Magic man
Simple how do you rate paulie malignaggi? Up to the Hatton fight he had only lost to Miguel Cotto in a brutal 12 rounder. Against lovemore n'dou paulie sported the worst haircut in boxing history, leading to him having a hair cut half way through the fight. Paulie won in a points decision that some feel should have gone the other way.
Then came the hatton fight. Ricky hurt him early and paulie just went into running mode and never even looked like he wanted to win. Then there were two great performances against Juan Diaz, in which he should have won both fights. He even appeared to hurt diaz! Then came the khan fight. Paulie was out classed and seemed slow and disjointed.
Paulie won the WBA welterweight title with a 9th rd TKO of hatton conqueror shenchenko.
Paulie has good hand speed, variety of punches and a great chin. He has always lacked power but has made a career minimising that disadvantage. He has mostly lost his big fights but remained at or near the top. How do you rate him?

Boring, average fighter with no power...who's made a living out of having a big mouth and a little charisma..

Re: Magic man
Hes a decent fighter who would be much better with a bit of pop. Unfortunately unless you are pep or Locche being featherfisted negates alot of your talent. Gutsy though.
Re: Magic man
Brave and has shown bouncebackability with the Senchenko win. Should have lost to Cano me thinks and is perhaps coming towards the end of his stay at world level. Tricky fight for a lot of people

Malignaggi is an average fighter, has little charisma, little power and has basically lived off his big mouth.
oh and he is boring.

He's a great pundit in all fairness. One of the better ones I've heard. Fighting style. He was never going to be one of those guys who knocked people out cold because he just doesn't hold the power, but he's slick and had good speed. Just not elite level.

Re: Magic man
Saw the title and assumed this was a thread about Marlon Starling- what is it with people nicking other fighters nick names? Like Hatton calling himself Hitman, maybe he thought hit and hold man was too long.

Re: Magic man
i think paulie has quite a lot of skill, and is a decent fight for most fighters, i actually thought he won cano comfortably too. he doesnt have too much power, but tends to through whilst moving, not planting his feet, so perhaps thats why his power isn't there.
he hasn't got any shamefull losses, and a few decent performances as well.
