The times they are a changing.
He'd be a good fella for Wales to call on but with time difference and logistics it makes it hard for him to be a realistic contender.

Re: Gareth Delve - Rebels Capatin
I havent understood why he didn't get more Wales caps when he was at Bath or Gloucester, he has always been a good player.
Apparently as a youngster at Bath during a training ground spat he knocked Borthwick down with a single punch. presumably opening up the cut on Borthers' nose which hasnt healed since...

He was a bit unfortunate really. At the time we had Andy Powell, Alix Popham, and Gareth Delve all playing good rugby and trying to compete with the likes of Daf Jones, Charvis, Johnathan Thomas (and Quinnell for a while). And it was a case of having to show up well when they had their chance with the international side. I think Delve tended to pick up knocks when he was with the squad, or before the squads were picked. And then by the time he was really looking good the whole play in Wales or sod off attitude was being adopted.

to be fair he hasn't been treated the best by the welsh management. believe he paid for his our flight home to join up with the welsh squad pre world cup. but didn't really have a look in- things were made worse when pressed gatland told the national press delve had a leg injury. however delve privately disputed this and thought it was a cop out by gatland. so he ended up playing on the melbourne rebels uk tour instead. personally i think he was been under used by wales.

That doesn't sound like Gats using injury or fitness as an excuse to avoid feilding someone who dared question him.

Delve was so bloomin injury plagued at the start of his career with bath... he was never on the pitch, after moving to Gloucester his form warranted more picks but being out of Wales he was down the pecking order.

Being out of Wales (by a few minutes) didn't really matter, he was one of the few who thought for themselves and would dispute the tripe spewed by the welsh management!!
He basically threw himself at the Blues, according to his dad he all but signed himself, all he asked was the kind of pay they had Chris Czekai on, but they offered him an amount that wouldve made him the bottom 20% of earners, in a team that involves Sweeney!!!!!!
Delve wouldve been a great servant to welsh rugby, but is a victim of more mismanagement, similar to the garbage that has been the Hook, Brew and Ruddock messes!!

I have banged the Delve drum for years, when he was at Bath he had quite a few injuries, when he was at Gloucester he was quite a cukt hero with the Shed and carried Gloucester single handedly at times.
He never seemed to be in favour with any of the previous Management and was like Biggar only ever seemed to ge tpicked for the Friday night AI games then dropped.

Blues,
I have many friends at the Shed and one thing they can confirm is that he was definately not a yes man which is why (or probably) why he didn't get as many caps as he should have.

Bedford
Ive trained with him and his old man (years ago now mind) and they were definatley opinionated!! But there is a reason he bacame Glos and now Melbourne cult hero!!
There was an issue a few years ago about the legality of his training and supplementation (mainly because of his dad) and I thought maybe that was working against him but that can't be an excuse forever, and he is exactly what we were missing in the last 3 years, bulk AND dynamism in the back row!

Re: Gareth Delve - Rebels Capatin
Can confirm what blues said - delve did everything he possibly could to sign for the blues. Not playing in wales or a lack of welsh caps is something you can't blame on delve. Probably one of the most down to earth honest pro rugby players your likely to meet.

Thats the problem, he is too down to earth and too honest, fans love him wherever he goes mind!!!
PS his old man is a beast, or at least was the last time I saw him (when he was throwing himself at the blues)
Also heard a rumour, unconfirmed, that when in negotiations he used the term 'virgin with her knickers down' and 'on a plate' not to mention 'What the fudge is wrong with you'
He was apparently furious afterwards, and more than happy to leave the UK!!!

Re: Gareth Delve - Rebels Capatin
It is a shame about Delve. If he is good enough, has character enough, and leadership enough to be selected captain of his Super Rugby franchise, that means a lot. Wales need on-field leadership, especially now when things are not going well. That is something he provides. If he ever decides to leave Australia and come back to the UK, I would be happy to have him at Saints.
