Generally happy.

The Strahan vs Sapp thing seems to be the main talking point... think the panel couldn't ever think of putting every single 1st time entrant in one first ballot. Its tough to pick one, but I think Strahan may have been the better choice because Sapp is somewhat of an irritation despite his quality!

I watched the announcement live as I stumbled across it on Gamepass. Loved Ogden's interview... the prototypical tackle during my time following the game.

His personality has nothing to do with the hall of fame. Sapp re-defined the defensive tackle position and deserves his place.

Deserves it yes, but whether on a first year ballot is the question. In some senses i'm surprised voters didn't take his personality into the equation and take Strahan in year 1.

Yeah I kinda thought they mightve taken into account that Sapp is a massive ***hole since he retired. Interesting to see if T.O gets off as well.

Brett Favre is a bit of a muppet too, but still no doubt he is going in first ballot

Yeah but Brett Favre is a Ray Lewis/Peyton Manning/Tom Brady like candidate. Sapp not quite on that level which is why people had him and Strahan as bubble guys.

Great to see Carter finally in. Shouldve been in a while ago.

Sapp was completely dominant and that's what matters. Four times and all-pro and in both the all-90s and all-2000s teams.

Nobodies denying that. However people werent sure what extent off the field issues would be taken into account.

We get Sapp was great.

But you don't seem to get that personality has nothing to do with whether you get into the Hall. It's about how dominant you were as a player.

Yes, the impact of it was what people wondered about it.

We get it, Sapp was a Bucs player, we'll stop attacking his greatness now Rolling Eyes

No Art Modell, if only Baltimore hadn't won would have been a great weekend for Browns fans.

At the risk of reigniting the Sapp v Strahan debate..... I'd have gone with Strahan - NFL sack record, 7 Pro Bowls, 4 times an All-Pro, NFL 2000s All-decade team and of course a Super Bowl.

In terms of their stats and achievements, the two guys are virtually inseparable. You almost have to either vote both in at the same time or neither. If you're going to vote just one in then it's got to be something intangible that seprates them... like one being a **** and the other seemingly being an OK guy. I'd take the one that isn't a ****.

Difference is that Sapp did it all playing inside. Much harder to get those kind of numbers when you're not on the edge.

But I'm biased so...

Sapp redefined his position and was a physical freak. The guy run a faster 40 time then Anquan Boldin and Jerry Rice! At DT he had 96.5 sacks. As far as I know he is the second in all time sacks for Defensive tackles, Michael Strahan was a super defensive end, but people will look for the next Sapp for years to come, there will be a fair few guys who could probably equal Strahan in terms of impact.

The Bucs defence had a sack for 69 consecutive games. A lot of that was down to Sapp (Simeon Rice to a lesser extent). The Giants apss rush was still productive without Strahan. Does Strahan deserve to go in, absolutely he may wait another year or two though. The only thing stopping Sapp was his own idiocy.
