Favourite Foreign Language Films
First topic message reminder :
Not sure if this has been done before and am far too lazy to actually scroll down the screen and look for myself but on the off chance it has not been done before thought I would ask people for their favourite foreign language films (before some smart arse says Die Hard because it is American or some such) My top five to get the ball rolling off the top of my head are:
1 City of God
2 La Haine
3 Oldboy
4 The Seven Samurai
5 Mesrine (Part 1)

Re: Favourite Foreign Language Films
Have to agree with Stella, 'Life Is Beautiful' (La vita è bella) is absolutely brilliant. Bit of a tearjerker mind. One of the best films I have seen.
Also a very good Scandy film whcih I don't think has been mentioned so far called 'Let the Right One In' (Låt den rätte komma in).
French TV series The Returned also very good.

Well; The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version) was on last night. I enjoyed it. Haven't seen the English version, I'd imagine it was not as good like every other remake of a classic foreign film.

Re: Favourite Foreign Language Films
Sweden has had a successful little run of good popular entertainment films in the last few years.
Let The Right One In was an excellent film that was successfully copied in the US as Let Me In (Starred Kody Smit-McPhee and Chloe Grace-Moretz). I must admit, I preferred the Swedish version, even with subtitles. It was just that little bit more atmospheric. Kare Hedebrandt and Lena Leandersson just seemed to have a little more 'chemistry' together in my opinion.
The Millenium Trilogy films were also highly entertaining adaptations of Stieg Larsson's books. The English language version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was a good vehicle for Daniel Craig and I understand that English language versions of The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest are currently in production.
They should be good.
