Super Rugby Starts Friday
Just sayin'.
Not to get lost amongst everything else.
One Aussie derby Friday and one on Saturday. The rest of the competition starts next weekend.
Nice of the SANZAR folks to have 4/5 of the Aussie teams start early so we can eyeball them closely before the Lions tour.

Wooo!
I'm psyched for this!
Can't decide between following the Reds or Chiefs though...
No one doing any previews this year?

Did you see O'Connor's hair?
He must think he is the Australian version of David Beckham.

Can never bring myself to choose between the Crusaders & the Cheifs personally Yaps. Might have to opt to follow The Crusaders this year, there's something about bright red knights in shining armour that appeals to me.
No Sky Sports this year though, it had to go

For me to go out in public with a hair style like that, let alone on international tv, it would have to be a charity such as instant, guaranteed world peace. Outside of that, forget it. Good match to start the weekend. Enjoyed it.Linebreaker wrote:ha ha... what's with the haircut? For charity?

Re: Super Rugby Starts Friday
There was a certain intensity about the match. It was quite warm in Melbourne this evening but they were throwing it around like there was no tomorrow. Not bad quality for the first match of the season.

Re: Super Rugby Starts Friday
So there was talk at the start of the English Prem and Rabo about how their bottom team was going to be really bad and more or less give up 5pts every game and maybe get a few LBPs to maybe make it to 5pts at a push.
With the Super15 we are hearing a simiilar thing with kings. Will the Kings win a few games and have a fair few tight one our will the other teams esp the SA conference run up cricket scores to increase their pts.

Shota Horie?
No, I don't think he did. But he had the cameras pointed at him a few times though.

It could see the Rebels get a lot of support from Japanese rugby fans.Linebreaker wrote:It's great to see him here. Huge news in Japan. He'll get a run soon.
When Nakamura joined celtic, millions of Japanese soccer fans started supporting Celtic. Not a bad move there by the rebels.

Re: Super Rugby Starts Friday
Shinji Ono is already a cult hero here now in the A-League. WSW have had an amazing year... should see their fans. The atmosphere at their games is phenomenal. They're doing so well in their first year... wouldn't surprise me to see them go all the way and win the comp.
It would be nice to see more foreign players in our Super XV teams too. Especially during a B & I Lions tour year. They fit this place like a glove you know and everybody's a winner in terms of rugby development and integrating styles of play. Makes it much more interesting for the fans to watch too.

Ye I've seen Ono play. He's a great little Player. It would be great to see more Japanese players playing abroad. Id love to see a couple in Europe. The game is really booming over there and it should explode during the 2019 world cup. They really love their sport over there.Linebreaker wrote:Shinji Ono is already a cult hero here now in the A-League. WSW have had an amazing year... should see their fans. Also have you seen Tanaka play for otago? He's a great little SH. Very quick off the mark. He's also now signed up for the Highlanders for the 2013. I hope he gets some gametime. He could also become the first player from Japan to play super rugby.

He is great for the Highlanders. Interesting story about his wife who also got a contract with the local netball team? or some kind of sports role in Dunedin.

just watching the Reds/Brumbie game, you can tell it's the first game of the season. Penalty after penalty.

Re: Super Rugby Starts Friday
I thought the Rebels vs Force was a better game to watch.
Both the Reds and Brumbies were flirting with penalties at the breakdown, their discipline was questionable and because of the slow ball momentum was difficult to gather and also created a good number of aimless kicks downfield.
You can of course blame the referee for much of it as he didn't sort it out.
