Nice
Not much luck hidden amongst a thread....
Any recommendations for a tidy place in Nice to watch the game on Saturday (W -v- F) would be appreciated.
Thinking somewhere with good wine, rugby fanatics and decent food after...not a Blue Oyster Bar.

That rules out Elton John's yacht then.
You're not far from Monte Carlo, why not pop over on the Corniche. Bet you'll find some rugby fans there.

bentley? in these lanes. no thank you, i will stick to my RR sport...
i was just putting it out there out of chance. part of the excitement is going, wandering, drinking and chatting and staying put at kick off....pot luck.

Right, perhaps you can help me. Why bother with a Range Rover Sport? Its not sporty, so why cut down on the room and comfort of a Range Rover?

Re: Nice
only been in Nice once in me life.
most french bars will show the french game but probably not the other ones. however there is place called Sports 11 which is allegedly the biggest sport bar on the cote d'azur (on the promenade des anglais)
there is a couple of (so called oirish) pubs there and they are your best bet to watch live rugby
one of them called ma-noland (think there is 2 of them in Nice) close to the port
http://www.ma-nolans.com/whats-on/live-sports.html
another one is called paddy's in the old town of Nice.

Re: Nice
mate, i was being facetious...I have a Poopie car and Poopie shoes but live in a nice (rhymes with mice) place and happen to be going to a nice (rhymes with mice) place, Nice (rhymes with cheese), not Neath, for the weekend and the rugby happens to be on. happy days.

many thanks whocares.
If I didn't understand my posh English girlfriend's accent properly, and we are indeed going to Neath for the weekend, any suggestions there?

I'd recommend heading down the road to Antibes. Pub called the blue lady shows rugby matches.
Massive expat community. Always a great atmosphere. Nice little town too.

Neath wont interest you unless you're 14 and have liver failure.

Re: Nice
Gower - great to see you back mate - Nice or Neath you'll be fine - In fact after about 9 pints of Stella they are very similar - NO! make that 15 pints -
Stay away from Antibes or you'll be drawn into their beautiful bijou Picasso museum and you will get overly cultured and miss the game - Might not be a bad idea actually.
Best advice, small cobbled street in Nice and a local cafe/bar - you'll have great le banter and you'll enjoy it - Aurovoir

Re: Nice
ruby...no chance of too much culture mate, recently had a long weekend in amsterdam during museum night. no more museums for me for a year. at least.
i googled waynes and the irish bars, but TBH, i can get that on wind street or at a push, in neath! I pictured a small cobbled street, as you say, and a local cafe/bar with loads of local rugby lunatics and loads of decent local red wine...

Re: Nice
why commiserations mate? she's fecking awesome!
she likes red wine, speaks french and likes french food....she just doesn't like rugby! in a local bar full of atmos though, she is secretly quite excited.
and we get to go hiking in them there hills to clear the head the next day, ready for a session in cannes sunday night. perfect.

i am quite surprised though ruby, that no facetious pedants, of which there are numerous on here, pointed out the fact that Nice, not Neath, doesn't rhyme with cheese. and neither does Neath.

i'd rather hammer a rusty nail through the larger of my two testicles than go to a jazz bar. unless of course, there is a hidden meaning in your suggestion?

I lost my voice in a café in Pasteur, within sight of the Eiffel Tower, with a Brass band, singing Delilah, Roll out the Barrell, the Lion Sleeps Tonight, the Marseillaise and Hen Wlad fy Nhadau. What an atmosphere. What a place.
