Fandango got me thinking.
Am I the only one who feels sorry for these guys who get stuck with awful gimmicks or who the creative teams just seem to not know what to do with them?
On the one hand I know the wrestlers have a say when it comes to creating the gimmick for themselves but I also imagine the pressure they're under to take whatever is given to them to be part of the business and how easily they can be replaced. I remember watching Beyond The Mat where Droz got given the stupid gimmick of "Puke" and you could feel that he was just thinking about having the job and not how stupid the gimmick actually was.
I feel sorry for them because they could be working for years and years to make a name for themselves in wrestling just to be stuck with a stupid gimmick that will obviously lose it's humour or stop working within a few months.
What do you guys think?

I understand they get paid good money but it must still be awful to work that hard to get to the top of the business and put all that effort in to then get given a gimmick you can tell won't be funny within a few months or in the case of Fandango is already putting people off you.

I get what you mean, there must be that annoyance that your dream could well be crushed by being forever remembered as a tango dancer. You get FE'd cos the gimmick doesnt work and all you can think is "its your f'ing idea!" And its not even like you get a lot of time to get yourself as more than the gimmick nowadays. You almost have to hope they realise the idea is flopping quite awhile before your contract is up so that they can change what you're doing. Although the example I can think of is dancing Tensai and that doesnt back up my argument very well

Personally I believe that generally the cream will rise to the top, yes having a strong gimmick will get you over but there's been plenty of exceptions to that rule over the years, Dusty Rhodes springs to mind and Brodus Clay more recently.
Curtis has been on the wwe's books for years now and hasn't found a way to make any sort of lasting impression despite winning NXT. He came across as a bit of a joker on that show so I wouldn't be surprised if this gimmick was his own making and if not he'll be desperate to take anything creative have for him as IMO he's getting close to the breadline.

After reading the subject header I was so hoping the end of the sentence was "about starting up tango" - you would have been a legend in my eyes.
Also I have just figured out a little rhyme which is maybe where they came up with the name:
Fandango..... can tango!! Piece of pure lyrical genius right there!!

Re: Fandango got me thinking.
The name Fandango is crying out for a Stone Cold to Ric Flair type promo (What exactly is a Nature Boy? Do you like nature? Do you like boys?)
"What exactly is a Fandango? Are you a fan? Do you dango?"
