the rock
i dont know if this is just me or if other people get annoyed by this too so il put it on here and see.
does anybody else get annoyed when the rock refers to himself in the third person? "you laid out the rock" ermmm why not just say "you laid me out" it winds me up when people talk in the third person about themselfs......also the catchphrases he comes up with are just childish fruity pebbles and the latest one "cookie puss". when he said "cookie puss" i didnt know what to make of what he had just said its something a 10 year old would say to his brother.
anybody else find some of dwayne "the rock" johnsons antics annoying?

He's had the same schtick for 15 years, it's nothing new. I think that's the problem I have with it actually. For me, the guy's still got every ounce of charisma he ever had, but he seems a bit stale, like we've seen it all before...because we have.

Something didn't feel right last night. CM Punk was being serious and set the mood appropriately. Didn't feel it was the right time for The Rock to be his jokey self. I felt he may have needed to be a bit more serious.
Kudos to Punk for an excellent promo

I see your point, its maybe slightly outdated and stale.....but he is still head and shoulder above everyone else on the roster, and i think that includes Punk.

If you listen to what he actually says then yeah, its a bit stupid. The way he delivers it is what makes him special. Only Austin can grab an audience like the Rock.

Re: the rock
Why does that Triple H fella always add an "ah" to words he feels important?
Think The Rock was good when he was serious, but he overdid the humour. The odd joke thrown in is good, but it threw off what could have been a good back n forth.

On that note on Rock over-joking.
Isn't that exactly where people raised issue with Cena this time last year when he was entering the feud with Rock towards Mania?
That The Rock would pull off a great promo only for Cena to smirk it off with an attempted lame pun.

Rock's jokes have a semblance of humour. I at least smile.
In response, I suggest you rewatch John Cena making wiener jokes, a Mexican wave and then something about rubbing off that actually didnt really make sense

The difference is that Cena was no-selling in an attempt to emasculate The Rock.
I think it's fair to say that Rock isn't joking because he wants to undercut Punk. He's doing it because, rightly or wrongly, he thinks it'll help to get the feud over.

Re: the rock
if you think of that segment last night as a debate then by most counts Punk won, of course he got rock bottomed so moral victory, yay cause that's what's important in a combat sport

Re: the rock
I thought that both played their roles excellently last night. It was important for Punk to look strong through the talking segment, hence Rock needed to go for humour rather than strong points to counter him. Plus Rock still put Punk over as a great and talented champion. That is the difference compared to Cena.
Also, the humour was required because part of the point of the promo was that Punk wouldn't get riled by it unlike other people, it was one of my favourite Raw segments in a long, long time.
Unlike the opening, which was hideous on so many levels.

Re: the rock
Nice point actually, that Punk was shown to be unmoved by the jokes and the schtick. I still think Rock overdid a touch, and that he tries to trend too much, but the intense stuff and the fire of The Rock was another level compared to every other guy, and CM Punk is the only man WWE have full time who can stand up to that. They even dropped Punk's whingy side, he came out against Ryback with fight and its almost like he has his focus back cos he wants to fight Rock, rather than be the wuss heel. Exciting

Re: the rock
I thought both Rocky and Punk were on point last night and it made for a fantastic showdown.
I agree that maybe the attempts at "trending" were slightly overdone, but The Rock brought some intensity and it really added fuel to the fire.
Watch any Rock rivalry and he has always used the intense/funny combo and it works a treat, just like it did last night. He wasn't trying to make Punk look stupid, he was playing his part in the feud, unlike what Cena did last year.
Punk was also magnificent in his role, and the fresh focus was brilliant from the moment he went up against Ryback to the showdown with The Rock.
I can't wait to see Punk and Rock spar a few more times in the build up to the Rumble, some proper hype for a main event.
Can't wait for the PPV itself either.

''Your arms wont be long enough to box with God''
Brilliant.
The segment was brilliant, intense and they have more chemistry than Rock and Cena ever had.

Re: the rock
I thought the promo to end Raw was very good, a far cry from what Cena gave us at the start of the show.
Like JJJohnson said, The Rock has always used the comedy elements in his promos and he makes it work with his delivery. The only time I can remember him being always serious in a fued was with Austin leading upto WM17 & Hogan for WM18, although I may be wrong.
Punk took it to another level with his promo before Rock came out, the man just knows how to deliver on every level.

Re: the rock
I watched this yesterday but haven't posted yet, all I can say is wow, in around 1 hour Punk, with some credit to The Rock and Ryback, took an average show and turned it into a great one, chalked up another fantastic match and iconic promo and re-affiremed that he is the best thing going in WWE today.
The face-off between Rock and Punk was the best dueling promo I can remember in years, probably since the Rock and Austin were in their pomps, full credit for WWE in allowing Punk the right of reply and immunity to The Rock's put downs (which has stregthed his position no end).
It has reached the stage where I wouldn't mind seeing Punk retain at the Rumble and carry the title through 'Mania, probably far from the most logical and realistic option but he is so much more entertaining than any of the alternatives, I'm half tempted to cast logic aside.
Can't wait to get some more of this feud.
Rest of the show pretty average, Cena vs Ziggler was a quality match but it strikes me as a bit pointless that Cena started a remdeption storyline, re-deemed himself and managed to bury Ziggler and Langston's finishers in the process, not much else to be said for the middle of the show, decidedly average some watchable matches and 3MB are entertaining in their own jobber-ific way.

Re: the rock
I'm just not feeling the love for the Rock's promo as everyone else it seems.
I thought Punk's promo whilst excellent at times was perhaps a bit too close to the cusp of going behind the curtain on the worked shoot approach, it's hard to put toothpaste back in the tube etc and a fair number of younger fans it would have gone over their head.
And Rock when intense was great, but the comedy elements for me just didn't do it, cookiepuss for example is a reference to a 1980's icecream, well that'll be down the kids too.
The line of 'Your arms wont be long enough to box with God' was simply top drawer though.

I think it has been said before that while I wasn't thrilled by the comedy parts on first watching upon re-thinking I actually think it works quite well, it was nessecary to have the comedy to then have Punk's non-reaction to it, it puts Punk psycholigically on a level above a lot of The Rock's opponents who have become flustered by his charisma.
Hopefully as a result of this Rock does get more serious as he hinted at, at the end.
Also if Punk's promo went over the head of younger fans, turn about is fair-play because if '6th grade weiner jokes' and mexican waves was supposed to be funny it went totally over my head as well.
