Boxing Podcast 22nd Jan with Frank Maloney
Hi all,
Following on from the last podcast with Alex Arthur ( http://v2journal.com/3/post/2013/01/january-10th-2013.html ), I am pleased to say that joining Paul, 88Chris and myself tonight is Frank Maloney.
During the interview, Frank told us about nearly quitting promoting altogether, the future for David Price and his views on the boxing scene currently. He also talks about everyones favourite topic - the Klitschko "slave" contracts.
As always, feedback is welcomed and make sure to check out the next podcast in a fortnight.
If you have a question you would like asked or discussed, you can get the team at boxing@v2journal.com

Re: Boxing Podcast 22nd Jan with Frank Maloney
so any feedback?
Personally I was quite surprised at how frank Frank was about his near breakdown. I also reckon that David Price vs Chisora is a dead cert should Price win in Feb.

I thought Price would avoid Chis like the plague (he does well at pressuring the big guys)
It's a fight Price doesn't need. Like it or not, it's a huge step up. I would love to watch this one, lets hope it comes off. I see a Helenius/Vitali version of Chis winning this one.
And even if Price wins, it'll be good to see how he copes when he's forced out of his comfort zone by a better (younger) version of that 41yo he demolished recently.

Really enjoyed last night, and would be happy to have him on in a couple of months time to see where he feels Price is then.

Now that you have interviewed Maloney, do you think you are a step closer to Price? There were some good questions put forward the other week.

I'm going to agree with Truss, Maloney has proven himself to be rather vile in my eyes.

He has made one ill considered comment, as I’m sure we all have at some point in our past. Personally don’t think the bloke deserves our eternal damnation for that. Maloney has also been very good to this forum in the past so am willing to forgive him.

I'm not going to stick my tongue down his trousers because he'll give interviews Rowley - I wouldn't consider his comment as his "one" ill considered comment. He makes them rather often.

No relevance here. It was me, Adam and Hampo who did the interview, not Alex.

Aye you were taking it rather than giving it?

From listening to the interview it didn't sound like anyone was, my point was that just because he gives us his time it doesn't mean I have to automatically show him any sort of respect unless I choose to.

Aye, was only joking, Jabby; looks like my humour is too refined and subtle for some on here.........
Or it could just be that I'm howlingly UNfunny, I guess!

Oh I got it, I'm just too used to "defence mode" I guess.

Don't recall anyone saying you had to. You offered an opinion on him, I offered my counter opinion. End of the day though he is a boxing promoter and we are a boxing forum. I don't care much for King or Arum but if I thought there was even half a chance of getting either of them to take part in one of the podcasts I would snatch their arms off.

Re: Boxing Podcast 22nd Jan with Frank Maloney
Anyway, I enjoyed having that quick chat with Maloney; although we didn't get that long with him, he gave answers with good depth and it's nice that he seems genuinely pleased and happy to do this kind of stuff for v2. Like Adam, I was a wee bit surprised at how open he was about his personal issues, but I'd always rather have an interviewee who pulls no punches and doesn't tap dance around those issues than someone who offers up the same old stock answers.

I agree completely Chris, makes the conversation go so much more smoothly if they're happy to discuss everything. I'd like to get Billy Joe Saunders on and discuss his hatred of Eubank JR.
