Alvarado vs Rios 2
Guys,
Could someone please tell me what channel this is on in the UK?
Surely we have picked it up with it being a contender for FOTY in 2012??
Any help would be appreciated as its not appearing on Sky Sports, ESPN, Channel 5, Boxnation (not bothered), Primetime, Wealth TV etc etc!!
Help??

It's not and its a shame, the first fight wasn't picked up either
The results may not be alot different but its going to be guaranteed excitement while it lasts
BoxNation didn't announce Braldey-Provodnikov untill late so here's hoping
Its a bit bizarre as they haven't picked up the Golovkin card either or have a domestic card so BN are literally showing no boxing this weekend

£10 a month well spent Frank Warren!
A world title fight with a hard punching machine in Golovkin and a tear up between Rios and Alvarado?!
I know Sky are picking up a couple of decent fights, but nothing on this scale!
For a supposed "boxing channel" to not pick up any just shows its current state of affairs if feel!

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
to be honest I dont think it will be as good as the first fight.
Can see Alvarado on his bike trying to nick a decision. And theres no reason why he can't do it as he showed he was the better boxer of the 2 in the 1st fight.
My prediction is, IF Alvarado DOES box smart, he will get shafted on the cards, Rios will verbally attack Dan Rafael etc for being fat journalists who know nothing about boxing as they have never fought, blah blah blah.

Result, its may not be as good as the first as Alvarado will want to box more but they are better going forward and its in their nature so I doubt that it won't be a barnstormer
Hopefully they can get the GGG card as its on before this fight as its in Monaco
Good move from boxnation, waiting for Donaire-Rigo and Trout-Canelo now

Loved the first fight and this one could be just as good. Alvarado will try and box more but he tried and failed last time. Rios just drags you into a War.
This is worth staying up for.

They have "World Title Boxing" on the sky schedule but no information so I would suggest this would be the GGG fight?

Sky showed GGG before didn't they?

Yea thats him. Sky showed that fight so maybe they are going to follow Golovkin's fights a bit.
Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
Proska is a matchroom fighter hence why they picked it up
BoxNation picked up GGG against Rosado, fuchigami and Simon
I saw the world title boxing from 7-11pm and given Monaco is probably only an hour difference it doesn't seem impossible to think that is the GGG card but you would have thought that it would have been on the website

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
As much as I like Mike Alvarado, he's gonna get KO's by Bam Bam Rios again.
Alvarado doesn't have fitness to avoid Rios for 12 rounds.
Eventually Rios will tag Alvarado and its lights out.
As the first fight showed, Alvarado's best shots didn't hurt Rios. But every time Rios landed his power shots, Alvarado was hurt.
I've got Bam Bam to win by KO inside 5 rounds.

Think Alvarado might just be a little more durable than just lasting 5 rounds to be honest Gerry.
Have a feeling he'll put in a stronger performance than last time to be honest. At the same time, Rios might be even bigger having fought at that weight class, so you never know.

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
If Alvarado can get to Rios' body early than it can get interesting as Rios struggled with Mile's work rate and looked fatigued untill he rocked him in the 6th whe he got a second wind
If he can't hurt rios early (head or body) than you can see them going at it untill Alvarado's chin is finally cracked like the first fight
Don't think it'll end quickly and its not a certainty rios wins as Alvarado had him buzze da couple times and was easily winning on the cards and rios has been hurt before by Acosta, Antillon and Ortega

If Alvarado sticks behind the jab (In which he has quite a good one) and doesn't get involved in a close up brawl then he can take a desiscion here

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
I think Rios is going to win again, I recently watched the fight back and Rios started landing the over hand right at will after around the 5th round. Its still going to be a cracking scrap though.
I don't really think Alvarado did anything wrong in the last fight he just got caught with a peach of a right hand. I think Rios will land that punch again.

Btw has anyone seen the pre-fight pictures of rios, he is looking horribly gaunt just like he did at 135. If he hasn't cut the weight off well than he may not have the gas to stand up to the kind of punishment he withstood in the first fight
Weigh in should be soon so it'll be interesting to see how he looks

Quite a good breakdown from boxingscene about this fight.
This is definately a fight I'm looking forward to, Rios is always exciting to watch. If Matthyse beats Peterson I'd like to see Rios and Matthyse fight, too big power punchers so it'd make for explosive action.

This era is lucky to have Brandon Rios. Brandon Rios is unlucky to fight in this era.
A month shy of 27, Rios fought only twice last year and may settle at that total again this year. For a fighter with his style, the window to make his mark is narrower in terms of time. There is only so much of it to see him against as many of the top lights of his day as possible while he can bring the A-game he possesses now.
But, hey, we get two in a row with Alvarado. It’s a hell of a bird in the hand.
Let’s go to the report cards.
The Ledgers
Brandon Rios
Age: 26
Titles/Previous Titles: WBA Lightweight (2012, 1 Defense)
Height: 5’8
Weight: 140 lbs.
Hails from: Oxnard, California
Record: 31-0-1, 23 KO
Rankings: #4 (BoxRec, SecondsOut); #5 (Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, BoxingScene) #6 (ESPN, Ring)
Current/Former World Champions/Titlists Faced: 2 (Miguel Acosta TKO10; Richar Abril SD12)
Vs.
Mike Alvarado
Age: 32
Titles/Previous Titles: None
Height: 5’9
Weight: 140
Hails from: Denver, Colorado
Record: 33-1, 23 KO, 1 KOBY
Rankings: #7 (SecondsOut, ESPN); #8 (TBRB, BoxingScene, Ring); #9 (BoxRec)
Current/Former World Champions/Titlists Faced: 2 (Cesar Bazan KO4; Brandon Rios TKO7)
Grades
Pre-Fight: Speed – Rios B; Alvarado B
Pre-Fight: Power – Rios A; Alvarado B+
Pre-Fight: Defense – Rios C; Alvarado B-
Pre-Fight: Intangibles – Rios A; Alvarado A
Anyone reading here probably saw the first fight. Why would anyone expect much different this time? Mike Alvarado knows he needs to box more. Rios has the advantage inside. The problem is that Alvarado, even boxing well, will be hit.
And when he gets hit, he fights. Rios hits hard and makes it impossible not to send the mind searching for instinct. That both of these guys resort to instinct is why the sequel is almost as anticipated as the original. Chances are, we saw the best version of this one last time.
There are some who feel it may have been stopped a smidge early. If they were right, it could play out here. Alvarado was in stark trouble when the first fight was waved off, but as many have pointed out he wasn’t in the same trouble Timothy Bradley appeared to be in multiple times two weeks ago versus Ruslan Provodnikov. This time, the sentiment lingering from the first fight could buy extra time in a pinch.
That might set the stage for the sort of escalation the first fight was building towards. Very few fights have the sort of crescendo a Corrales-Castillo or Gatti-Ward do. Rios-Alvarado I almost got there last time. It’s not impossible it could happen this time around. Fight fans can recall, in recent vintage, the turnaround of fortunes in the first Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez from first to second fights as a point of hope.
Typically though, rematches of brutal brawls go the same way the second time and often shorter. Alvarado is 32 and makes for rugged fights regularly. He picked up a lot of miles the first time around and didn’t get any younger.
The stakes are certainly high, but if we get another good fight the loser may not be punished too harshly. The winner could be in line for Bradley, Manny Pacquiao, or Juan Manuel Marquez depending on how things go. The loser may end up with one of them too, or Provodnikov. While this fight is at 140 lbs., chances are both men will be Welterweights sooner than later. Almost all of the Jr. Welterweight division is controlled by Golden Boy Promotions.
Rios and Alvarado are with Top Rank. Their fortunes will be made at 147 lbs. after this Saturday.
The Pick
Rios is going to win again. It might happen faster this time, and for the same reasons present in the first. Rios is the more natural, fluid fighter. Both get hit too much, but Rios has that rare knack for being able to take two and give one until the count turns to his favor, wearing down other men through blunt force. He won't last forever that way, but while his prime endures he'll be a handful for anyone and too much for "Mile High" Mike.” The pick is Rios by stoppage; let’s say six again.

Rios has a good chin on him but Alvarado definately got to him in the first fight despite Rios' constant aggression. He snapped brandons head enough and made his legs go stiff enough to suggest that he has the ability to get Brandon
Acosta hurt him bad in the 3rd or 4th of their fight and Antillon buzzed him at the end of the second round so its not like he's invincible
If he keeps absorbing these types if shots it only needs one huge shot to catch him right for his punch resistance to finally cave in

Totally agree. I think Rios will have a very short prime due to the shots he eats and his aggresive warrior style. But I don't think it will be tonight.

That's not going to be the mindset of Rios though is it and sometimes it takes a good few years for a chin to finally crack, it sometimes happens overnight but the more durable stay durable for longer.

Rios' conditioning coach has said Bam Bam is in the best shape of his career heading into this fight.
Alvarado's fitness isn't as good as Rios'.
If the fight goes passed 8 rounds, then Bam Bam will bring the house down and get the KO.
I still maintain that Rios will batter Alvarado and win inside 5.
If Alvarado had the power of Matthysse or Maidana, then he might knock Rios down, but he doesn't. Rios will get that right hand eventually to land on Mike's chin.

amazing fight for the 10 rounds that my skybox recorded it for.
I had it closer than the commentators did and looking at the results, I was right. The commentators were scoring it a virtual shutout to Alvarado

Same as you Adam my box only recorded 10 rounds, but what a 10 rounds it was. Really couldn't take your eyes off it. Both guys hurt at different points, I didn't think Rios had the same power in his punches the longer the fight went on.
