Player of the 6 Nations Empty Player of the 6 Nations

Post by GunsGerms Wed 13 Mar 2013, 3:18 pm

Who is it going to be? For me the standout players from each team so far are:

Lee Halfpenny
Chris Robshaw
Luis Orquera
Wesley Fofana
Stuart Hogg
Rory Best

For me Dan Cole came very close to being England's star man and will probably be shortlisted too.

I think the most improved player and arguably the best 10 so far in the tournament has been Orquera. So he gets my vote. From Rabo reject to 6N star. Some turnaround.

...or maybe Louis Picamoles?

Would be more inclined to:

Halfpenny
Robshaw
Parisse
Picamoles
Hogg
SOB

I'd have to say Picamoles has been a class apart in the majority of the games this season.

He has France's best ball carrier, tackler and has been a monster at the breakdown, an even more complete backrow than Bonnaire, Harinordoqy or Dusatoire.

I agree with Picamoles. Consistently excellent.

Ian Evans would be my second choice. He's quietly been very effective throughout the tournament, despite not really being fit at the outset. He was excellent at Murrayfield.

I think you mean Rabo reject to 6N star to 6N bad joke, to 6N nobody, to 6N star. He has been sublime and pathetic in equal measure IMHO.

Robshaw has to be up there, Brown has been very good (my MOTM last week) Laidlaw has been very good as has Cole and Jones. Parisse would be without the suspension, and Picamoles has actually been very good in a poor playing pack!!

I'd plump for Robshaw so far though, consistently good in a winning team.
1/2p will get a lot of plaudits but I don't like choosing backs who offer little in attack.

My nearly men would be Brown, Jones, Picamoles, Laidlaw and Phillips ( I know I know, but he is probably Wales most important player right now)

I can't justify Picamoles being selected purely because everyone around him is playing so poorly, he's been good but not good enough.

There have been times when Parisse has single handedly dragged the Italians from the mud kicking and screaming.

If England win on Saturday it will be Robshaw. If Wales win it will probably be Halfpenny.

Sympathy vote will go to the show pony that is Parisse.

I would personally pick Picamoles - who has got over the gain line every time he has had the ball and been very consistent in a totally inconsistent French team. (Fofana - or should that be Forfuxsake - one try against a poor England defense does not make a player of the tournament).

Dan Cole? I thought he was nailed on for the Lions TH spot before the tounament began but his scrummaging has not been at the same high level it was last year.

Hogg for me is the player of the tournament so far.

It says something about the quality of the tournament, and is a damning indictment of the rest of the French team that Picamoles seems (justifiably) to be the majority choice here despite being on a side that could well finish with the wooden spoon.

I suspect the award will go to either Robshaw or 1/2p, depending who wins the England v Wales game on Saturday. Neither are hugely flashy but both simply get on with doing their jobs very effectively.

Am I right in thinking 1/2p has still not missed a tackle?

He needs to be up there to be honest

Stuart Hogg, sorry, but he only dazzeled us in the Italy game. Other than that he has not had the ball to actually work anything!

The other player would be Piccachu, I mean Piccamoles.

I thought Hogg had a very poor game vs Wales.

As bluesmancometh says Oquera has been very much hit and miss.

I'd agree with Robshaw being the top performer so far IMO.

GunsGerms I thought Best was poor vs Scotland. Couldn't hit a barndoor with his lineout throwing.

Fofana has been anonymous in the first two matches because we was shunted onto the wing.

Best from each side so far in my opinion.

England:Robshaw
Ireland:N/A - struggling to think of someone to be honest
Wales:Halfpenny
Scotland:Brown
Italy:Parisse
France:Picamoles

Consitently good have been:

England: Robshaw, Parling
Wales: 1/2p and R. Jones
Ireland: Healy? Best?
Scotland: Beattie?
Italy: Parisse
France: Picamoles, Huget

I'd give it to Picamoles, who at times has looked like the only French forward who gives a damn!

I liked :
Halfpenny
Robshaw/Parling
Zanni/Parisse
Picamoles
Stuart Hogg
SOB

as for Picamoles stats he's apparently the player that made more metres with ball in hand (302m) and beat the most defenders (14).

I think Best has been really poor this tournament I feel by his very high standards and Healy tactically nullified. In Leinster blue he stands wider and runs at backs whom he is stronger than or at forwards who he faster than. Very effective.

In the green of Ireland Healy has been used in the coal face too much.

Hamilton won a man of the match award last week (2 weeks ago?) didn't he?
He has looked pretty good to me.

I would say that Parisse and Launchbury have been outstandingly good, Zanni too.

Its tough to single out one player from so many hard games. Nothing has been easy. Some, France, have made things harder for themselves.

But Leigh Halfpenny has been a class above all else. What a player, points scorer and defender.

Standout players per nation for me are;
Wales: Halfpenny, A.Jones, Jenkins, R.Jones, Evans.
England: Farrell, Youngs, Twelvetrees, T.Youngs, Launchbury, Parling, Wood, Robshaw.
Italy: Zanni, Parrisse, Orquera.
France: Picamoles, Domingo, Mas.
Ireland: O'Brien, Marshall.
Scotland: Hogg, Laidlaw, Beattie.

Surprsing to see Ireland and France so low. This reflects the form of the teams for me. From that list I would pick Halfpenny, surely he will get it if Wales win on Saturday. Alternatively, I would select an Italian player, any of the three.

Picamoles has been outstanding in every game, crashing through the gain line, beating defenders, making his tackles and scoring turnovers.

It's just a shame the rest of his team have been beans vomit

Didnt think he was great v Italy. Couple of good runs and nice try but apart from that he looked quite sluggish compared to how he usually plays.

All of these guys have had 1 decent game, and a 2nd at best.
