Rumours on the Dragons terrace...
First topic message reminder :
Now I've heard this rumour from 2 different sources so I wondered if any other Dragons fans have heard anything. The multi millionaire Mr Matthews who owns the Celtic Manor is expressing interest in the Dragons. Apparently he was interested if they could turn a profit this year that he would be willing to invest. I'm not sure where the investment would be directed or how much but I can't help wonder that if some of this maybe true. It would explain why the Dragons didn't recruit anyone on a high wage this season and concentrated their efforts on setting up a long term business plan. Also the debt of the new stand was of highest priority. Any one else heard about this?
...Again I will underline the fact that this is only a rumour.

Re: Rumours on the Dragons terrace...
Dragons chief executive Chris Brown said
"The key to what I'm trying to do is looking for a more sustainable future without such reliance on benefactors.
"It's of concern so far into a deep recession that rugby clubs and other sports clubs rely on benefactors to keep them going."
I also thought Dragons were paying for the new terrance, from there own budget, if Brown paid for it fair play to him.
Dragons, its seams are the best placed to run themselves without benefactors, it will be a long road, but to build a team that doesn't rely on benefactors, would that suggest Brown is wanting to make them self sufficient, so he can step away, without them going bust?
Maybe he's now wecome another benefactor coming in?

I'm not debating Matthews ability to spend, just that Thomas has history of spending on the pitch, whereas so far the Dragons are happy to let all their top players leave on an annual basis, and keep replacing them with academy prospects. Long term this is probably a smart way to go but at some point the waste of money that is players will have to be done for any sort of success.

Absolutely, and credit to our board for seeing through what a pointless endeavour that is under the current system. Now if we can just get the WRU out the way so we can get on with it...oh wait they want to destroy pro rugby in Wales so there are no challengers to the national team.

Sadly your right, the WRU would happily downgrade the Dragons if just to stop an indirect competition to brand Wales.
At what point are the Dragons going to stop allowing their talented players leave and actually bring some in?

That could be good news for the Dragons in a backside about face way. The WRU will want cash to buy and develope CAP, and there are rumours of moneymen wanting in on the Dragons, so it would make sense to seel the 50% of the Dragons (at a slightly inflated price) in order to part fund the CAP deal.

If it means the WRU sell their 50%, I'm all for it!

LP - to be honest I doubt there would be many regional fans against it, if it did indeed mean the Dragons would be free of the WRU shackles (well as free as any region can be). Also it would throw the Blues right into the WRUs pocket, and that would be interesting to see.

On the other hand, I won't be happy if we had to pay for the Bisley stand and then the WRU tart up the Blues' ground for them.
