Re: Top 10 Greatest directors!!
I am surely going to pick some people who will get berated but its how I see it!
Not in any particular order:
Spielberg
John Carpenter (at his late 70's/ early 80s height)
Tony Scott (better than his brother)
Robert Zemeckis
Joe Dante
Baz Luhrman
Brian DePalma
Hitchcock
Frank Capra
Tim Burton
I also really like Zach Snyders work so far - think he could be a future great

Brian depalma is a very good choice....The old taciturn one did Dressed to kill and scarface and probably belongs on my list....
However sold out a little for me and became lazy..
Quentin was another consideration..

Re: Top 10 Greatest directors!!
For some reason I thought the thread title read greatest action directors. Apologies for that.
Martin Scorcese is number 1 for me because he made Goodfellas a great movie that I have seen a thousand times and never get bored with it.

Re: Top 10 Greatest directors!!
Its funny that when lists about actors, films or directors come up, the same names appear. But more contempory directors dont get any credit.
For example, David Lean is an incredible film maker (Speilbergs favourite I think) but if I had a choice of a David Lean marathon or a Tony Scott one, I would be heading into the Danger zone as we speak!
What was the last film that made you marvel at the wonders of film?
Mine was Baz Luhrmans Moulin Rouge which reminded me how good film can be as a spectacle. I was completely lost in the music and visuals - when I left it was the first time in years where I felt that films were almost magical. That seems a bit crap when written out but hopefully you will know what I kind of mean (if not with that film)
