Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
That's quite a win Dancevic had over Granollers.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
It's not even Spain's B team though which is very surprising although you'd have to expect Granollers to beat Dancevic instead of getting mashed by him. To answer the question, I'm not watching any of it. None of the matches are particularly inspiring.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
I had expected Raonic to win, but Dancevic win is very interesting. This is what I remember from several years ago...
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Da/F/Frank-Dancevic.aspx?t=pa&y=2007&m=s&e=421#
He played very well.
Djokovic has corrected his h2h with Rochus.

SUI push the doubles rubber against CZE to a deciding fifth set by winning the fourth set TB.

Wawrinka seems to have gained much-needed confidence from his AO match. Nice volley and soft hands.

That 5th set laverfan mentioned at 4pm. It's still going at 17-17.

On this board, it should be 100% no unless one of the 'big four' are playing.

Some players always seem to get embroiled in long five setters; Stan and Isner come to mind.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
Very exciting 5th set with Warwinka bravely saving a bunch of match points, one with an ace, another with a brave second serve to the corner, another backhand winner down the line, a load more....but the Czechs kept creating the chances.
Only a shame to end with a double.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
Shame someone had to lose...Chiudinelli isnt teally of the same level as the others, even Rosol, but he did pretty well to hang in. After 7hrs anything could happen.
So Stan is now meant to play the final rubber tomorrow given Switz are 1-2 down? After 7 hrs...even at doubles...he'd be dead on his feet. Infact all 4 players today are their country's leading players...both captains have a headache selection for tomorrow.

Paging Mr Federer......
The Czechs have Vesely (or whatever his name is) in reserve but who do the Swiss have?
A quick Wiki has told me it is 289th ranked Henri Joona Julius Laaksonen.

Yes lydian feel for stan, to me he lacks the confidence in himself to finish these big matches. Maybe this will be a difficult learning experience for him. I love davis cup some of the best matches I have ever seen has been in davis cup Roddick v. Gonzalez, wilander v. mac, and mac v. becker all come to mind.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
Watched the Berdych v Wawrinka. The 4th set TB was close, and I was hoping for a fifth set, but Berdych did well to avoid a fifth, which like the doubles fifth set, does not have a TB.
Laaksonen reminds me a bit of another SUI player in 1998-99. He came back from a bagel against Veseley, who played the Boys final at AO recently.

Looking forward to that tie. I am working that weekend (what a shock) but will follow the scores.
I am interested to see who Smith will pick as there is no established team for doubles and singles is up for grabs too.
Fleming and Marray for doubles?
Baker and Ward for singles or maybe Evans given his relatively good recent DC record?
Would be good to have one of the young ones in reserve. Broady or Golding if he is back to full health by then.

I hope Broady gets a shout. Pretty handy doubles player too. It gives Smith some flexibility with who he picks for the ties.
How on earth were you persuaded to work over the weekend?? It's crime I tells ya!

Persuaded implies choice. I wasn't quick enough to get out of it. Will make damn sure I am off for the weekend of the September tie - hope it is somewhere down south.
Agree re Broady. Good for the young players to get the experience too - Murray was 17 when he first played DC.

Unfortunately in the South we poo out of having a decent indoor arena. The Brighton Centre would be brilliant!
I think Broady deserves a chance. Bring in Marray. Broady could take the pressure off Ward or Evans or Baker whomever the singles choices are if Britain are in in a jam

Your choices sound good. We actually have a few reasonably strong doubles players available. If we could just get a couple of top 100 singles players to back Murray we could have a decent team.

Re: Is anyone watching Tennis today?
We do. I think in Marray/Fleming you have one strong solid doubles player. I think with Broady with the energy that comes with exuberance and youth would mean no battle scars from previous DC encounters. Shame Oli wasn't fit as he would've been my pick. Probably I would stick with Baker, Ward, Broady and Fleming.
Bring the the DC to Brighton!!

We should start a campaign!
DC is a great test for young players as well. I read an interview with Will Murray in which he said that he know Andy M. would be able to cope with anything after seeing him unworried by being booed by the crowd at the Israel tie when he was young. DC, especially abroad, is great for 5 set experience and toughening up.

By all means bring it to Brighton!
I think if Broady/Golding/Edmund are talented enough to progress to the next level, I think the LTA should help part fund a top coach to help them move up the rankings. Did it with Gilbert for Murray. Why not these guys? It is all good getting the DC experience, but they have to wait until Wimbledon for a wild card and they don't have much match experience with the top players.

Kind of agree. The LTA should part fund a good coach but it doesn't need to be a huge name at this stage. It could be a bit overwhelming.
They need to make sure they take advantage of every opportunity such as practice with big names at tournaments and Miami training blocks with Murray. I think that was a bit of an eye opener for Golding in December.......................

Speaking of which the LTA have just put a picture of a certain tall scotsman posing for photos at Queens Club today.
Any GB players with ambition should be at the NTC and available for practice sessions.
