I think it's a massive pile of backside. Though the other person in the frame is Solis, so it'll be interesting to see who gets it: The perennial contender who will never be champion or the the wasted talent who is too much of a lardball to be champ.
Which one of Povetkin & Klitschko said No?

Might as well get Audley Harrison in. Or let Lennox Lewis make a comeback!

You sound liek Gordy mate, if you suggest Calzaghe could beat him I really will start to have suspicions.

A fight against a fit Solis would be interesting. Looks like this fight is a warm up for the defence against povetkin.

Pretty rubbish fight. Dont know how Oquendo has managed to be ranked 5 by the WBA. He does seem to get jobbed on a fairly regular basis though.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
Was never really convinced by all this 'it's on!' talk coming from Povetkin and his camp, but even so, I wasn't expecting this.
I appreciate that there aren't that many viable, attractive options out there for Wladimir, but even so, this is a stinker of a Heavyweight title fight. It's easy to forget that, at almost thirty-seven, Wladimir probably doesn't want to have too many long lay offs and so will take 'keep busy' fights, but personally I'd prefer to forego this kind of bout and simply wait for a better option to come up.
Mind you, any fight Wladimir signs for is likely to be trashed unless it's Haye (who clearly prefers the Vitali route these days after his humbling at Wladimir's hands), Povetkin (who just doesn't seem all that up for it) or Price (not ready and won't be for a little while yet).
Solis has been nothing short of a disgrace since he turned professional - bloody annoying that one of the very few men with the raw talent and speed to trouble the brothers is such a slob.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
I know that he's a true pro and doesn't take anyone lightly or come in out of shape but he must really struggle to keep finding the hinge trout prepare fully for these types of fights
Whether we like it or not Haye hasn't said one thing about fighting Wald as e knows he can't win and Povetkin has had his chance for 3 years now and has never accepted the challenge. Why would Wlad dodge Povetkin, he almost got stopped by Hick and has looked less than impressive against sub-par opposition
Adamek might have been a fight they were looking at untill Cunningham beat him, Price doenst want him at this moment, wilder has barely fought a top 100 heavyweight, Fury's latest opponent's aren't much better than Fres', Arreola/Solis are still having trouble getting into shape
The heavyweight division is so poor that Wlad should just retire now but he knows he can fight the current heaves for a couple years getting millions with every fight so I can see why he carries on

Seems like a fight with Solis for April fell through and Wlad is just looking for an opponent now. Bryant Jennings has also thrown his name out there looking for a fight.
He should fight Adamek or Pulev.

wlad is asking for a voluntary defense (fres) before his mandatory (povetkin) so povetkin isnt the one holding the fight up. what a poor choice in oppponent, fres has lost to most of the top people he has fought, and is getting on now. there are at least 6-7 other fights there for him, all better than this.

Who could he fight? he went after Solis first who pulled out. Price and Fury won't go near him yet. It's tough for him to get a fight because most of the other fighters duck him.

According to Dan Rafael on twitter, he has spoken to the Klitschko camp and Fres Oquendo isn't under consideration as Wladimir's opponent for a fight in April.

Tbh Ghosty from the sounds of it he was well and truly shafted by the judges and deserved the win. Also he deserved wins against Toney, Bryd and McCall and Holyfield was extremely close

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
If it is Oquendo then its a very sad state of affairs.
Oquendo lost to Mormeck in 2010 and Mormeck went onto be dreadful against Wlad.
People can say that the division isn't strong, but the reality is that there are alot better fighters than Oquendo out there.

Judges weren't needed when he was Ko'd by John Ruiz. (in 2004)
Are you working for Mr.Oquendo?

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
No I'm a realist and realise that when looking at a record of a fighter a lose or a win might not be deserved as almost every boxer these days have losses or wins they didn't deserve
Ghosty said he lost to Mormeck and I meerly said that he was unlucky to get the loss as I doubt anyone on here actually watched the fight (I didn't but heard plenty of reports), its not hard to understand

Yeah, I see where you are coming from and you are right - fighters records can be misleading. Take, Tony Pace for example.
I will say that Fres Oquendo has no business being in a title fight, in 2013, as there are better fighters out there. Wlad vs Oquendo shouldn't happen and I believe it hasn't been confirmed - so boxing fans will be spared.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
Completely agree, my first post I said he might as well retire but the reality is he can blow away these opponents for £10mil a fight so can't see him retrieving anytime soon and while Fres is awful, there isnt really anyone who stands out as a leading candidate for this fight

granted behind the scenes you dont know who refused the fight but id say the following would be much more entertaining fights and give wlad a decent challenge.
1. puluev
2. boystov
3. bryan jennings
4. helenius
5. cunningham
6. povetkin
7. banks (or mitchell or wilder, on another top american)

jennings and cunningham both said they wanted the fight, the americans probably not so much, especially banks with his close ties. but the others i think would if the money was right, or a least one of them would.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
Wlad would get ripped for fighting Jennings, hasn't fought anyone of note and still a novice really, Cunningham would also be a fail, marginally better than Oquendo really.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
oquendo possibly had a very weak claim to a world title shot, about 6 years ago, but it baffles me why wlad would take an opponent like this, it doesnt give the impression he wants to carve a legacy, maybe there not atgs but there a lot better than fres.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
I think thats to be commended though - he always fights his mandatories. The problem here is the champion is going to the challengers and trying to come and get them to fight him. Something really wrong with that picture.
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs........
there is, but i dont think they do all they could to make sure the best fight them, home advantages, rematch clauses with each brother dont help- but them been so much better than everyone anyway they dont need them.

Home advantage? Vitali went to Poland to fight Adamek (Adamek is polish) and they have fought in Switzerland, Austria, UK, USA, Ukraine Germany. And anyway as the world champs they can choose where they should fight, why should they have to travel to a different country so that the challenger will fight them?
The brothers are in a position where they are so good that no one wants to fight them. there's not 1 HW you could name who you would bet serious money on them beating Wlad. But I would bet serious money on Wlad beating any other HW.
Hopefully the wlad v Povetkin fight happens and then hopefully in 2014 wlad faces Price and Fury. Would also be good to see Wlad face Arreola, Solis, Chisora, Helenius and possibly a rematch with haye.

Wlad is head and shoulders above all other HWs out there. But to say no-one wants to fight him is silly. He took on this fight as easy money. All ex champs have done that. More will do so in future.

Remember this is a fight to keep him busy until he fights Povetkin in the summer. But who could he face? Fury has said he will never fight him and Price is not interested yet. Helenius won't go near him and Chisora is on a 4 streak loss.

He is ranked number 5. I'm not saying he is the best but instead of saing that there are better fighters why don't you name these better fighters. And don't just pluck names out of a bag name fighters who would be willing to fight (and lose).

He's ranked number 5 by an alphabelt organisation, he is no where near being the 5th best heavyweight in the world. Hell Chisora would be a better opponent than this guy.

if Wlad fought Chisora next he would get slaughtered and people would say he is fighting a 20 fight guy who is on a 4 fight losing streak.
Anyway why don't you say some names of who he should fight?

Do you really think Wlad is going to fight his trainer Banks?
