ROG to be cited???
Some speculation in Irish papers that O'Gara could be cited for that stupid kick into the back of the Edinburgh 2R's leg - didn't seem to connect very much but the intention was there and if it is deemed as foul play then he could face a ban which could keep him out of the Racing Metro game next weekend. Whether he gets a ban or not, it was a dumb thing to do whaterver provocation he got and it stood out that he was hauled off straight away by Penney.
Of course, there is the school of thought that if Munster are to have any chance of getting a BP then they would be better off with Keatley at 10 than ROG.

Re: ROG to be cited???
It certainly looked like he connected very well.
Utterly stupid and petulant thing to do. Would have hoped for more from a man of his age and experience. Truth be told I would have hoped for more from an U11.
Every cloud though. I don't really understand why Penney persists with him but this should give him the opportunity to get Keatley and JJ invoved, no?

Re: ROG to be cited???
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for ROG to lash out with his legs, noticed it on a few occasions after he's been tackled, like around 2:53 on this video, deliberately kicking out then tripping Biggar

He also kicked Roncero in a tackle while ROG was on the ground, he pushed his feet up in to Roncero's belly. Somehow Roncero got yellowed and ROG didn't, Rugbydump did a thing on it a while ago.

ROG is just lucky his pack jumped in and rescued him afterwards. Sean Cox looked like he was going to rip his head off!

YEah of all the people I would kick in the back of the Leg, Sean Cox wouldn't be near the top of the list.

Re: ROG to be cited???
Probably a low level ban - a couple of weeks - enough to keep him out of the HC next weekend, unfortunately not enough to keep him out of the 6N so Uncle Deccie will keep his pet in the squad instead of giving Jackson/Keatley/Madigan a try as reserve to Sexton

It's ok, never fear O'Gara fans I am on my way to the IRB to plead his case you can trust me to make sure he is given an unfair and not proper trial from a jury of people who have Irish international rugby's best interests at heart so expect him back about oh well if I had to guess I would say Sunday 17th March
Re: ROG to be cited???
At the time, way back in 2001, it looked like the actions of a mindless Aussie second-string loser, but in view of his subsequent track record, maybe Duncan MacRae was just another recipient of the toe-end of O'Gara's cultured right boot?

No - O'Gara was chatting up MacRae's woman at the formal do the night before - no joke.

Lowest end sanction for kick is 4 weeks. So unless Radge manages to convince the citing panel that it was an "accident" then I'd expect minimum that, maybe 3 if he cops a guilty plea!

Re: ROG to be cited???
The citing officer has 50 hours from Kick off to make the complaint but the ERC seem to have been announcing any citing referal at the same time for each round so we may not hear about it quite that soon. Mind you, Munster's match was one of the last from the weekend so there shouldn't be a big delay.

Stupid but hardly worthy of a ban,
Isn't it the Irish motto to kick ahead, doesn't matter whos just kick one?
Maybe the Irish should ban him for not kicking hard enough, it was more of a tap and go.

Re: ROG to be cited???
Poor effort by O'Gara too no technique send him to me and I'll train him we will have him fighting Anderson Silva in no time
Re: ROG to be cited???
So he has been cited per the BBC pages. Not a great surprise but I thought citings were only for offences which, if seen by the ref, would have resulted in a red card? With the "ferocity" of ROG's kick and Sean Cox's intentions if he had manged to get to him, a "get well soon" card would have been more appropriate than a red one.
Outcome of panel hearing? a slap on the wrist (which has the impact of one of ROG's punches) and a "move on, there is nothing to see here"

Kicking is an auto red card and a ban. Its not the outcome or intent that matters - its the action. Kick a player and you will be red carded and / or banned 4 weeks minimum

Well, 4 weeks isn't the minimum ban just the "Low Entry Point".
That can be reduced by good previous record etc.

Players can be cited then only given a yc on their record ala Matt Smith after the Worcester game. As far as I understand it, any act of potentially serious foul play can be cited for further investigation.

ssh don't say that MrsP he did an awful thing and he should be punished harshly. He has been terrible fouler his whole life, in fact I heard from no source at all he hits old ladies ban him for months, I think an appropriate ban would see him coming back oh about Sunday 17th March.

Sam,
I think that may be just a Premiership thing. I don't think the ERC competitions are doing that. I am happy to bow to superior knowledge on the subject though.

Lordy, that was a baby kick. Petulant. Frustrated. Could have done no harm to anyone or anything.
Give him a ban because...............well...........just because it was so weak.
Outside that, handbags, but with his foot.

From a complete neutral, a couple of questions.
That playing surface at Liberty is about a thousand percent better than that at Millenium stadium, Why dont Wales play their Internationals there and give their backs the opportunity to perform?
I could hardly see the subject incident, but to me it looked like a bit of a reflex action, not the end of the World, and how many of us can say that we havent gone down that path ourselves? but what this sort of thing sometimes does indicate, and that is a player in the twilight of his career???

Re: ROG to be cited???
Ah he should be banned, it would be a blessing for Munster. And I am a huge fan of ROG btw, but this season his aging has properly caught up on him. His kicking game and tactical nouse are still supreme, probably even getting better, but the rest of his game has stagnated and its not like he was Carlos Spencer to begin with.
As for the incident itself, a reaction to being shoulder charged by Cox, which was in itself mere handbags but a guy whose played all in nearly 400 top flight rugby matches as a pro, should know better.
And yes, Earls and O'Mahoney were true to their jersey and spared their number 10 from a hiding. To use the venacular, the jumped on that grenade.

It's just far lesslikely to get escalated if it was dealt with on the field. Unfortunately for rog kicks are deemed far more serious than punches , so whereas the majority of those are overlooked even a non incident like this carries a 4 week entry point. I don't believe he has a record of foul play and if he doffs his cap, points to provocatoin etc should get that cut to two weeks and miss....?
If he had been yellowed for it it's highly unlikely he would've been cited, see Ashtons equally girly slap.
