Miami Match Thread (Murray wins!)
First topic message reminder :
After watching Rafael Nadal complete a triumphant hardcourt transition at Indian Wells and break his own record for Masters titles won, the tour rumbles on and circles the wagons at Key Biscayne, Miami. The Miami Masters has been held here since 1987, after originally setting up at none other than Delray Beach in 1985. The cream generally seems to rise to the top at Miami, and by far the most prolific winner of the tournament is Andre Agassi, who notched up an amazing six titles over the course of his career. Amongst currently active players who are present at the 2013 tournament, only Djokovic, Murray and Davydenko have lifted the title previously - though Berdych was a finalist in 2010. Although Federer and Nadal are missing, the vast majority of the tour seems to have turned up, and hopefully we'll have an interesting tournament this year.
Prize: $719,160 (purse of $5,185,625), which marks an increase from last year. And of course, 1000 precious ranking points are on offer to the winner.
Defending champion is Novak Djokovic, who defeated Andy Murray in straight sets in 2012. He also won the 2011 tournament, and is therefore going for a hat-trick of wins.
Click for an updated draw on the ATP website.
Morning sessions typically begin at 11:00 local time, and evening sessions around 20:00.

I watched it too. At MP down Berdych served a 2nd serve ace that was on the outside of the middle service line...he was an inch from going out. Such amazing margins this game is played to. After that he played better but you have to also hand it to Falla for a great match - he can play some seriously good tennis at times. But Berdych is definitely mentally stronger these days...he would not have won that match 12 months ago.

Nishikori getting rolled by ferrer, he just can't hit through ferrer and isn't consistent enough yet to out grind him.

Re: Miami Match Thread (Murray wins!)
Albert Ramos is a double break up again Jurgen Melzer in one of the most unlikely fourth round matches you could ask for.
Ramos and Melzer are the lowest ranked, and only unseeded players left in the tournament. Ramos, who started the tournament ranked #62 is up roughly 9 places for the week right now, and he'll gain another ~7 places if he makes the quarter finals.
Melzer surprising only up about 2 places from his efforts so far.

DF to give SP for Ferrer. Should have challenged that one. Another SP. Come Ferrer. 7+ minutes for that game. Gets the set.

Nishikori can push it to the third set though and wait for the lottery.

Is this the second coming of everyone's favourite Austrian tennis player? Daveed is next for him though which is a very tough ask, but not impossible.

I didn't realise Robbo was playing doubles in Miami. She and Lisa Raymond are into the semis.

Almagro takes the first set, two breaks a piece so far. But Almagro's doing pretty well at fending off BPs, better than you might expect (6/8). Tight match, lots of opportunities for both.

Re: Miami Match Thread (Murray wins!)
Jurgen Melzer played (and won?) a Challenger last week in Dallas, a challenger that is probably one of the best attended by top stars as it falls between IW and Miami. Winning can be a habit though and it makes you wonder if players of a certain level, should drop down and try and get a bit of practice rather than a multitude of early exits.

Very true LK, it's not like he can say he is not used to the court.
Tsonga or Cilic next.

Re: Miami Match Thread (Murray wins!)
Good win for Sir Andrew. Easy pickings in the next round too I hope. How will Cilic bounce back after choke of the century (in men's tennis)?
(Choke of the century has to go to Cibulkova who was 6-1 5-2 up against Azarenka in Miami last year and lost).

My favourite choke must be Novotna against Chanda Rubin. Novotna was leading 5-0 40-0*. She lost.

It was one set all, so that was in the deciding set. Remember watching that match. Great drama.
