tackles been a one on one tackle? Where this one there were 3 or 4 players?
Doesn't common sense tell you that when there's that amount of people involved in a tackle it's not the decision of a single player on how the other lands.
I really don't get those that said this was worse than Warburtons in the WC, that was a single one on one tackle so Warburton would of had sole responsibility of making sure the player landed safely.

Re: Toby Floods tackle for all to see
From the Wales Online/Western Mail, Gwny Jones
"The Dragons have been affected by the loss of their star players but one region making a seamless transition in the face of player departure is the Ospreys.
They take on Leicester this weekend in the Liberty. They have a good chance of winning that match despite the scandalous decision by the Rugby Football Union’s disciplinary panel to clear Toby Flood of a spear tackle.
They have said that it was dangerous but not entirely his own fault. So Flood is freed to play in the important matches coming up.
In my view, Flood’s tackle was worse than Sam Warburton’s in the World Cup and much worse than Lloyd Williams’ this season.
Shame on the RFU and I would not be surprised if this brought the IRB into the debate over citing committee independence.
This reminds me of the time when Martin Johnson had committed an act of thuggery and was banned by the RFU.
But of course the ban ended the day before Wales played England in the opening match of the Six Nations."
This is what others on here have already stated.

Glam,
The good Dr Jones is of course entitled to his opinion which will have been informed by his own personal experience. It doesn't make it true though.
When he says the tackle is "worse" than Warburtons does he mean "more likely to cause serious injury" or "more illegal"? He may be correct if it is the first but I would have to seriously disagree with him if he meant the second.

He's wrong, plain and simple. The last couple of paragraphs smack of one eyed bitterness.

Just read another bit of the article.

I thought that was a slight stretch on the number of SA's, his Blues team he seems to follow have a few but they are duff SA's so don't count.
