Top 5 Wrestlemania Moments Empty Top 5 Wrestlemania Moments

Post by BD21 Thu 07 Mar 2013, 10:50 am

As Wrestlemania rolls around again, let's take the time to go on a nostalgia trip.

Post your Top 5 Wrestlemania Moments. Mine are as follows:

5) Spear! Spear! Spear!

The year was 2001. The event was Wrestlemania 17. The match was TLC 2. 3 tag teams at the top of their game looking to steal the show. The specific moment that sticks in the mind and has featured in many a hihhkihht reel over the years is when Jeff Hardy was dangling from the rafters holding on for dear life on the title belts. Meanwhile, Edge had climbed a ladder in the cornee of the ring and delivered one of if not THE most iconic spears of all time. The crowd went crazy as did the fans at home.

4) "I'm sorry, I love you"

Wrestlemania 24. Ric Flair had won several matches over the few months leading up to WM 24 against mid carders in Career Threstening Matches. He then put out the challenge to "Mr. Wrestlemania" HBK. It was never going to be a masterclass in Wrestling but for one nuhht, Ric Flair was THE man once again. The end of the match came when HBK delievered one of the most emotional moments in Wrestlemania history. Before hitting Flair with a final sweet chin music, HBK whispered the words "I'm sorry, I love you"

3) Career vs Streak - Streak wins.

After winning Match of the Year for their classic at WM 25, Undertaker and HBK went one more time. HBK was convinced he could take the streak and went to great lengths to get the opportunity. He finally got it when he cost Taker the title at Elimination Chamber. The final moment of HBK's in ring career with the best Tombstone ever seen. Unable to put HBK away the normal way, Taker picked up HBK and hit a jumping tombstone. The 1-2-3 came and that was it. Taker helped HBK up in an ultimate show of respect.

2) SWEET CHIN MUSIC!!! PEDIGREE!!! 1-2-THR NO!!!!!

We knew it was the end of an era, we speculated that it could be the end of a career but we never thought it would be the end of the streak. For one small moment though, there was a chance. HBK was the special referee and played the role brilliantly. He hit Taker with SCM and HHH hit the pedigree. Time slowed down, we were all kids again. Disbelief, THIS WAS IT! Taker then kicked out at 2.89 and gave me one of my biggest mark out moments in a very long time.

1) BENOIT!!!!! BENOIT!!!!!! BENOIT!!!!!

A controversial choice but this is more about JR and MSG than Benoit himself. Wrestlemania XX delivered my favourite Wrestlemania moment of all time. A brilliant triple threat match that had great build up ended with Benoit having HHH locked in the crossface. The crowd went insane and so did JR. The hold seemed to be on forever and Hunter nearly got to the ropes then Benoit rolled him over in to tbe middle of the ring. MSG and JR went bats**t. Eventually HHH tapped out and Benoit was champion. The last 10 minutes of the match and the 5 minutes that followed provided my favourite piece of commentary of all time. JR was incredible. He lost his voice in it all and was as emotional as the rest of us. Amazing.

Fully agree with #1. Don't think that will ever be topped.

I can appreciate the newer moments, and even some from The Attitude Era, but my greatest moments were from the earlier Wrestlemania's.

Off the top of my head:
#1 - Warrior returning at WM8
#2 - Warrior winning the title at WM6
#3 - Macho Man winning the title at WM4
#4 - Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon at WM10
#5 - Jake the Snake vs Rick Martel at WM7

I'm with you there KV. I wasnt really a viewer of the Attitude Era and didnt watch much between Wrestlemania 11 and 19.

Warrior v Savage at WM7 is probably my No1. Warrior looking to the heavens wondering what it takes to beat Savage, then after delivering his finisher multiple times before placing his foot on Savage's chest for the pin, putting his coat back on and leaving the ring. That is a standout moment for me.

I think the two that stand out above all others are Hogan slamming Andre, and the blood pouring down Austin's face as he was locked in the sharpshooter.

'I'm sorry, I love you' would be my third choice. I thought that in spite of its incredible cheesiness the Macho Man - Miss Elizabeth reunion was a great culmination to a three year storyline and a very memorable moment, played to perfection by all involved.

My fifth choice would be the entire spectacle of Rock vs Hogan.

Mr H, I was going to put that at Number 3, but I didn't want to come across as the Warrior mark I am. That was a great moment.

WM3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. What was your favourite?

Top 5 mania moments would be

5) tlc match with hardys, e&c and dudleyz
4) tyson turning on michaels at w15 I think (just becoz this was the first mania I watched when I was really into wrestling)
3) edge vs foley match (think it was the making of edge into becoming a bonifide superstar)
2) flair vs michaels was just storytelling at its very best
1) the rock vs Austin w15 I think, the match was just awesome and the 2 of them were at the height of there popularity and the attitude era was booming!!!

My top 5 WrestleMania Moments

#5 - the Slam that was heard around the World

Hogan did what no other man could do (well apart from Stan Hanson and John Studd but don't mention that) when he picked up Andre the Giant and body slammed him

#4 Macho King reunites with Miss Elizabeth

After an epic battle with the Warrior, one of the best WM matches in my opinion, Savage lost his career and when his Queen had enough of him, his one true love came to the rescue

#3 "I'm Sorry I love you"

Brilliant match, mainly for HBK's involvement, the ending was perfect, Shawn did what he had to do and he put the old man down, superb psychology

#2 - Warrior wins the World Title

For me this is still the most iconic match in the history of Pro Wrestling, the match that saw the pretender to the throne become the Man in the WWF, Hogan and Warrior got pelters for their lack of in ring ability but for me this was a masterclass in psychology and holding the crowd in the palm of your hands

#1 - Austin passing out with pain

Head covered in blood after being busted open by Bret Hart, Steve Austin won over the WWF fans by refusing to give up while locked in the sharpshooter, bleeding prefusly he clung on for as long as he could before passing out in pain

Top 5 WrestleMania Matches

#5 The Rock vs Hulk Hogan WM18
#4 Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior WM6
#3 Bret Hart vs Steve Austin WM13
#2 The Ultimate Warrior vs The Macho King WM7
#1 Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker WM26

Would be a toss up between 7 and 8 but would probably go with 7. What about you?

My order would probably be -

1) WM7
2) WM8
3) WM26
4) WM17
5) WM20

You'd have 26 as your 3rd choice H? In my opinion it was pretty poor apart from the main event

Yeah, I'm WM7 too. It had all of the faces.
WM7
WM6
WM4
WM8
WM18

I think wrestling had died on it's a$$ come 1995, and I didn't really get the whole Attitude era until 2001 when it was at its end. WM17 was a banger, but WM18 topped it for me because Hogan was back. WM10 is very close to those two IMO. What's happened since 2004 has been alright, and for the most part better than the mid 90's, but they've just not been able to recapture the magic of the Golden Era or late Attitude in spite of Undertaker, HHH and Shawn Michaels best attempts.

I think Mania 24 has to be one of the most under rated, fantastic card topped off by the Edge v Taker blinder, but rarely gets a mention

I can see it might not be a popular choice but the whole build up of both HBK v Taker and Cena v Batista really drew me in and both matches delivered. The MITB match, Punk v Mysterio and Jericho v Edge were decent mid card bouts too. I know it won't be everyones pick but i just personally enjoyed it.

WM26 should have been one of the best, the card was stacked. The crowd were awful though through most of it which affected it badly.

I'm finding it quite hard to pick just 5 WM moments but here goes.

1) WM14 - Austin winning his first world title
2) WM18 - Hogan v Rock - One of the best crowds ever for a match
3) WM17 - Austin heel turn because I cried
4) WM6 - Warrior going over Hogan
5) WM13 - Austin passing out

Sorry Nas, but if you're old enough to appreciate #4, how does #3 happen?!
I'm picturing "it's still real to me dammit" meets "cm punk lost?!" man

Ha ha. I was 15 when Austin turned heel.

When I was very young Warrior was my favourite. I didn't actually see WM6 at the time, I think I was around 6 when I first seen it and it's one of my earliest memories of wrestling.

I had images of "Nas, you ok dude?"
"I.. I.. "
"Come, on it's just wrestling, lets go get a beer!"
"I.. I.. I need some time"
