Is Frank Maloney finished???
After watching his rendition of Justin Timberlake's "Cry me a river" on Saturday night it surely looks like the final curtain has been closed on this annoying little man.
From wearing ridiculous Union Jack suits to wearing the face of a broken man......is this the finishing line for Frank?
His recent stable over the past 10 years has been carp really, with his fighters never really being stand out. His claim to fame being the promoter of Lennox Lewis.
The moment I'll never forget is when he was interviewed on here and he blasted Frank Warren for setting up Boxnation.......then gets kicked of Sky and goes running to Boxnation with Price haha.
Anyway, little midget man (as Fury would say) is he a goner?
Cheers
Dee

Saturday night wasn't something I enjoyed watching, he's had a tough time since the Sutherland incident and I think Saturday was close to tipping him over the edge.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
The undercard for Saturday was worse than a channel 5 card. He was doing an ok-ish job with Price up until Thompson dismantled him in 2. Now Price is at the bottom of the food chain and looks nothing like the beast he once did look like, its hard to see where Frank goes from here. He was never really a big time promoter anyway, normally handling one decent fighter at any one time. Lewis, Munroe, Price, even Martin Lindsey had high stock at the time Maloney had him on the books.
But as with 99% of the others, they have fallen as they step up.
He should call it a day if this is how he is going to react to his fighters getting beat. It cant be good for his ticker. Imagine Frank Warren crying if Cleverly got beat by Kolalev.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
I think the crying was more to do with the interviewer bringing up Sutherlands suicide tbf reborn, there were no tears until that point

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
Maloney has actually been a supporter of BoxNation and has stated that he hopes it succeeds from the off, I believe. He said as much when he did a Q&A for v2 about eighteen months back.
Anyway, he's having a 'mare just now, that's for sure.
His stable is thin to say the least below Price, and Price himself has fallen from hot Heavyweight prospect to accident-prone joke figure (not a truly accurate description but you can bet your bottom dollar it's one which will be felt in many cynical quarters) in the space of months. I know that Maloney, in a stark contrast to the Warrens of this world, has always been a character who likes to wear his heart on his sleeve and has never been afraid to show that 'human' side, but even so, for a promoter to be in such clear and severe distress after seeing his fighter lose, while showing that he genuinely cares, is still a sure-fire sign that he knows he's in dire straits right now, you'd think.
What I find interesting is that he says he "was never keen on this immediate rematch" in the first place. If that's the case, then considering his future as a top promoter falls so heavily on Price's fortunes, you'd think he'd have put his foot down and taken Price down a different rebuilding route, given how costly a second defeat on the spin will now be. I guess it adds fuel to the fire suggesting that his promotional company is in a spot of financial bother and that, as a result, he's been forced to roll the dice against his will and take chances he'd rather not.
Like Hampo, I found it hard viewing the other night and I feel sympathy for him as I would for anyone in that situation. I hope he can bounce back and at least go out on a reasonably high note, but the future looks a little bleak right now.

I didnt catch the interview, just seen a pic of him crying on Twitter. But why in the hell did the interview bring up Sutherland??? The fight was about Price and Thompson.
Can anyone explain what brought his name into the conversation?

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
I don't recall the interviewer mentioning Sutherland, mate. Unless Maloney was moved to tears in two separate interviews! The interviewer for BoxNation asked Maloney about his future, to which Frank replied that he'll continue to be loyal to Price if he wishes to box on, but also that he'll consider packing it in if Price decides to do the same. He was then asked how he was feeling in himself, with the interviewer pointing out that it was common knowledge that the first defeat to Thompson had put not only Maloney's promotional standing through the ringer, but also his health, which has been shaky for a few years now. That was the point at which Maloney found the going a bit too tough and started to well up.

Sorry Chris you're right, it was about his health, I think it might of been buncey who said he had a heart attack not too long back, that'll teach me for trying to listen to an interview after one too many!!

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
With the long running rumours Maloney is on the brink of bankruptcy the defeat of Price must have been an awful blow. When the rematch was called it looked to me that financial problems may have been forcing Maloney to chase the rematch with Thompson. Did Frank have the dough to bankroll a few easy rebuilding fights for Price?
I don't feel any sympathy for Maloney and he has no right to be crying over Darren given some of the things he has said and done to the Sutherland family. I'm one who will be glad to see the back of him.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
Well on that basis I think he should call it a day. He always seems to let the occasions get to him anyway, sitting by the corner. After the McDermot vs Fury fight you could also see him keeling over.
Hes quite a small fish in a big pond at the minute and having one good domestic fighter in Price isnt enough to save him. And I certainly cant see any decent prospect signing with him as he doesnt have anything to offer really.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
maloney could keep on, he matched price well, and the step up didn't seem that threatening, a 40+ year old fringe world class fighter. theres only so much a promoter can do, he got the rematch even though thompson didn't really need it, price just isn't good enough at the moment, and needs a lot of work.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
Yea Eddy, but with Price now 30, having got embarrased twice by the "fringe world class 41 year old" as you say. He is in for a dark few months, he knows now that his aura of invincability that once rested on his shoulders is gone. It is unfair to write him off but judging on his whole demenour on Saturday he reeks of a fighter who is not confident.
He can go back to fighting chumps, but the step up will have to come up again and as soon as it does he will be well into his 30's and my prediction is it will be too late.
That being said, Maloney wont be able to make much money off the back of Price anymore as who is going to watch him beating up no hopers? There is no way he will be headlining the echo arena anytime soon and as Frank is a "business" man, the investment in Price has blew up in his face and it will cost him an arm and a leg to rebuild any sort of structure to make Price big money. I just feel its too late for both of them.

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
I think he can rebuild Price. Anderson Silva got KOd that night, which moved the Price knockout to a footnote for casual fans. What this did though was show that Price is at least two years from money fights, does Maloney have two years?

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
I would actually take Chisora to beat Price now. Price's inside fighting is woeful and his jab is non existant. Chisora would just charge him and Price would defo gas out as Chisora has a high workrate.
Sad state of affairs when you start thinking about Chisora beating someone.

I seem to recall Bruno's (at the time) wife spitting in Maloney's face after he made a cheap shot remark aimed at Frank in the build up to their 1993 fight.

I've got a lot of respect for Maloney.....Takes a lot of guts coming out in the public spotlight...must be bad enough doing it in private........Especially in the ignorant society we are living in...
Makes you wonder just how miserable his life has been all these years living a lie....
One can only hope he finds peace and happiness in the time he has left...

It's whether or not she does the celebrity circuit like Bruce/Caitlin Jenner and completely undermines the hard work done by other transgender people who've tried hard to be taken seriously in their chosen professions

Could Bruce do anything but the celebrity route though?

One could suggest by going on shows like CBB that Maloney is opening the eyes of people that don't understand the problems and reality of people who's gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex...

Re: Is Frank Maloney finished???
I hope he does fold, no loss to boxing. The Sutherland case, and franks bleeding heart never sat right with me either. He saddled that kid with so much debt, maybe it's the done thing with prospects. You invest in them, and let them amass a huge IOU, mount the pressure on them, that they have to succeed to get out of debt. Maybe that's the way boxing is, but it seems sh1ty to me.
Couldn't care less about his gender, he can use it as a pension plan sell stories and do the celebrity fish bowl circuit.
