Nicky Cook would feature, for me. Not sure Loughran should be on the list, either. Other than that, not much to add from me! Most of the 'right' names are there.
Amazing that these guys held so-called world titles and the likes of Herol Graham, Gary Jacobs and Howard Eastman never did.

Gavin Rees is a possibility. He has done a sterling job at lightweight since moving back down, but winning the title from M'Baye, who just decided to not throw anything, then losing nearly every round to Kotelnik before being stopped. I think Rees is a pretty credible challenger to Broner, but as Light Welterweight Champion, he was one of the poorest I've seen.

Is Nathan Cleverly the worst current Champion in all of the 17 weight divisions?

Cleverly isn't the worst but he's one of the worst advised.
His career should have kicked on after beating Murat. Instead, he went backwards.

I doubt it. He might do smith machine hack squats.......but I doubt that also because he can still walk.

Brian Magee (WBA Regular)
Won the Intrim Belt of Jamie Barboza (sp)
Then defended it once befor being upgraded to Regular, then got a swift backhander and put back in his place by Kessler like an embarrassment.
Up there with Nicky Cook

I think it's a bit unfair on Catley TBH to be called a "worst" champion. He should have won the title from Richie Woodhall much earlier were it not for some dodgy scoring and took Markus Beyer's unbeaten record by KO'ing him in the 12th to win the WBC belt.
That said though he did lose it in his next fight to the amazing Dingaan Thobela so maybe it's justified...

Catley should be spared a place on this list purely for the comedy gold behind his supposed reason for losing to Thobela, namely that Thobela had loaded gloves - a mobile phone concealed within his wraps.
I kid you not.

It was mainly for the Haye Nuthuggers mate.
Yes he was a world class act at Cruiser, but certainly not at heavy.
He rambled his mouth off constantly about him being the best heavy ever and that he would nail the K Bros.
He fought an old fat Ruiz (not exactly champ material), he fought an ogre in Valuev (who was actually garbage and he STILL only beat him on points....Just), he was decked by Barett who again is pants (yes he won, but not well), he then got utterly outclassed by the guy he said he would smash within 12, he knocked out Dereck Chisora (had previously lost to the World Class Fury and Helenius??) and finally he knocked out Audley Harrison 2 rounds later than our very own David Price.
He has to go down as the worst heavyweight champ in Britain.
Surely?
Crusier he was class. Just not Heavy

Hide and Akinwade were worse than Haye. Which given Britains fairly sparse list of heavyweight world chmapions probably puts Haye in the middle.

Wasn't Audley Harrison a World Champion? Having a quick look on google, he won the highly coveted WBF title!

Hide was world champ for 2 years and only lost the belt to a very impressive Vitali Klitschko.

He lost the belt to Bowe first time round ictor then lost to Klitschko. Bent was the only world ranked fighter he beat
Re: Top 10 Worst British World Champions ????
I suppose theres a fair argument that Hide, technically at least, might have been better or beaten Haye. I dont think his acheivements would neccessarily reflect it but he he could box well enough and with a better chin and more concentration could have acheived alot more. Hes a bit of a forgotten man and the losses to Bowe anf Vitali might paint a harsh picture of him. He could look quite good at times but the calibre of fighter he beat was poor. Hayes inactivity at heavyweight and unwillingness to face other ranked fighters counts against him but I would still have him as better than Hide.

Re: Top 10 Worst British World Champions ????
I think he would give him a good argument, whether he would win is anyones guess. I think his problem was that he'd found it tough getting credible opponents and when he did they were three steps up from the pace he was working at. Bowe had fought at that level where even if he struggled he had still fought at a higher level and used that to pull it out of the bag and Vitali was a maniac back then.

Hide would have been a brutal cruiserweight if the limit was always 200lbs.

So a weak chin makes somebody a bad boxer or one of the worst champions? Therefore Oliver Mccall > Wlad Kiltchko ?

Maybe not the weak chin but the fact he failed to defend his world title once?

Re: Top 10 Worst British World Champions ????
So did a lot of good fighters from a lot of good countries. Az doesn't really know what he's on about with Magri, who may have been brittle in the whiskers department, but was still good enough to pound out a decision over the great Santos Laciar, which you don't manage without a bit of talent. Magri probably won the title a year or two past his best, but he'd still just about make the all-time top 50 of UK fighters.

Re: Top 10 Worst British World Champions ????
In an age where the likes of Jason Matthews and Nicky Cook have been able to call themselves world champions the likes of Magri have no place on these lists, as the captain has said anyone who can turn over Laciar is anything but useless irrespective of how well he holds a shot.
Similarly my views on Haye are fairly familiar to most on here but anyone even proposing he gets near this list is just blinkered to the point of ridiculousness. Don’t like the guy but has a genuine claim to be top five in one of his weight classes, even if that is the traditionally weakest division it is enough of a claim to exclude him from this list as far as I am concerned.
Which brings me on to the UK’s other preeminent cruiserweight Nelson. Really do wish people would take the time to separate their views on his style or earlier capitulations against Wareing and DeLeon from his actual time as a titlist. He may not have always been good to watch but he was a seven year titlist and whilst his win column is not exactly a who’s who it is enough to set him apart from the guff who should populate this list.

Re: Top 10 Worst British World Champions ????
Aye, Magri was a really good little fighter in his own right, and I'd even say that it was his lack of ring smarts and survival techniques, rather than his chin, which was the big problem. When Cedeno battered him from pillar to post he took a hell of a lot of shots before capitulating, but contributed to his own downfall by refusing to box his way out of trouble, trying to blast his way back in to the fight. Which is surprising really, considering he had such a brilliant amateur background. He took a considerable amount of big shots against Chitalada before his corner pulled him out, too.
Besides, before Magri came along the BBB of C were considering scrapping the Flyweight division in this country, so unheralded and (virtually) dormant was it. Had it not been for Magri, we may never have got to see McAuley-Bassa I!

No one has mentioned Johnny Nelson?
Granted he won the title from Carl Thompson... but held the WBO version of Cruiser for 6 years and fought WBO ranked bums (JUST like Enzo Mac, JUST like Cleverly is doing). Another boxer happy to sit on an alphabet title and milk the "World Champion" status whilst fighting window cleaners.
I like his pundit work on Sky mind you.
