Team Marky
Lord Azzy wrote:The task:
I want you to present to me a vision. A vision of what football really means to you. And to do that, I'm giving you £125m to spend.
With that £125m, I want you to buy a team of 18 footballers, using their TM values as of 25 January 2012 (prepare now but check the values don't go up when you submit). For this 18-man squad, I want you to provide a starting XI, and a briefing on how you want them to play. Not tactics as such, but I want you to inspire the players with a vision for how you want them to play the game.
Now, to help you, I am going to offer you the chance to purchase a manager. You can have another £25m for this - anything you don't spend can be put towards your squad purchases. The manager will be the person who will carry out your vision, who will put it into practice and get the players playing the way you want them to. Not to say that you're choosing the manager's vision of course, but if your vision is of lumping it to Andy Carroll, don't choose Wenger! Manager prices are as follows:
Pep Guardiola - £25m
Jose Mourinho - £25m
Sir Alex Ferguson - £25m
Roberto Mancini - £20m
Arsene Wenger - £20m
Guus Hiddink - £17.5m
Tito Vilanova - £17.5m
Jupp Heynckes - £16.5m
Andre Villas-Boas - £15m
Jürgen Klopp - £15m
Massimiliano Allegri - £15m
Marcelo Bielsa - £13.5m
David Moyes - £13.5m
Diego Simeone - £12.5m
Brendan Rogers - £12.5m
Antonio Conte - £12.5m
Manuel Pellegrini - £10m
Rafael Benítez - £10m
Michael Laudrup - £8m
Chris Hughton - £5m
I will be judging this task on three aspects:
1. The starting XI, including chemistry between players (ie, they have to complement your vision)
2. The substitutes, so you don't buy any old toot to make your first team look better
3. Your vision, including whether your manager is capable of carrying it off
The team with the best XI, subs and vision will win - the prize is still to be determined. Good luck one and all!

Then lets make a start
It's literally me you and Viva, CF can get involved but highly unlikely he'll want to, and Fan isn't around for personal reasons.
Which bit would you prefer to crack on with?
Vision, manager or squad?

Some visions would be like "The Wenger way" or "The Mourinho way" or "The Guardiola way", or we go for something that hasn't really been done yet and try to use innovation to our advantage.

We could do but we'd need a pretty excellent innovation cos lets face it all 3 of them are proven to work and this wouldnt be

Which of the three would you suggest then? If we were to choose such a high profile manager?

Re: Team Marky
Personally id go down the Mourinho way he's side could always defend well which left his attackers to do the work
If want to play decent football (not Mourinho way) there plenty of choice manager wise
Laudrup/Rodgers/Klopp/Villanova

I'm working on writing something for the vision as it's about my vision, so what i'll do is post my vision and then if it's ok, get you and Viva (and possibly CF) to suggest first a manager to fit around the vision, and then the players.

Re: Team Marky
Mourinho has always had good teams and just needed to tweak them and leaves them team just as they need rebuilding. I wouldn't be looking at him to make our vision come through as it takes patience which is something I yet too see from him.

Re: Team Marky
"A vision of what football really means to you"
To me, Football has always been about winning. Naturally it would be ideal to win playing a beautiful passing game, but unless you're Barcelona you have to compromise somewhere to be successful. At Chelsea, Roman's vision was to win with beautiful football, but to win the prize that eluded him the longest, his side showed significant levels of grit, determination and real hard work.
As a Crawley Town fan, my ideal vision has always been to play a passing game rather than a long ball game, but with winning being the main focus rather than style. It would be an old fashioned vision, with a 4-4-2 formation, pacy tricky wingers and good passers of the ball, both box to box style, in the centre of midfield. A good strike partnership upfront, maybe one with the ability to hold up play and a quicker strike partner to make runs in behind and get shots in on goal. That has actually happened at times at Crawley Town, honest! But my vision would be similar tactics on a bigger scale and at a higher level.
Thoughts?

When I wrote about the front two, Adebayor and Defoe popped into my head as they are playing well together at Spurs this season.

Re: Team Marky
This seems realistic enough and I'd have gone with something like that. You can't expect to play Barca style with our budget. We'd like to play good football but have to mix it up with the longer balls.

Re: Team Marky
Personally under that id choose David Moyes as manager they play 4-4-1-1 with lumping the ball to Fellaini so can just turn that into 4-4-2

I've kept Sir Alex Ferguson on the list as Man U do play 4-4-2 regularly, would be an expensive choice though.

Does it have to be a manager on that list? could always try and use Tony Pulis he plays 4-4-2 with lumping it everynow and again

Re: Team Marky
I know i'm the captain but if both of you think Moyes is the man, then i'm very happy to go with Moyes. Either of you able to write something in regards to why Moyes is ideal?
I've got to go to work now, have been at work all morning but now I have to go to a job! If we're decided on that vision and on David Moyes as manager, feel free to have a scan of TM and suggest players for our first XI for a 4-4-2. Choose 2/3 each for each position and we can narrow it down from there.

Re: Team Marky
I don't mind writing it up, what manager would you go with Marky? Thing with SAF is how long does he have left? Enough time to complete our vision?
Bull I like Klopp and if it wasn't for the way we going I'd pick him but I think Moyes suits us better.
I like Pullis makes his teams hard to beat but I feel we would be associated with hoof ball even if try and mix our Football up. At least with Moyes we know he is capable of playing both styles.

Re: Team Marky
Not sure on TM prices, but the four strikers to choose from would be Adebayor, Defoe, Hernandez and Lukaku. Got to be 4 strikers in a squad of 18 IMO.
Actually going offline now, be on later. Suggest whoever you like while considering the budget.
Goalkeepers can be old, keepers like Brad Friedel would be very cheap on TM but still more than capable.

Re: Team Marky
Yeah I'll do that most likely this evening as I won't have to watch over my shoulder.
If you want 4 strikers I suggest that one of the four should be more of a SS, creative player who can link the ball between midfield and strikers. If we're going with box to box midfielders they won't be as good creatively. We need the balance and options to tweak our formation depending on opposition.

One of us does keepers and defenders the other does midfield and strikers, I don't mind doing either.
Bull have a look at some bargain players for us.
