However this is because of a lack of funding and support and of course a massive sexist barrier preventing the best female athletes from improving and reaaching a higher level.
thought women got paid same as males at wimbledon? for 3 sets instead of 5. Is that sexism or positive discrimination?
If you want to argue about discrimination against men then talk about male primary school teachers, or male secretaries or male nurses but arguing male tennis players are discriminated against is utter rubbish.

Women get the same money at Wimbledon for doing less. The men are being discriminated against.
I don't really think men are that bothered about being primary school teachers and other girly jobs.

No different to womens football Truss, it's just not as good to watch as the men's game, plus there's too few of them to generate much of a fan base. That said I thought that Nicky Adams and Katie Taylor looked great, and were watchable, but I assume that we are talking pro boxing here, after all except for the Olympics hardly anyone follows the amateur game, whatever the sex of the participants

I thought Nicola Adams was our singularly most impressive boxer by a substantial margin.

Is Katie Taylor any less skillful than Marcus Maidana or Vitali Klitschko?
No? Thought not.

if there was somebody good enough then people might get into womens boxing. look at mma, ronda rousey has changed womens mma, and is now headlining ufc cards. but before she came along they were boring, so the men ruled. look at tennis, men and womens games are both of a equal standard and both attract attension.

Yes, they would both beat her in a fight. They are therefore better than her...

My missus often complains of having sore or sensitive knockers. Surely that is a hindrence to women in boxing? Also don't believe their pain threshold is very high. The fuss over child birth and 'that' time of the month is over exaggerated in my opinion.

What a very snobbish attitude. You're very keen on promoting your 'working class hero' done good background, Mackem, so perhaps you should tailor your attitude a little bit?
Or perhaps, of course, you were joking. In which case, as you were.

Or maybe we should all debate the topic of the thread or nothing at all. Have really tried to avoid locking the thread in the misguided belief you may all be mature enough to avoid behaving like a bunch of sexist cretins and out of respect for the fact Truss has had countless threads locked recently but you're not making things particularly easy for me.

Eh? Not at all. Interest in the women's game is nowhere near as high. Not helped by the Williams' turning up when they feel like it who were the only seriously big names in the sport and things like Safina being World #1 despite never winning a Slam. The men's games are where all the headlines are, the stars are, attracts the most advertising revenues etc etc. Ask anyone on the street the top 5 mens tennis players in the world and you can be certain they'll get 4/5, ask the same for the women's game and they'd be lucky to get 2.

Ask the same people in the street to name the top boxers in the world and you would most probably get David Haye, Ali and the guy who makes the grills.

In fairness, statistically, it's probably not an unreasonable estimate given how many people are employed in call centres up there...

1. I was responding specifically to the comment in bold, not talking boxing.
2. Boxing is pretty much a fringe sport nowadays, sadly, so the likelihood is you wouldn't get much sense out of either gender.
3. Your comment doesn't actually refute my point.

Just don't ask me. Crushingly dull sport. Federer, the Spanish dude who looks very feminine and that miserable Scottish guy who likes boxing. That is all I can come up with.
But you're right, naming the top women tennis players is even harder. The Williams sisters? Does that Latin American one with the sweaty back and massive thighs still play? She was lovely.

Surely it is not sexist being of the opinion that women are crap at sport in general? That seems to be the jist of people's arguments.
