"Boxing is Dead" - Chisora
First topic message reminder :
Boxing is dead according to Derek Chisora, the heavyweight famous for his brawl with David Haye. Chisora thinks the sport needs characters like himself to bring interest and states he would like to fight Price in Liverpool.
What are opinions? I think Price would knock Chisora out based on what I have seen so far but I think it would be a very interesting match up.
Full article:
Dereck Chisora says that boxing is "dead" and personalities like his will get the sport greater attention.
Earlier in March, the 29-year-old was given a British Boxing Board of Control licence, a year after he had it removed following a brawl with David Haye.
But the heavyweight maintains he has no concerns about negative perceptions of him in the sport.
Boxing is dead and you need people like me to bring it back up," Chisora told 5 live Boxing.
"Someone has to take the bad role and as long as people are tuning in and watching the sport that I love, I don't mind."
Chisora was banned by the World Boxing Council after the fracas with Haye but his subsequent fight against his fellow Briton, which Chisora lost in the fifth round, was sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.
The Londonder, who has undertaken anger management classes, is set to fight Ondrej Pala on 20 April and is targeting a fight with David Price later this year.
He added: "I don't mind going to Liverpool in the summer time for a big fight against David Price. I did take [anger classes] but I've kind of stopped now. We'll see one day if it's worked."

Of course if you catch someone with a "dodgy one" (and don't let them get up) then yes, first punch wins.
Well it should.....

Imperial Ghosty is right on this one. In a street fight if you throw the first punch and connect then you will 90% of the time win the fight.
In an unplanned scuffle the cowards cheap shot (my preferred tactic) tends to settle things swiftly, especially against a numpty (but not all the time...see link above).
Growing up if you caught someone, especially someone with a reputation as a fighter, with a "dodgy one" (and left it there) then they'd be at your door the next day for a "fair one". If they weren't at your door, then somehow, an organised street fight would ensue and then best man won.

No you're just splitting hairs & not for the first time! Street fights, bar fights, fights in the playground normally have something to trigger it or some kind of build up first, then a punch or a kick is thrown or maybe a shove & then it kicks off. Are you trying to suggest that all fights outside of a controlled enviroment without rules begin & end in one punch? So many of these kinds of fights do end up on the ground so if somebody has experience in wrestling or BJJ for example, can keep a cool head in the situation & is confident they would stand a good chance against an untrained person although its not a given.

Well now you are changing the circumstances. I am talking about a fight against a guy you don't know who doesn't know where you live. There is nothing cheap about hitting a guy who you perceive as a threat.

I'm not a street fighter. I'm someone who can punch. I'd definitely throw a sly dig at a trained MMA fighter.I'd knock them down and make sure they're not getting up for a 1 minute....... and then run away.
I just don't fancy my chances in a fair fight.

Do most streetfights not end in headlocks anymore?

Lol
In fairness, plenty do, which is kind of the point.
I worked for 4 years in Southampton as a doorman and I couldn't box (or even punch particularly well) but I was successful because I could wrestle. In the majority of circumstances that's what it comes down to.

You keep telling yourself, pal.
Was it your height and enormous bulk that enabled you to wrassle so well?

As long as they don't know where you live, punch them without warning.
Hahaha! I love it. I can't disagree with your logic.

Haha exactly. No point in telling the guy you want a fight with honour and then the guy smashes your front teeth out. Hit him before the fight starts when he is not expecting it and then get out of there.
