Froch-Kessler II now looms into view (update)
It appears that Team Froch are hopeful that an agreement can be reached for Froch-Kessler II before the 15th January deadline when purse bids are invited for Carl's mandatory IBF defence against Adonis Stevenson (see BBC website).
If true, this means two things - first, that Bute has opted against triggering the rematch clause against Froch and second that Froch is prepared to relinquish the IBF belt, since he will undoubtedly be stripped of it if his next fight is not against Stevenson.
Good news all round, if everything goes according to the script. Another example of the modern trend where the identity of the two fighters in any contest easily trumps any belts that may be at stake in it.

froch has always been proud to call himself a champion, and has claimed to be more interested in belts than money. maybe he can do a deal with the IBF.

When keeping the belt means not testing your self against the best the world, then the belt is meaningless. I believe (hope) that a return fight against Kessler, although extremely lucrative, is more about proving to everyone that he is better than he was in their first fight. (I did have Froch losing that fight by the way). Froch has consistently gone after the tough fights and a belt or lack of it will not stop that now. Let's hope that the fight happens as it is one most of us in a sane mind want to see.
