DeGale vs Cleverly called off!!!!
James DeGale and Nathen Cleverly's sparring sessions had to stop because they were comming far too competive. Both of them were using the sparing sessions for preparation for their big fights comming up, against Groves and Braehmer respectively.
Cleverly said, it was the hardest sparing sesession he has had, and he has sparred with cruiserweight world champ Enzo Maccarinelli and super middle weight great Joe Calzaghe.
Degale said that Cleverly never stops throwing punches and expects his fight against Groves not to be as tough.
They were meant to put on quite a show in sparring very competative with McDonnel, DeGales trainer saying it he would have gladly paid to watch it and it was better than some world title fights.
What other great sparing match ups have their been?
And what do you make of the Cleverly's comments about DeGale, could he surpass the great JC?

Dempsey and Greb went at it with such venom and purpose during their sessions that Greb was lined up to challenge for Dempsey's heavyweight title, though the fight never materialized.

Greb did some real damage to Dempsey, didn't split his tongue or lip quite badly. Tunney was picking Greb to beat Dempsey as well.

Yes, I believe he did, D4. I have a newspaper print out somewhere which describes it all in detail, ( it's probably at the Greb website, too, ) and it was certainly lively.

Re: DeGale vs Cleverly called off!!!!
It's a good idea for them to spar, Cleverley is big and a division above but punches like a SMW or MW so good for Degale who spars against an active boxer with high output but not tremendous power so not likely to get clipped too hard leading up to a big fight.

Yes back when Haye was a cruiser and Haye schooled Audley even back then.
Haye also sparred with Froch.

Naseem Hamed sparred with Herol Graham when he was only 8 years old.
Graham said it was one of the toughest sparring sessions he ever had.
True story.

Re: DeGale vs Cleverly called off!!!!
Didn't Leonard actually do private behind closed doors "sparring" sessions that were mimicking a proper fight in order to get his sharpness back after one of his layoffs? Can't remember which one though.
No headgear, proper gloves, round breaks etc etc etc

Re: DeGale vs Cleverly called off!!!!
Been lucky enough to view a few gym wars between professionals for free in my time, certainly won't have done either fighter any harm and shows how serious they are both taking their upcoming bouts. When i first seen the article i thought it said Groves Degale was off. Phew. I have yet to view Morales Valero sparring but have seen a Valero documentry on youtube thats all about his sparring sessions, and in the end had only 3 folk left to spar with he was so vicious, can't remember their names just now without checking the doc out again.

I rememner watching some tasty footage on YouTube of Benn/Duran sparring for a few rounds. Duran looked a little beefy in it.

Cheers Scott, only learned they had sparred recently, going to dig it out and have a look, he was an animal in that other doc, i presume he will show Morales a bit more respect.

Morales vs Valero is a good fight.
Remember that one, after watching Valero against the Santa Cruz brothers, and the style and defence they had, it was only a matter of time for Antillon as he kept coming forward without throwing much, i'll see if i can find that documentry about his sparring sessions.

Thank you sir
Will have a look.
I thought Morales actually edged it against Valero, punches straight down the middle seem to cause Valero problems. Morales put some nice combos together and moved around better for me.
