Shot 21 LCFC wrote:It is all opinions I suppose - I actually regard his Death Row material as his best! All Eyez On Me and Killuminati are classics in my eyes (although I still love all the prior albums).
But Im not going to sit here and say he did no wrong and was an angel. He definitely did some things which were not at all decent or recommendable. But in a way he became such an angry man through circumstances. When you think about it, he got shot 5 times and believed it was his friends who set him up. Then he went to prison for something he didnt really do (this is my belief cant prove either way). Thats enough to turn anyone ito an angry rageful man.
It is a shame though I agree, and while I think Death Row bought out the best in him music-wise, I agree that it was probably the beginning of his demise...
Good to have a proper thought out discussion about it though as opposed to wumming and insults
If I was in Suge's position I would have locked him away in a studio with Dre and only Dre for 12 months and let them work their magic. There's not a producer in the history of rap music that can touch Dre - although the RZA comes a close second. Look at what he did with Snoop. Doggystyle was an awesome album and Snoop never replicated his 1991-93 form. Dre brought the best out of him though D.O.C deserves a mention. What a writer he was!
My issue with All Eyes on Me was that there was too many producers involved and it watered down the LP, in my opinion. Dre + Pac + 12 months of studio time = one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time. Real shame that.
And as for Death Row records as a whole: What a monumental mess they made of it all. How many hundreds of millions of dollars disappeared?

Re: Welcome to T5MOD
Agree with Death Row. How you can have 2 Pac, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg all on the label and then ten years later be out of business is beyond me.
Also agree about Dre and Pac. Im fairly sure the only 2 songs they worked on together were California Love and Cant C Me (which were both great songs) so a whole ablum with them both would have probably been the classic of classics...

Re: Welcome to T5MOD
I used to love 2pac when I was growing up, never really got into biggie. Suppose I was pushing for the 'west coast' to destroy the east but the way it all ended will always put a dampener on it all. The battle never really got going before the shootings, obviously 2pac released hit em up and biggie responded but it could've been huge.
When you look at all the previous rap battles (that I can remember) nas and jay-z - they battled out of respect to each other and left it all on cd or 'wax'
50 cent/ Eminem and ja rule - that one while Eminem made good songs and clever lyrics, it almost came to the same ending as 2pac and biggie.
Where does respect finish and hatred begin?
Not many rappers can continue for long periods in my eyes unless they change and start doing what the kids are currently listening to. Perfect example is pitbull, you listen to his first album and it's clever lyrically with some very good beats behind him. Now it's just embarrassing.

Agree on Pitbull but some can do it. Look how long Nas has been going on for and his Life Is Good album is very good without resorting to David Guetta and Calvin Harris producing all the beats. Still has a raw hip hop sound.

As this is the off topic section for the wrestling community I thought I would take the opportunity to plug 6CW and invite you all to check out our area of v2
https://www.606v2.com/f185-6cw
6CW is an e-fed that has now been around for over 4 years. - What is an e-fed I hear you ask?
E-wrestling has evolved as a term for an Internet variation on creative roleplay, based on the world of professional wrestling. The basic premise is that the player (also called a handler) creates a character, and manages his or her career in a fictional professional wrestling promotion, called an "E-Federation" (or E-Fed).
Our fed, 6CW is classified as an Angle/Role Playing fed.
We understand the E-fedding is hobby and a place where you can chat to people from across the world and for this reason I am trying to widen the net for potential new sign ups.
Due to this 6CW focuses on delivering fun and original story that gives that extra bit of energy and excitement to write promo's.
We currently operate bi-weekly shows culminating in PPV's every couple of months our 'Wrestlemania' being Night of Glory
I think that's enough of the serious stuff- If you are interested in signing up drop me a PM or if you just fancy trying out a different area of v2 for a chat then you know where we are

Might as well jump on the plugging badwagon.
If anyone is interested in UK Hip Hop them my album is on sale digitally in stores such as iTunes, Amazon MP3, Beatport, Spotify etc. The album is called Plots & Plans and the artist name is Shot 21 so searching these should bring it up (it is on sale worldwide so you lot across the pond can find it too!). 17 songs with no skits and intros / outros.

Not going to pretend I know anything about hip-hop, but checked this out on iTunes last night.

I heard the Shawn Michaels reference on "Bounce Right Back" - that was cool.
Is there a copy of your Ministry sampled one that we can listen to? Link me up if so.
Think I'll pick up a few of your tunes - support "local" music and that
Are you called Shot Twenty-One or Shot Two-One (like Wretch 32)? Just so when I recommend you to people I don't sound like a square

I'd say Jay-Z is probably the best blueprint (see what I did there) on how to get mainstream success, while sticking to a more original hip hop sound. While I prefer Nas, Jay-Z has had much more commercial success outside of America and yet hasn't needed to phone David Guetta for a beat.

Yeah Im a Jay Z fan as well. Kingdom Come and American Gangster werent that brilliant and I was beginning to think he was falling off but then BAM!!! He hit us with Blueprint 3 which was absolutely brilliant! I was a big fan of Watch The Throne too. But I prefer Nas.
I will presume by your name that Illmatic is your favourite Nas ablum. I am going to be controversial and say I dont consider it to be his best. My favorite is I Am followed by Gods Son.

Yeah, Illmatic is in my top 5 hip hop albums. To be honest I consider I Am & Godson not far from his best work, I also love Stillmatic as you can tell just how much he had the fire back in his belly.
I'm the only person I know that rates American Gangster, I thought it was a really good concept album.
Watch The Throne on first reflection was ok, but then I went to see them and they put on quite a show which enhanced the album for me. One of the best concerts I've been to.

The production, engineering and mixing side was great fun and really fulfilling I must admit but I grew tired of it after a while. I'll put that down to age!
Sold alot of my gear but still have the drum machine. I used to use a Zoom Street-Box. Cheap as chips but a great writing tool. Still got it here somewhere, I'll have a dig around for it later.

Stillmatic is great. One Mic is a classic song. That along with Hate Me Now (ft P Diddy) are up there in my favourite ever songs!

I've now seen Jay Z, Kanye and P Diddy, I'm super cool! I really dont listen to much music anymore, the only artist I've sat and listened to for a few years is Childish Gambino, who I love. It does help that hes on Community and wrote for 30 Rock, as well as being a good stand up.

Love Gambino but when I listen to his stuff it always begins to feel like I'm listening to him impersonate rappers he likes, you can definitely hear which rapper inspires each song.
I usually listen to heavier stuff but to keep on the subject of rap I have to say my favourite song at the moment is Watsky - Ugly Faces
