His lip looked pretty awful too. I thought it was a goatee-gone-wrong but then it was revealed he'd had 16 stitches there and obviously couldn't shave that bit.
Pretty boring game so far. Too many errors. Hope things pick up in the 2nd half. Brumbies lead 8-6.

This is an OK link to the fixtures.

Don't know who gave the Tahs "4" points already though. Not me, I swear!

Thrilling game in Dunedin. Chiefs prevail 41-27. Some amazing end-to-end action. Top quality running game for the first kiwi match.

Yes excellant game Breaker.
But heres a question for you.
Is Jesse Mogg the Brumbies fullback any relation to Adam Mogg that used to play fullback for the Raiders?

Not sure mate. He talks kind of slow & deliberately doesn't he?
Just checked... he is 'distantly' related to Adam.

Good wins to the Bulls yesterday and the Blues in Wellington today.
Reds off to a perfect start leading 17-3 midway through first half. Tahs digging their own grave again.

Ref Cam. ffs... what next? Fox Copter is a much better innovation. (using that in league this year)
Reds playing some NFL with blockers and now taking out the kick-chasers.

Better 2nd half for Tahs but a few crucial moments when things didn't go their way. 25-17 final score.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
Non-stop heavy rain all day in Sydney today.
I think I was too optimistic picking the Tahs by 13 or whatever... it should be closer than that. Have to get going in about 2 hours.
I've been invited to a Corporate box so at the worst I'll get some free booze and snacks.
Looking forward to the start of the Blues-Saders game. Less than an hour til kick off.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
They've never beaten us but the last Tahs match I went to (2010? v Blues) was dreadful. Stopped going after that... not worth the ticket price. This time the tickets are free. (I'll be in the South West suite which is a little to the right of the camera view... mid tier.)
Parking $20 which is much cheaper than a taxi - $50-60 each way. (£33-40) ffs... its only about 8km from here!!! That's about R 460-550 for 5 miles each way. Train/bus would take over an hour and the weather is miserable. Another bloody monsoon for the first day of Autumn!
They are talking about them now on Rugby HQ... Cheika has laid down the law to the players but I'm pretty sure that's what he said last week!
now where's my wetsuit...?

Ah, I forgot you support the Waratahs.
I just have the wierdest feeling the Rebels are going to win, there is no logical reason aside from my gut.
Good luck, don't forget your suntan lotion.

No crime in supporting a Melbourne team..... yet.
Blues new strip looks a bit like the Rebels?

Rebels should feel aggrieved by that loss. Everytime they were on attack the penalties went to the defending team. Poor decisions.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
They certainly played better than the Tahs in the first half - incredibly slow ball and predictable play from both sides.
Second half was much better for the Waratahs as they actually showed more determination than the Rebels and dominated possession and field position (which frustrated the opposition) but I agree there were a few odd decisions from the Ref which went against them... but they did get pinged for repeated infringements some of them which were pretty cynical.
Very small crowd out there.

ooooh not a good start biltong...forgot first round but 3/3 so far. not far off in the margins either. Whos going to win the stormers match? I have sharks by 8. Chiefs by 18 and Bulls by 26 but I think that maybe the tourneys first real massacre. Bulls by 40 more likely...

Cheers Biltong, my issue with Ranger is that I dont think he's a centre, sure he's fast, got a step, and incredibly strong in the upper body, but he just doesnt have the distribution skills to set up anyone on either the inside or the out side.

The Cheetahs just look like they had nothing in the tank second half.
One thing about the Chiefs, they are a very physical side.

Do you reckon it is jet lag, Biltong? They just seem indifferent now.

Ben Tameifuna... 140 kgs!
45-3 final score. I have a feeling the Bulls will win just as big against the Force.

i think it is a combination of travel, but mostly the physicality of the chiefs backline. The cheetahs backline is not the biggest and most physical.Linebreaker wrote:Do you reckon it is jet lag, Biltong? They just seem indifferent now.

Bulls a bit lucky I thought. Force have no players of note so cant see the Bulls style winning through this year on that performance. They face 3 past winners in the Blues, Brumbies and Reds away who have one loss between them (Brumbies beat the Reds) so they need to improve significantly to win any of the 3. The Force muscled up on them today and that meant the Bulls had few options, especially out wide. Tough days ahead for them as I thought this would be a romp.

A little surprised at that result too not having seen the match. I thought the Bulls would romp it.
The Blues and Chiefs look a cut above the rest at this stage. Tahs will struggle in Canberra if they play like they did in the 1st half on Friday... might be a chance if they play like they did in the 2nd half. However, they are still in a different league to the top NZ sides.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
Dont quite get JK's reasons for not going with Anscombe- said he didnt want an in the pocket 10. Hes now thriving at 15 for the Chiefs and his goal kicking has always been first class as it was last week. Easy in hindsight I suppose.
And would love to know the analysis going on for the Blues meeting with the Bulls this week. JK and Henry will have only watched NZ sides play them from a distance recently. Whether they'll adopt anything other than a license to thrill approach will be interesting.
On the 10's Meyer will continue to have a dilemma at 10 with Goosen up and down with his form. Made a great break then had a try scored off a charged down touchfinder. His goalkicking was astray a bit. He'll get better though. Steyn didnt have anywhere near the game he had last week with the pressure applied by the Force and he also gave a try away with the intercept. To round things off DC nearly did the same with a charge down. For me DC does seem to have a lot of so so matches for the 'Worlds best 10' and for some reason I dont find Im looking for him to spark the side to a win.
That was a cool pushover try from the Bulls though- or a run over they were sprinting as a pack to the line in the end.
Hard to tell which side is the Oz best, the Brumbies having the best start at home. Once they get away I think we'll get a better idea as last year they travelled extremely poorly across all 5, away wins were rare.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
The problem for Goosen is now people have a lot of data on his plays whereas last year he was an unknown force.
Its the 2nd season syndrome IMO as teams will place a lot of attention on him and his weaknesses.
He isn't in a position of having a very strong team around him which helps pivots, he's going to have to do it the hard way.... or in reality look to move on as most decent players at the FS end up somewhere else come the end of their contract.

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
Tend to agree but he always looks confident, doesnt shy off the tough stuff. Would love to see him instead of Steyn at the Bulls. He'd get good protection and front foot ball and the Bulls look like they're trying to run it more.
Still reckon he's the best 10 for the Boks and despite the willingness to run the ball at the Cheetahs its still going to mostly be hish risk and come from behind stuff and thats not a good foundation. His having to defend so much adds to his injury chances as well.
I mean the Bulls will want to stomp all over him to get their man Steyn into Meyers side...said with tongue in cheek of course...

Re: 2013 Super XV: Fixtures, Results & Table
It looks natural that Goosen could head towards the Bulls but he is contracted to the FS until the end of the 2014 season. I think he needs to eventually go to one of the big 3 SA sides eventually. With Jantjies at WP, Lambie at the Sharks and the Bulls letting Steyn go it looks like the obvious choice.
However a lot can change in 2 yrs of rugby. The bulls signed Hendre Pollard, the 18yr old kid who was the starting pivot at the last JWRC where SA won the title. He did this whilst he was still in school and is very talented.
Who knows really, we're never sure who makes it from the junior ranks and who doesn't. I heard Harlequins let Joe Launchbury go when he was 18 as he was not deemed good enough... by 21 he is first choice ENG player and will almost certainly tour and test with the lions later in the year.

If Goosen move to the Bulls that will be the end of him.
