Shame to see Gethin go off, hope he is fit for Scotland - though James is doing a good job

Loose
Ye control is what he's all about, and where I don't think he was good against Ireland, and OK against France he is definately getting better as he gets more caps!!!
How good would he be if he was given a proper chance in the last 2 seasons?

Burton is definately hampering Italy here, his default setting is too negative!!!

i'd like to see the ref do a little better at the breakdown. Players have been holding on to the tackled player far too long.

Re: Italy vs Wales Match Thread
Owens is overrated for me. I've watched him for years, and his lineout throwing is not great. Hibbard is our best hooker at the moment and Rees second best.

Italy yellow card... now we have to take points!!
We need to take at least 3 points off Italy in the next 10 minutes and the game is all but over, just WIN the yellow card period!!!

Castrogiovanni in the bin for ten. Wales really need to take advantage of that now.

The ball was off the ground and was lost for at least 7/8 seconds, if that was Ireland they'd have all been screaming turnover and wouldve gotten the scrum!!
I'm with nathan, we were very lucky to keep that baal from the maul, it was unplayable for a while!!

Genuine question, it was a maul Wales took it in, the welsh player was held up. Does that not mean it is a scrum to Italy.

Cari, they've got a mixture of attributes that would be very good combined into one! Maybe they should both play.

I don't think that was a block at all, just a collision of a dummy runner and a defender nowhere near the ball.

Was the ball held up though, or was it on the floor? I couldn't see either through my TV.

to be fair, wales just scored a try with a very similar block. But wales are playing all the rugby so i guess decisions will go with them.

Re: Italy vs Wales Match Thread
Bloody hell, easy day at the office for Wales. Burton has been terrible at 10, missing parisse big time at 8! Everything has been so one dimensional. I know its wet but still Italy look like a shadow of the team who put away France.
Good news is my £10 bet is gonna win!

After it went down the Italian player was lying all over MP and didn't roll away, otherwise we could have presented the ball quickly and cleanly. It should have been a penalty to Wales but Poite continued with play.

Hmmm, I don't think they'll allow an eight limbed player.
Oh nice one lads. Took so long messing about making a decision, the binning ends. They should've taken a quick kick.
Hook on. Bread of Seven on for R-Jo too.

Good afternoon folks
Yes it very clearly was a scrum
What awful conditions the ball is very greasy, Gethin had an awesome first half, Hibbard in our mind was poor, Owen coming on deffo has made a difference to the lineout
Good to see Hook on but should have been brought on 15 mins ago

Re: Italy vs Wales Match Thread
Maybe I don't know the rules, but if the maul goes to ground and the ball is on the ground, but bodies on it, then it is not a penalty against the team that's took it in. If the balls in the air (not on the ground, then yes). But ball on the floor but made unplayable then you're given time to dig it out, or if it won't come out then the team going forward (Wales) get the put in anyway.

the ball wasn't on the floor, it was held up so italy could lay on it.

Noone has to roll away after a maul goes down, if your the wrong side youve done a good job and gain a turnover.
Italy have been a little unlucky so far today, but as the day dries up they are losing touch with Wales.

The ball went to ground IMO but I'm not too bright in the area of 'maul' anyway.

I qould say Wales have been very deffo the much better team, however Italy should have had a pen try and Biggar should have had 10 mins in the bin. Might have made a difference but not alot
