Grand unveiling
Today we were welcomed to the site of the brand new "Elite Coliseum" in downtown Los Angeles, and we were informed that this will be the home of the Elite Wrestling Championship for the foreseable future. There were many "oohs" and "aahs" as we were treated to a tour of the arena, and I have to admit it was impressive.
HyperEx chief, Daniel Magnusson then held a press conference in front of a few hundred media gurus and curious fans in the gigantic lobby of the building, where he let us in on a few facts.
*Magunsson told us that right now EWF is running at a loss (obviously) with the building of a state of the art facility like this. He said that whilst money was no object for HyperEx, they are not in the habit of draining away resources for no reason, and therefore instant results will be warranted from this federation.
*He told the media that of the seven superstars that have currently signed contracts with EWF, not one has come close to receiving the maximum $100,000 per annum salary. He said the talent will have to prove their worth to the company, and that is exactly what they will be doing as soon as the doors open.
*Magnusson then admitted that new signings are imminent, but he had hoped the process would have been completed quicker so that EWF can hit the ground running. He acknowledged that they are a new fed and it will take time to build a reputation, but he is confident that once word gets out there will be no holding back.
*When questioned about expectations within the first six months, Magnusson answered that they were looking to get crowds past the thousand mark by the summer time and hopefully work out a television contract that will extend their reach into the foreign market. Magnusson said he knew there were alot more distinguished companies out there plying their trade, but EWF is destined to be a big game player, it is inevitable.
*Regarding the mysterious LA based former wrestler who has been helping behind the scenes, Magnusson was coy on details. He said this "figure" would not feauturing on live programming, just assisting in the day to day operations of EWF. Magnusson said interviews to find a permanent commissioner were "ongoing".
*Magnusson proudly announced a dealership with the V2fourm, and explained that they had offered to screen the first EWF show live on their website, in order to drum up more interest. Magnusson claimed that HyperEx would spend the "necessary" amounts in order to establish themselves in the market, and hopefully their professional attitude, along with HyperEx's global stature, would convince networks to take a punt on them.
*In his final statement, Magnusson teased that EWF would be kicking off with a "bang". He told the audience that the Elite Coliseum has been booked out for a "two day period" at the beginning of February, fuelling the fire that there is a special event planned for the birth of this new promotion.
Details are obviously still sketchy but little things are slowly falling back into place, catching the interest of the casual fan. The arena is ready, the roster is nearly ready and by the sounds of it, the first event is planned. HyperEx seem to have most bases covered, those of us in the business just cannot wait to see what they have in store.
As ever, keep tuned in, because big news is expected.
