Racing Metro fail in Sexton and Carter bids

Money cant buy you love, or even sex(ton) (so just what did Saracens use to get Billy Vunipola to join?)
Sounds like the Sexton deal, as expected, was more a case of his agent trying to force negotiations than anything else.
They do need a glamour half half though. Cipriani?

Lorenzetti's big-spending Racing Metro have already secured Soane Tonga'uiha, Juandre Kruger and Brian Mujati ahead of next season but they have missed out on Carter and Sexton. Talking to Sport 365 about Carter, Lorenzetti said the fly-half "will perhaps do a short stint in Japan" and that "he won't come to Europe".
Racing have also been linked with Sexton, but that move does not appear to be on the cards. "The Irish are the Irish. They're very attached to their homeland," Lorenzetti said. "They often have a strategy of blowing their own trumpet and using other clubs, notably the French, who are renowned for paying well, to raise the stakes, up the bidding and better negotiate their contracts in Ireland. If I have helped Sexton to better negotiate his contract, then why not? The chances of Sexton coming to France are tiny and to Racing ever more so."

It is pretty amazing the ambition and spending power of the French clubs, but surely, all these glossy overseas players is going the have an impact upon the numbers of French qualified players playing top 14 footy and impact the national side?

Not if they stay in Ireland or go to Japan.
The advantage the French have is theres 14 clubs playing top level rugby, and 6/7 in the HC every year plus a strong professional second division.
Most sides still have about 10 starting Frogs...even Toulon had 9 in the first XV this in their last game.
Its some way from being a major crisis. Theres the Jiff system as well ( I think it sets a percentage of players that have to be homegrown in the squad?)

Oh dear...I was hoping to hear how many promising French players sit and get fat on the bench while foreign mercenaries play in their place. How many French teams have sugar daddies?

Racing are getting ambitious,
Carter, Sexton, they are really going to be another Toulon, full of stars.
French are introduning a ruling that a certain number have to be French, and increasing it each year, so don't think national team will be effected.
Luckly at the minute that Provinces can match players ambitions and anyone playing for Leinster, Munster and Ulster have as good a chance of winning a H-cup, as they would at any top teams in England and France.
How the H-cup gets reformated could have a bearing on this though.
