Boxing Hall of fame - Should it just have Boxers in it?? Empty Boxing Hall of fame - Should it just have Boxers in it??

Got announcers, referees (some failed boxers) and actors in the hall of fame...and yet some great boxers can't get in.

Shouldn't the Hall of fame do just what it say's on the tin.....Boxing is where two brave people fight eachother generally for some reward..

Mills Lane...Great ref but not when he was refereeing Camacho...always had a bad night to the detriment of Hector.....A world champion boxer has a bad night he loses his title and in some cases his livelihood and to a lesser extent his legacy...as for CORTEZ and STEELE!!

Does Boxing owe Stallone.....Boxing had great fighters then who encouraged other great fighters. Stallone owes Boxing because it turne him from a soft porn star into a world movie superstar....Without Boxing there is no Rocky....

Announcing a fight or commentating is a luxurious pleasure..Most of us would do it for free for a ringside seat!! so what if you are good at it!!

Boxing is the hardest sport of all......24/7 dedication....mentally and physically......

If you reach the great heights and are a top class fighter like Don Curry Cool then you should be appreciated........

Let's appreciate those guys who deserve to be and get rid of those that don't...

Easier to be a referee, announcer and an actor.......Lot harder to work your way to the top in a Sport that is called Boxing......

If it means having more Boxers in it...let's get rid of everyone else......Without brave warriors there wouldn't be a sport!!

Stupid idea. Boxers without trainers, often would not become boxers. That alone kills this thread, sorry TRUSS.

I would not say necessarily it should be reserved to solely fighters Truss although agree that the likes of Stallone cheapen the place. However for me it would not sit right for the likes of Arcel, Dundee or Futch not to be in there as they have all made significant contributions to the sport and in assisting some of the great fighters who are ensconced in Canastota.

Can see an argument against the likes of journalists not getting a place but have no issue with promoters or trainers being in there. Take a guy like Rickard, virtually invented the concept of the mega fight. Should also not be forgotten that guys like these were instrumental in legalizing the sport in the early days of the 20th century. For me that is comfortably as significant a contribution as Ingemar Johansen ever did.

"Stupid idea"....The usual long and lengthy opinion..........

Good points Rowley but for me there are too many top quality types that miss out probably because they aren't as hip as Stallone.....Buffer....

End of the day there is no Boxing without Boxers they are the most important asset and should come first........

Appreciate your contribution though,..

Not getting at you mate, sorry to be harsh, you're a fine poster TRUSS, and it's a fair question. Respect to you good sir. I just feel that without trainers boxers would not have the carers they do. Therefore trainers are required.

There are trainers with vast amount of talent that have made HOF boxers out of a good boxer,no question.
But the HOF should be reserved for the boxers as they have the talent in addition to courage. They put their lives on the line in the name of public entertainment.

To cloud the issue a little further though what would you do with a guy like Jack Blackburn? Fine fighter in his own respect but perhaps a little short of true hall of fame caliber but then went on to be an outstanding trainer who was instrumental in making Joe Louis the fighter he was. Surely his exploits as a trainer have to count towards making a borderline fighter into a guy worthy of his place.

There plenty of people involved in boxing that deserve some recognition, but unlike other sports boxing is unique in having an official hall of fame.
Football, for example relies on history to remember greats of gone by and the likes of Alex Ferguson will be remembered among football fans.
The famous trainers and certain referees and even journalists will hopefully be remembered much in the same way Brian Clough will be remembered and appreciated for what they have done for their respective sport.

But for me the HOF should be reserved for exploits within the ropes.
