Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
First topic message reminder :
rugbychallengegame.com/
Looks to be an improvement on the previous with a lot of the issues sorted but some small niggles will inevitably remain.
Hopefully this one will better represent the NH teams. Lions edition promises to be a treat.
Anyone else excited?

Pretty fair, but some obscure squad players seem to have random stats, and the positions are not always right.
Funniest on is Scott Williams has changed ethnicity, aged by 10 years and adjust his position slightly.

The player ratings are pretty bad I think - unless they are a Kiwi or Aus player they are really crap players! There's quite a lot of inconsistency in the Lions - some very good players but some that have terrible stats.
Even basic things like which foot they kick with - more often than not they are wrong.

The one that annoys me the most is fitness - a lot of Internationalists are doing as having very low fitness, which is completely wrong!

Yeah but you wouldn't think it would be beyond their resources to get 6N players correct, and at the very least the Lions squad since this is the 'Lions Special Edition'!

What the B&I Lions with Sean Maitland down as a New Zealander and Toby Faletau down as Tongan?

It was also slightly awkward seeing Hartley in the Lions squad and Quade Cooper starting at 10 for Australia....!

The game for me is a egg on the face of rugby, so many glitchs and the breakdown is a total joke.
There is a 7s feel to it in the sense that its anyones ball from the ruck.

To be fair rugby is such a difficult sport it is very hard to make it realistic - this is by far and away the best rugby game I've played, and it still has a lot wrong with it.
Good fun though - and that's what playing computer games is all about!

I thought RWC11 was set out better in the way teams played with backs moves etc

Was that not automated though? As in you push a button and they do an entire back line move without you having to do anything?

Also if you, for aguement sake went to a fly half in the pocket and then decided to change the play, you had to wait before everyone was in position before being bale to get the ball out?

The first Rugby Challenge was the first rugby game I'd played since John Lomu rugby in 1995!

My problem is I just feel tat if EA Sports were to put the time in and use the kind of engines they use for Madden NFL they could make a really awesome game and the players would probably be a lot better researched too, until someone shows them its worth their while it wont happen.

You need some degree of automation in a back move as you cant control all the back line at the same time. What RWC 11 lacked was the number of set play options, as you had only a choice of 4 of which 1 always had to be 'pocket' so you could clear the ball or kick drop goals. But the moves in general were far too simplistic and easily spoiled by the defender in about 95% of situations(But thats probably quite accurate)
I played the rugby challenge game that was released about 2 years ago but tbh I got bored of it pretty quickly. RWC 11 despite its many shortcomings is a more entertaining game in my opinion.

Re: Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
I wouldn't hold out much hope for EA. They only improve a sports title if a rival is outselling them. Otherwise they just release the same game every year. And with rugby they don't even bother. They haven't published one since 2007. They weren't interested in HB studios RWC 11. Which was cr@p anyway.
Hopefully this rugby challenge will be released every couple of years and will improve with each new release. Then we might end up with a half decent rugby game by the time Ireland get to a RWC semi final.

Really you need a superstar to get rugby on the map with these guys someone every household knows the likes of your beckhams unfortunately rugby doesn't have any of those guys. Sure guys are famous but there aren't really any where you could walk into a non rugby household outside their country and they would know them like people would with beckham

Foden tried the bang a pop star route and got nowhere. We need Henson, or Cipriani to become rugby players again and then there are our two Beckhams.

Re: Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
still only famous in the uk really those guys and a fair few none rugby fans wouldn't know cips. My point was that if we had someone as well known around the world as beckham then it could be said to the likes of EA that teir is potential there for games as it is we really have quite a limited market, Wilkisnon was probably the closest we got.

Re: Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
Wilkinson is the closest we got to a global rugby star? I guess that's why they call it Jonah Lomu rugby Challenge, a decade after he retired, while Jonny is still playing.
We need another like Lomu. Non rugby people simply don't appreciate the specialist skills of a lock or a flanker or even a flyhalf. Everyone can appreciate a big feicer putting lads on their arses.

Re: Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
To be fair feckless Lomu was a huge star and you may be right but the game was made by mostly new zealanders. We need a guy who is good on the field and who is the man off the field. Beckham was a good footballer, even a great footballer but he wasn't the very best footballer, yet he is far better known in USA and worldwide than say Zidaine, Figo etc
Re: Jonah Lomu rugby 2 announced
It's a pity they didnt keep going with the Pro Rugby Manager series, basically the Football Manager version of rugby and it was fantastic!
