ROG to be cited???
First topic message reminder :
Some speculation in Irish papers that O'Gara could be cited for that stupid kick into the back of the Edinburgh 2R's leg - didn't seem to connect very much but the intention was there and if it is deemed as foul play then he could face a ban which could keep him out of the Racing Metro game next weekend. Whether he gets a ban or not, it was a dumb thing to do whaterver provocation he got and it stood out that he was hauled off straight away by Penney.
Of course, there is the school of thought that if Munster are to have any chance of getting a BP then they would be better off with Keatley at 10 than ROG.

So you wouldve been in favour of Hore getting off free because he just intended to hook the man back?

No, no, he's sending Thomond up for undermining his own man, no?

Bity of a different scenario and I wouldn't have said that's what Hore was trying to do at all, he connects with the forearm prior to their being anything resembling a hook back, that's open to interpetation.
We will take the good with the bad, he is out for Sunday that is great news.

Apparently not, he got a longer ban than estebanez who did worse with less "provocation"

The Flannery kick was brutal. Mentalist.
Maybe kicking, like gouging, is just seen as 'part of the game' in these modern times.
What would a player need to do to get a 12 month ban, I wonder? Something involving weapons presumably.

Re: ROG to be cited???
There was a low division player banned for life for a hand off done with outstretched fingers ( you know that thing we see fairly often). Unfortunately he took the chaps eye out, and then acted like a dick in the hearing rather than saying it was all his fault but he was only trying to hook him back, so they through the book at him. He probably ate a biscuit too.
Lesson, tell them what they want to hear. And try not to blind people.
Aside from that Stevens got two years for doing coke, Dean Richards got 3 years for not injuring people, and Rabeni got 14 weeks for flicking and opponent (then 9 weeks extra for doing charity work)
They should get Blackett to guest on Judge Judy

Re: ROG to be cited???
Hmmm, I can imagine the outrage in some quarters if (e.g.) Michalak or Farrell had kicked Donncha O'Callaghan.
ROG has previous for this sort of stuff, although he was never caught/cited. My take is he has to resort to kicking people because he's a pansy with his fists.

Shame, make him available for 6 nations selection AND increases the chances of Munster getting that 4 try BP. Good news for Munster, bad for Leinster (ideally both will go through).

Re: ROG to be cited???
I think ROG's act was in the 'really stupid' category - It wasnt that dangerous but he did need a ban whatever the length
I am actually more shocked with the only 4 weeks thing for Estebanez. Ramming someone's head into the turf with your elbow looks really dangerous

Hound, to be fair, I think most of the Irish fans were "hoping" for longer. Or at the least are happy to admit that he has got off lightly.

Re: ROG to be cited???
They are entitled to reduce a ban further after all the "mitigating factors" have been taken into account if they feel that the ban is unjust at that level.
So, basically, they can do as they please it would appear.

They would have been better letting Cox loose on him if the ban was going to be as short as that!

Estebanez was also battering the £$%^ out of Saracens players the throughout the match.

Shoulder charges a Saracens player then as he comes back obviously smashed Strettle.
If that's not enough later on in the game he takes out Ashton off the ball. Ashton sin binned for a petty slap if you can call it that.

I am relieved that at least Estebanez got a ban. 4 weeks is high these days as well!
Most bans are reduced for being a good boy, showing remorse, the opposition player looked at me funny, etc.

Re: ROG to be cited???
I have to say that I find it hard to get too worked up about ROG's ban. Should have been 2 weeks by my reckoning and it wouldn't have made any difference if they had left it like that.
But, on the scale of "wrongness" this ban ranks pretty low compared to a lot we have seen this season surely?

To be fair I think the citing commissioners are consistently soft.
Hore gets 5 weeks. Estabenez gets 4 weeks. Similar incident.
Unfortunately both should probably be double the length.

ROG's obviusly used his abundant charm to get the old boy to reduce his suspension :
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2013/0118/1224328997737.html
“He (Blackett) also said I was the first Irishman he could remember pleading guilty to the charge before the event,” O’Gara noted with a laugh, “and I think that stood to me. It’s been emotional few days, deeply stressing because all the possible scenarios go through your head and at least it’s resolved now.”

Re: ROG to be cited???
One week.
Pretty daft really, who is else is sick of the the men in charge of the game?
What next no tackling somebody to hard!
Rugby is going down the route of being feeble and pathetic, bring back rucking and ban players for killing the ball in there 22 whilst defending that would speed the game up.
