Tennis & the "Power 100"
Here's an article assessing the top 100 sports stars in terms of influence/power:
http://www.bsports.com/powertop100
Its discussed further here from tennis viewpoint:
http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/03/federer-djokovic-serena-shoot-power-100-athletes-list/46839/#.UUrvZZBFBhE
Ranking methodology ( http://www.bsports.com/power100methodology )
1. On-field attributes = 50% based on ranking and viewing figures
2. Off-field attributes = 50% based on:
So, does this mean Djokovic is more popular (in the US) than we thought?
Nadal has slipped down the list, Federer still riding high.
Tennis accounts for 11% of the list - pretty good!

11% is not bad at all
Glad to see Djokovic so high up. No doubt Nadal will be back up there soon especially if he wins RG again.
I'm surprised Tiger Woods is still so high up especially given some of the criteria.

Yep although apparently Tiger is returning to #1?
I guess Nadal's ranking and quieter media presence in 2012 reduced his score.
Maybe the American's love all that shirt-ripping stuff

They may need to rethink their criteria

No Ronaldo or Messi - the two elite sportsman in the worlds number 1 sport. Interesting. In fact, Beckham and Henry the only 2 footballers, and despite both being way past their peak....

Good to see Novak so high.
It's a great balance to all those claims that Roger and Rafa's popularity and marketability comes from some kind of inherent charisma as individuals. It was always based on their huge success as tennis players.
Novak has a couple of years as the dominant player and, lo and behold, he's suddenly very marketable and, seemingly, increasingly popular in the US.

Ronaldo and Messi are both quite bizarre omissions, as highlighted by Danny.
I think any list that manages to exclude these two is of dubious overall merit in terms of global perspective.....

Ye, I mean like or loath eithe rof those guys, the 3 billion active and passive footie fans would probably rank them in the top 5 and I doubt that their commercial interests are dwarfed by any of the guys on the list. And both a pretty squeeky clean, unlike say Tiger....
And do not get me wrong, I really do not care who Tiger was ridin', and it hasn't earned any extra dislike from me as the only person with the right to judge the man is his ex-wife (friends and family too) but that crap counts in the States, and the only way to counter it is to create new news, ie start winning again, which Tiger has.

@Debaters1... Tiger is dating Lindsey Vonn. I hope he has learnt from his past. She might just rip him apart with a ski pole if he goes off of the slope a bit.
