Fandango
Am I the only one slightly looking forward to his debut? I just want to see where they go with it and if it is anything different. Im sure he is not going to just wrestle and tango. I find these preview videos quite amusing. Mainly because he really winds my missus up who says she just wants to punch him in his face when ever he says "Fan....DANGO!!!"
Thoughts?

I'm hoping the give him a 'bizzarre' edge to his characters behaviour. Something along the lines of how Goldust was in his early days

I am not looking forward to his debut at all, and i think its going to be a waste of air time and a disaster from day 1.

I will be surprised if he makes it to TV and if it does the gimmick will flop.

I am just amazed that in this modern day of HHH wanting all new guys being brought through should have direction, purpose and character that one is a Latin American dance instructor. I know all cant be the Shield but this?

You said it, not everyone can be The Shield, give a crap guy a crap gimmick and see if it goes anywhere, no real harm... He aint the new Disco Inferno, there's a guy on nWt with that gimmick

Re: Fandango
I think WWE are returning to the good old days of wrestlers having day jobs, which I for one applaud wholeheartedly.
Back in the day you'd have TL Hopper the evil wrestling plumber, Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese the not so evil bin man and Jean-Pierre Lafitte who was like an evil pirate or something.
Bring 'em all back I say! And add an evil driving instructor, an evil vet and an evil canteen lady for good measure.

Re: Fandango
To add to that list, you also had the evil backstage guy (Just Joe), the eveil network guy (err...cant remember. Canyon maybe) and the evil Yeti (Yettaiiii) who terrorized ancient pyramids by day
Re: Fandango
On the podcast last week I came up with the idea of a wrestler having a over-zealous Health & Safety officer gimmick. Running down to ringside and adding safety corners to the steel steps and those bits in between doors so you don't get your kids fingers trapped.

Re: Fandango
Thought I would bump my own thread back up as opposed to starting a new one with the same name.
I am just interested to know how everyone is feeling about him now he has started to develop and get into a feud with Chris Jericho. As you will notice in my OP I was hoping he would have more to him than just some sort of comedy dancer role. And boy have I been proven right. He is even better than I expected. He looks almost deranged and psychotic at times. Especially when he was holding Jericho up screaming "say my name!!". Obviously we havent seen him in a ring yet, but that top rope leg drop does look good (he can get a bit of distance too - Jericho was halfway accross the ring!).
It is also very interesting to give him his debut at Wrestlemania. Has this ever been done before? Even if he loses to Jericho, thats a statement of how they regard him to let him have his first official match as Fandango on the grandest stage of them all. But what if he actually wins? What other wrestler will have been given a start like that? I know some people think beating Jericho isnt too big a deal as he has put loads of people over, but this is still a star we are talking about. Former world champ who was in last years Mania main event (kind of), so if Fandango wins then I will be expecting big things.
But you have got to give it up to WWE. If last year someone told me Johnny Curtis would be turned into a ballroom dancer but would still come across as extremely dangerous and vicious I would have laughed at you. But they have done it. I just hope it lasts.
So what are your thoughts now?

I hope we see him wrestle at wrestlemania but it depends on if the person introducing him can get his name right.

Re: Fandango
I was thinking about this actually, does him being given a debut at Wrestlemania mean he is in the WWE's future plans or are they going to squash him and make a joke out of him?
He seems to have potential (I don't watch NXT so this is the first time I have seen him) but what I'd like to happen is if they do see him in their future plans...have him beat Jericho and then drop the whole dancer gimmick, saying it's an insult that they're forcing him to carry such a stupid comedic role in order for him to make it etc.
Have him go after people with other "gimmicks", saying they are the problem with the WWE, though that may be too much like the whole Shield thing.

Re: Fandango
He'll beat Jericho and then most likely disappear, the gimmick is just incredibly annoying, it has no depth and certainly won't have any length to it. It's also painfully clear that this match has been thrown together at the last minute.

Re: Fandango
I think the gimmick is supposed to be annoying. He is cocky, vein and arrogant and thinks his name has to be pronounced before he can grace the ring. But at the same time, he is vicious as well as an opportunist (attacking Jericho after he had been hit with the Big Ending). He is playing his heel role well. You might be right in the fact his gimmick wont have length and will fade away soon, but I hope you are wrong as I am enjoying it.

Re: Fandango
The starting gimmick will lead him so far, I think he pulls off his moves with a level of brutality. He moves around the ring with grace that makes you slightly understand the character. The leg drop looks very good

Re: Fandango
I like Fandango, actually surprised I'm saying this, I just like the fact he has a gimmick, he's doing well sticking to the gimmick and he's got an outfit that mirrors his gimmick
As for his match at WrestleMania, I'm expecting Jericho to go over him, I don't think a loss would do to much harm to Fandango at the moment, it'd leave the door open for a rematch around SummerSlam time which would allow Fandango to build himself up so he's ready for his re-match.
If Jericho loses this match I feel it kills any remote value he has left, if he loses this it confirms he's nothing but a novelty act now which in my opinion would be a shame because I genuinely feel he still has a lot to offer

Re: Fandango
Even if Fandango won dirty? If he completely cheated to win (say he had that dancing beaty distract Jericho) would you feel that would still devaule him?
The more I think about it, the more I think Jericho will win. However it is compliment to Fandango (and Big E Langston) that they are debuting at Wrestlemania.

Jericho loves to lose.
If he doesnt win this it makes his matches almost pointless to watch as he just seems set to come back to put people over even people with no standing in the WWE currently (Fandango having had no match). Is there even any value in beating him anymore?

I seen Jericho trying to nip Fandangos ankle, to be honest I couldn't care less tho so hardly paid much attention as too why, I knew he wanted to pass on an instruction of some kind
